Chapter 320: Blackened Junior Sister (25)
Yue Ran gave the little demon beast a nod, complimenting him, saying, "Little guy, that is not a bad move."
The little demon beast instantly revealed a bright and contented expression on his adorable furry face. He walked towards the young woman with his four little short legs and then tugged at the hem of her red skirt, as though asking her to pick him up.
The little demon beast: Please pick me up, Mom! I am very obedient!
Yue Ran was quite content with watching the way the snow on top fell into the hidden valley with a natural grace—well, more like an avalanche made by the deafening roar of the little demon beast—so she stretched out her arms to lift him up from the ground.
"People always have to pay the price for being such busybodies, do they not?" Yue Ran spoke aloud, not directing the question to anyone in particular, as she stroked the chin of the little demon beast, rendering it to purr in comfort. His little white fluffy tail quickly coiled around her wrist with care, seemingly in an attempt to draw even closer to her.
Now that Yue Ran took a closer look at the little demon beast, solely for the reason that she was now in a good mood to do so and felt like it, she could see that he was full of fur—full of white fur, to be exact—with golden lines like that of a tiger on his tiny body. A pair of cute tiny wings were situated on his back with a pure golden color at its base that turned white and finally changed to ice blue the closer it got to its tips. Four golden horns protruded from his head, with two on each side. Two horns were smaller and rested underneath the larger ones. They all curved upwards and were symmetrical to one another. Two horns were smaller and rested underneath the larger ones. They all curved upwards and were symmetrical.
Just what kind of beast is this little guy? A golden white ice tiger with wings and horns? Is the little guy a kind of legendary beast of some sort? Sounds rather unlikely. But his features did look much more striking than his birth mother's normal-looking ones—normal-looking implying that she looked like an average tiger demon beast with no golden lines, horns, a pair of wings, and an ice blue crystal embedded on the head.
Were these additional physical characteristics due to the inheritance of the holy beast from the Exalted Sea Sect? For now, that seemed to be the most likely reason because the father of the little demon beast is a most conceivably a human, at least judging from the words of the mother of the little demon beast.
"My Lord, why do you not give him a name?" Hai Bing Tu made a suggestion on the side. "He will be overjoyed at getting one from you, my Lord."
"A name?" Yue Ran stood and mulled to herself. "What about..." Her words trailed off as she thought over the possible names in her head. "What about Lan Jin?"
"This name… why?" Hai Bing Tu asked.
"Lan for ice blue, and Jin for glimmering gold," Yue Ran answered without looking at Hai Bing Tu. Her eyes were only focused on the little demon beast in her arms.
"Uh, um… Le… La… Lan... Lan Ji... Lan Jin?" The little demon beast repeated the words Yue Ran uttered in a clumsy way.
The young woman appeared particularly pleased with the name she had come up with, so she nodded with a smile and raised a hand to scratch his nose, rendering the little demon beast, now named Lan Jin, feel a little itchy and subconsciously tremble twice. His cloud-white and fluffy fur softly rubbed against her skin in the process.
"All right, it is time for us to get going," Yue Ran spun around and said without a pause. "Our goal is to head to the Central Plains and see what news there is before we make any moves."
"The old site of the Exalted Sea Sect is situated at the foot of the Dream Vale Mountains on the edge of the Central Plains," Hai Bing Tu conveyed her thoughts. "My Lord, you may as well go and take a look."
The main reason Hai Bing Tu suggested this in the first place was because she wanted to visit the place that she had long left. Moreover, it would not be bad for Yue Ran to look around. There might be surprising discoveries (or not). Anyway, it is not a bad thing to see a new scenery.
"All right," Yue Ran responded, not disagreeing with the proposal Hai Bing Tu had put forth. "I hope that there are still some useful items left over there of which we can take for our own use."
The day gradually fell into the night in their journey out of the highlands.
…
The group of four followed the path out of the rift valley, but before they walked out of the White Jade Snow Mountain, their surrounding environment turned more and more severe.
It was as though the natural landscape in itself was attempting to force all the passersby, innocent or not, to remain in this forsaken place, dead or alive.
They did catch and came across numerous scattered skeletons on the road, belonging to both humans and beasts, which had long since frozen into ice.
Apart from the white snow and the endless mountains, there seemed to be nothing else in this world.
However, perhaps because it was far away from human habitation, the night sky on these lands looked incredibly clear and bright.
When dusk was approaching, the group of four found a cave. They proceeded to block the entrance with ice and snow to prevent the snowstorm from penetrating through the hole in their temporary living space.
After settling in, the group went about to do their own thing.
