Questism and Lookism: Am I Suhyeon Kim?

Chapter 17: King without a board

Change of scene: Gangbuk East School — Night

The flickering fluorescent light barely illuminated the empty classroom. The air smelled of cigarettes, dust, and tension. Sitting on a desk at the back of the room, with one leg crossed and a lit cigarette between his lips, was Jaeha Han, the number one student at East School.

His eyes, half-closed by the smoke, did not miss a single detail of those present.

In front of him, standing in a semicircle, were his officers:

Changung Yeom, the No. 2, leaning against the blackboard with his arms crossed. His expression was calm, almost bored, but his eyes showed sharp concentration.

Ryu Sikyung, the No. 3, more impulsive, walked in circles around a table, muttering ideas for a counterattack. It was clear that his knuckles were itching.

Dongtak Seo, the No. 4, sat on the edge of a chair, with a tablet lit up showing a tactical plan of the school. His fingers moved quickly, making notes.

And Seok Kang, No. 7, watched silently with a serious look, holding a notebook full of diagrams and notes of his own.

Jaeha took the cigarette from his lips and exhaled a thick cloud of smoke that mingled with the heavy air in the classroom.

"The West is going to make a move tonight," he said in a low voice, breaking the silence.

Sikyung stopped short.

"Are you sure?"

"It's most likely..." Jaeha replied coldly.

But before he could continue, the classroom door burst open. A subordinate burst in, pale, panting, his face filled with panic.

"Sunbae-nim! We're in big trouble! The West is attacking us... from all sides!"

"What did you say...? They're surrounding us?" asked Jaeha, frowning.

"Yes! They've deployed troops around the entire East Gangbuk! If this continues, our lines will fall and we'll lose territory!"

The officers fell silent for a second. Only the echo of the messenger's heavy breathing could be heard.

"Suhyeon... you... how did you get so many troops?" thought Jaeha, clenching his teeth.

"To surround the entire East, you need at least a hundred people. But what's most surprising... is that they're gaining ground. Those people aren't normal!"

Seok stepped forward, his face already hardened.

"Jaeha, we have to move. We can't just stand here watching."

"He's right, we should go fight the East—" Ryu began, but was interrupted by another knock on the door, this time more desperate.

A new subordinate burst in, shouting:

"Sir! It seems that some of our soldiers have betrayed us! They are suddenly attacking us for no reason!"

"What did you say?!" Jaeha roared, jumping to his feet.

"Those bastards...! How dare they betray us now?" he shouted, bringing both hands to his head and pulling at his hair. Then he covered his face... and when he lowered his hands, his expression had changed. It was a distorted, maniacal smile, a mixture of rage and excitement.

"Changung, you will go to the western front."

Changung nodded without saying a word.

"Ryu, take care of the north."

"Finally, something exciting," Ryu replied, shrugging his shoulders with a maniacal smile.

"Dongtak, cover the east rear. And you, Seok, control the south. Don't let them advance any further."

Jaeha looked at everyone one by one, with that same twisted smile.

"Get ready. This isn't just any school fight. This is a fucking war."

Scene change: Streets of East Gangbuk — Night

The streets of East Gangbuk were a battlefield: screams, insults and blows echoed on every corner, mingling with the metallic sound of chains, broken glass and the crunching of bones. Chaos reigned.

In the midst of it all, Suhyeon Kim walked slowly.

In front of him floated a circular, transparent, blue hologram projected by his card. In the centre of the image was Jaeha Han, the number one in the East, still inside the classroom, giving orders with a cigarette in his mouth.

Suhyeon smiled calmly, his face illuminated by the dim light of the hologram.

"Jaeha... I have you in the palm of my hand," he murmured.

You can observe anyone you have seen before just by thinking about it, through a circular hologram.

The hologram slowly faded away in front of Suhyeon, leaving only the blue glow dissipating into the darkness. The smile on his face did not fade. In fact, he seemed even more confident than before.

He reached into the inner pocket of his black jacket and pulled out his cell phone. He unlocked it without haste, as if he were sending any old message, while hell broke loose around him.

His fingers moved quickly. He was sending concise orders to several of his executives.

Each message was less than five words long. Everyone already knew what to do.

No one questioned Suhyeon.

But the most important thing... was that no one knew how the hell he got that information.

Suhyeon closed his cell phone with a click, just as a scream was heard behind him.

"THERE HE IS! IT'S SUHYEON KIM!"

An Eastern boy, with a steel bar in his hand, ran toward him with fury in his eyes. He was coming straight at him, aiming for his head.

Suhyeon didn't turn around. He didn't even flinch.

But just before the weapon struck...

The attacker stopped.

His feet dug into the concrete, as if something had forced him to stop. The steel bar trembled in his hand, but he couldn't move it.

And then, his eyes began to turn red, a dark, deep shade, as if another consciousness was breaking through from within him.

Suhyeon stood still, his hands in his pockets, as if he were just waiting for the traffic light to change.

The black spike ♤ under his left eye glowed slowly, pulsing with the same red that burned in the attacker's gaze.

"Eh...? What... is happening to me...?" the boy whispered, his voice breaking. But there was no will left in his voice.

Suhyeon tilted his head slightly, with a small, almost polite smile. His tone was slow, without urgency, like someone giving instructions over the phone after a long day at work:

"You jumped the gun, kid. Bad idea to interrupt me while I'm working."

The bar fell to the ground with a clang, and the sound was lost amid the screams of the street battle. The attacker took a step back... then another. His expression was a sea of confusion.

Suhyeon looked at him as if he were just another file on his desk: irrelevant, manageable, and predictable.

"You can't touch me," he muttered, without a trace of anger, almost with a hint of pity.

The red glow in the boy's eyes flickered once... the fury and fear that had driven him before vanished like smoke in the air.

He stood there, looking at Suhyeon with a new expression... empty and serene. As if he had just awakened from a bad dream. As if Suhyeon was the only thing he recognized amid the chaos.

"A-are you okay, sunbae?" he asked suddenly, his voice soft, obedient, like that of a faithful student awaiting instructions from his master.

Suhyeon raised an eyebrow.

"What's your name?"

"Minjae. I'm in third B..." he replied without hesitation, with a slight smile. He was no longer the same person who had tried to hit him seconds ago. Now he was... someone else.

"Minjae," Suhyeon repeated softly, almost savoring the name of his new subordinate.

"What would you do if I asked you to fight for me?"

"I'd be happy to," the boy said without thinking, stepping forward with a bow. "Just tell me who to attack."

Suhyeon narrowed his eyes, as if feeling a warm current running up his back. This wasn't from the system. It wasn't part of any card... it was something different.

It was his, and with a more dangerous potential.

He looked directly at Minjae, with no trace of humanity left in his gaze. His tone was very dry.

"Go to the east front. Attack your own people. Create confusion. I want to see them break from within."

Minjae nodded immediately, following the orders of his new master.

"Understood."

And without further ado, he turned and disappeared, running toward the battlefield, his gaze still tinged with red, fading more and more.

Suhyeon put his phone back in his pocket and resumed walking, his hands clasped behind his back.

The black spike ♤ glowed faintly beneath his left eye. Suhyeon didn't seem surprised by what had just happened.

He seemed... accustomed to it.

Change of scene: Northern border of East Gangbuk — Minutes later

The screams had moved toward the center. The north was... strangely silent.

Until a figure emerged from the shadows between two alleys: Suhyeon Kim.

Not far away, leaning against a pole with his arms crossed and a crooked smile, Ryu Sikyung waited for him.

"Well, well..." said Ryu, without moving. "If it isn't the expressionless boy who's turning the East upside down."

Suhyeon looked up slowly. There was no surprise in his eyes.

"Of all the faces I could find here... you were the most obvious."

Ryu raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, really? Since when did you suspect?"

"Ryu, go to hell if you think I'm going to tell you. I just came to put an end to the error in the system."

Ryu let out a brief laugh, but his eyes no longer smiled.

"So you already know."

"Number 10 from the North. An infiltrator... gaining Jaeha's trust."

Ryu uncrossed his arms and stood up straight. The reckless gleam in his eyes was still there, but now there was something else: respect.

"And what are you going to do with that information, Suhyeon Kim?"

Suhyeon didn't answer right away.

"What a good minimum wage employee would do in your place."

Ryu tilted his head.

"And that would be...?"

"See if I can take advantage of your betrayal before filing you away with my stapler."
