Raising magical girls, and leave them with eternal regret?!

Chapter 97 - First stop for memory recovery

After some time had passed—after observing YouYu, WuYue, and Bai Yu for an extended period—Liu Meng finally made her decision about helping YouYu.

Starting today—Monday, the fifth week since finding him—she resolved to help him recover his memories.

After all, during her observations, she’d determined that the situation with him and those two magical girls could no longer be delayed.

No matter how much she tried to deceive herself, she’d ultimately have to face reality, just as YouYu had said.

Thus, today, using her hard-earned work privileges, she easily took a day off…

Her purpose: to take YouYu outside.

“Today seems like a good opportunity.”

Standing before YouYu’s room, Liu Meng lowered her head in thought, then raised it, reaching out to knock lightly on the door.

Knock, knock, knock—

“…”

“Again, huh…”

After knocking for a while without getting a response, Liu Meng smiled wryly and pressed down the doorknob. She pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Once in the room, she flicked on the light switch and was met with the sight of YouYu curled up in a ball under his blanket on the bed.

Seeing him like this, Liu Meng leaned against the doorframe, crossed her arms, and spoke with a hint of exasperation:

“You’re at it again, YouYu. Didn’t I tell you last night to go to bed early? And yet here you are, still lazing around this morning?”

“Mm… but sleeping is an excellent way to ease negative emotions. Isn’t that what you taught me, Liu Meng?”

After a moment, YouYu’s muffled voice emerged from under the covers.

“I did say that, but not to the extent you’re taking it. Even though you’re no longer an ordinary human, you still need to maintain a proper daily routine.”

“You’re getting more and more peculiar. Did you really transform into a Negative Beast before? You don’t seem threatening at all. Lately, you’ve been sleeping in more and more.”

Liu Meng shook her head as she chuckled.

Seeing that YouYu remained bundled in bed, she chose not to forcibly pull the blanket away. Instead, she turned to leave, glancing back to add:

“Sleep a bit longer if you must, but get up soon, YouYu. I’ve already prepared breakfast, and there’s plenty of it. If it gets cold because of you, you’ll have to deal with the consequences yourself.”

“Also, I’ve set up water for your face washing and other morning routines.”

“Finish up quickly and come join me for breakfast. We’ve got things to discuss today.”

With that, Liu Meng turned off the light, gently shut the door, and went off to tend to other tasks.

“…”

After she left, YouYu eventually got out of bed, stretching as he stood.

In his mind, he addressed Mamba, the entity residing within him:

“So… you’re saying that today, you sensed the presence of another colleague of yours—‘Gray Shadow.’ Is that right?”

“Yes, but for now, Gray Shadow hasn’t made any moves. I’m not sure what they’re planning.”

“Still, I’d advise you to prepare for unexpected situations. If they attack you or the magical girls, your plans could be disrupted.”

“Understood.”

After responding to Mamba, YouYu dressed and stepped out of the room to begin his morning routine.

It seemed his actions had drawn the attention of the Evil Cadres. Now, they’d even sent a new Cadre to deal with him.

Fortunately, Mamba’s memory was gradually recovering. With enough information about Gray Shadow, they should pose no significant threat.

For now, he only needed to focus on what he had to do.

With these thoughts concluded, YouYu finished washing up and made his way to the dining table where Liu Meng was waiting.

As promised, the table was laden with various dishes—or were they breakfast items?

The spread reminded YouYu of the morning tea back in his hometown, leaving him momentarily uncertain.

“Have a seat, YouYu. I’ll explain everything.”

Seeing his puzzled expression, Liu Meng gestured for him to sit down.

After he took his seat, she began:

“I’ve taken the day off today. As we discussed, I’m going to help you recover your memories. So, I’ve scheduled this for today.”

“Over the past weeks, I’ve made some initial assessments based on observing you and the others. Today, I want to take you to a few places to see if they spark any memories.”

“As for direct interaction with them… I’m still considering it.”

“I see… thank you, Liu Meng.”

“But shouldn’t we leave earlier? Did you really need to prepare so much food?”

“Well… I was worried that if recalling your memories triggered uncontrollable negative emotions, we’d need a buffer. So I thought about how to boost your positive emotions beforehand to mitigate that.”

After a moment of thought, Liu Meng explained. Then, realizing what she’d just admitted, her tone turned awkward:

“Uh… maybe I shouldn’t have said that out loud?”

“No problem. Let’s just finish eating and get going.”

“All right, then.”

Seeing YouYu’s lack of reaction, Liu Meng sighed and joined him at the table.

About ten minutes later, breakfast was completely finished—though most of it was eaten by YouYu alone.

But that was precisely what Liu Meng had intended.

“Let’s head out now. But remember, when we’re outside, don’t wander off, and don’t follow stangers…”

“…”

Listening to Liu Meng’s meticulous instructions, YouYu sighed with a helpless smile:

“Do you have to be this detailed? I’m not a kid, you know. You sound just like a nagging mom…”

“Wha—!”

Liu Meng froze for a moment before blushing with embarrassment.

“I-it’s just that my little sister used to love running around! So, without realizing it, I…”

“I see~”

Not wanting to tease her further, YouYu said:

“So, where are we heading, Liu Meng?”

Hearing him call her name, Liu Meng quickly composed herself, coughed lightly, and replied:

“Our first stop for memory recovery has been decided!”

She pulled out her phone, opened a map, and pointed to a marked location:

“We’re heading to Rainbow High School.”
