Chapter 9: A Day at Work
Fenix was brimming with enthusiasm: "Yes, boss, what should I do today?"
Lion sat down at the dining table and glanced at the little kitten that had leaped up: "Just follow me."
Alright.
You pay the money, you make the rules.
Fenix obediently crouched opposite Lion.
Since they got up late, the robot butler served a modest breakfast.
Fenix looked at the sandwich in front of him, extended his paw, pushed the bread slices aside, and started eating the bacon and eggs inside.
Lion never cared about appearances when eating; he simply ate to fill his stomach.
In a few bites, he finished his meal and propped his cheek in his hand to watch Fenix munching on the egg.
After Fenix finished the egg, he smacked his lips, looked up, and met Lion's gaze.
He twitched his ears, looking puzzled.
Lion pushed the milk he had just asked the robot butler to bring over toward Fenix.
Fenix glanced at the milk cup.
The rim of the cup was roughly the size of his head.
Fenix suspected Lion didn't actually want him to drink the milk.
But such minor difficulties couldn't trouble Fenix at all!
Fenix sneered, lifted his paw, and pushed the cup towards the plate.
However, the scene Fenix imagined, with the milk pouring onto the plate, didn't happen.
Instead, he watched as the cup tipped over amid a clatter, spilling milk everywhere, splashing his face as he crouched beside it.
Fenix: "..."
Oops.
Miscalculated!
Lion's eyebrows twitched: "Don't like milk?"
Fenix shook his head.
Not exactly.
Lion looked at the cup, then the plate, and realized something. He changed the container for the milk.
Fenix glanced at Lion, finding him less and less like the cruel person described in the forums.
Isn't he... quite considerate?
Just looks a bit fierce.
Fenix finished a plate of milk, his face wiped clean by the robot butler.
Lion casually brought over the nutritional supplements, took out four pills, and placed them in front of Fenix.
Fenix couldn't help but "meow" softly.
Boss, you are so thoughtful!
Fenix finished the pills in a few bites and was about to compliment his boss when he was picked up by Lion, dressed in formal attire, and stuffed into his pocket.
Fenix: ???
Wait a minute?
Is this what you meant by 'follow me'?
Fenix poked his head out of Lion's suit pocket, finding the soft fabric made it hard to exert force.
Lion looked down at Fenix, who was adjusting his position in the pocket, and just as he was about to speak, he heard a faint ripping sound.
Fenix stiffened, looking up at Lion.
Lion was also looking down at him.
Lion: "..."
Fenix: "..."
Oh no.
This is serious!
What do I do on the first day of work when I've torn the boss's suit?
Fenix panicked, looking pleadingly at Lion, meowing weakly and pitifully.
Lion glanced at the suit, which showed no visible damage externally, and nonchalantly rubbed Fenix's head.
"It's alright, the craftsmanship was poor."
Fenix's paw was still poking out of the hole he had created, feeling very anxious.
He tried to retract his claw that had torn Lion's inner pocket but found it stuck in the hole.
Fenix: ...
What the...?!!!
Oh no.
How could this happen?!
Lion strode out the door with Fenix.
The bodyguard and driver were waiting outside.
Fenix was taken by Lion to the car and lifted out of his pocket.
As he lifted the cat out, more tearing sounds followed, and Fenix's claw that was stuck in the inner pocket ripped the seam completely, pulling it out entirely.
Lion looked at Fenix's paw caught in the pocket and couldn't help but laugh.
Fenix felt like he was suffocating.
Was it my misjudgment of the awakened body's strength, or was the suit just that cheap?
What a mess.
This could definitely go into Fenix's album of most embarrassing moments!
Lion pulled Fenix's paw out of the hole and placed the kicking kitten on the seat beside him.
Lion glanced at Fenix, who had retreated into a corner and was sulking.
"Today, accompany me to meet Ferran."
The sulking cat twitched his ears.
Ferran?
Sounds familiar.
Fenix muttered to himself and pawed at the terminal around his neck, ready to search, when Lion said: "The younger prince of Fernando Group, known for aerospace technology."
Fenix realized.
The cold-blooded CEO who loves sweets!
One of the male leads, seemingly aloof but actually a kid at heart.
Oh, right, Athena's younger wolf dog!
No offense meant.
Fenix turned to look at Lion, noticing him slowly stuffing the torn inner pocket back into place.
Fenix choked, typing: "Boss, how much did this suit cost?"
"What's wrong?"
Fenix typed word by word: "I'll pay..."
"The suit you're wearing, sir, is a handcrafted piece by Master Maier, valued at 4.37 million."
Hearing the bodyguard's words, Fenix silently deleted the unfinished text.
Fenix can't afford it!
Even selling Fenix wouldn't cover it!!!
You might as well kill me!!!
Lion looked at the kitten, who had buried his face in the corner and was sulking again, finding Fenix increasingly adorable.
But Fenix had been sulking for too long, to the point where Lion was getting a bit bored.
He reached out and tapped Fenix's little head: "You don't have to pay."
Oh my god.
How could there be such a gentle, kind, considerate, and unassuming boss like Lion!!!
Fenix was moved to tears, typing: "But I broke it, I should be responsible."
Lion, seeing the word 'responsible,' nearly burst out laughing.
"You're right," he nodded seriously.
?
Wait a minute.
Fenix was just being polite.
Why are you taking it seriously?
Fenix looked up, pleadingly at Lion.
Lion stared at Fenix for a long time, deep in thought, and then slowly said, "Since you want to be responsible, I can't stop you."
No, no, no.
Actually, it would be better if you did.
Fenix slumped: "Meow."
Lion smiled: "Then fix it for me, that's how you'll be responsible."
Fenix jolted: "Meow!"
Fine!
Fine!
Fine!
What a pain!
Oh my god!
How could there be such a gentle, kind, considerate, unassuming, and understanding boss like Lion!!!
The best boss ever!!!
My goodness!
Fenix was almost moved to tears!
Lion glanced at Fenix's tail tip, which was happily wagging, his eyes filled with amusement.
This kid is too easy to understand.
The easy-to-understand Fenix voluntarily dove into Lion's pocket when getting out of the car.
This time, to prevent his paw from slipping into the hole, he preemptively stuck his tail in!
The clever Fenix poked his head out of Lion's pocket, looked down at the tip of his tail that had slipped out of the suit's hem, twitched it, and then pulled it back, tucking it into Lion's belt loop.
Lion and Ferran had agreed to meet at Marina City's top restaurant, a place Fenix never dared to set foot in before.
But as soon as Lion got out of the car, he was stopped by a receptionist with a smile.
"Sir, we don't allow pets here."
Lion, surprisingly unperturbed, was in a good mood.
"Not a pet," he said, "just a child in their awakening period."
Fenix was petted by Lion, fiddled with his terminal, and cooperatively typed: "Hello, Sister."
What a shameless greeting.
Fenix thought.
But what can you do? Who knew this awakening period child was already 22!
The receptionist, having confirmed that the kitten was a child in the awakening period, led Lion into the elevator.
Lion glanced down at Fenix.
Fenix was looking down, focused on his tail tip that had slipped out of Lion's suit hem.
Wagging left, wagging right.
Lion couldn't resist reaching out to pinch Fenix's tail.
Fenix looked up at him.
Lion casually ruffled the kitten's head.
Fenix was ruffled to the point of shaking his head, but didn't resist with his paws.
Get used to it, Fenix thought.
He was going to be a psychological comforter after all.
The kind that lies down and accepts pats!
This time, Ferran had initiated the meeting with Lion.
He was five years junior to Lion – in the Awakening School terms. To arrange this meeting, he had to go through numerous intermediaries.
Lion was known for being strict with others but lenient with himself.
Lion Corp. was notoriously strict from top to bottom, but Lion's personal style was quite relaxed.
This was something Ferran had heard about.
But he never expected Lion to bring a cat to a meeting.
Ferran looked at the cat given a special seat.
"Who is this?" he asked.
Lion calmly replied, "My brother in the awakening period."
Ferran's face remained stoic as he nodded.
He didn't care about Lion having a brother; he got straight to talking business.
Fenix wasn't interested in their commercial discussions. He ordered a large steak, glanced at Ferran, who kept a cold, aloof face and only ordered a main course and a side wine, and decided to order a bunch of desserts.
Targeted treatment.
For a sweet tooth, feed them sweets!
I'm such a considerate little kitten.
Fenix sighed.
Although Fenix couldn't afford the suit, he was still useful with his trove of insider information!
Ferran frowned, his face cold: "I don't like sweets, eat them yourself."
Lion acted indulgently toward his "brother": "He's sharing with you."
Ferran looked a bit troubled but, considering he was discussing business with Lion, didn't want to refuse the goodwill of Lion's brother. So, he reluctantly started using his utensils.
Lion noticed Ferran becoming more agreeable.
He raised an eyebrow, looking at Fenix, who had shown a disdainful expression after one bite of red velvet cake.
Fenix didn't like these.
Clearly, he had ordered them specifically for Ferran.
The conversation afterward went unexpectedly smoothly. Ferran seemed inexplicably in a good mood and even willing to make concessions.
Lion was pleased.
He usually disliked personally negotiating deals, but given that Ferran managed to contact his subordinate ship captain to arrange this meeting, he had come.
Ferran found Lion wasn't as difficult to talk to as the rumors suggested.
The meal ended with both sides satisfied. As they parted ways, Ferran glanced at Fenix.
He never, never, never ordered desserts at such restaurants.
"Your brother is adorable," he said to Lion sincerely.
Fenix: !
Knock knock.
Isn't that a coincidence!
Fenix also thought he was super cute!
You have great taste.
Next time you come, I'll order you more sweets!
Fenix happily wagged his tail as Lion carried him to the car.
Lion lifted him to eye level and shook him slightly.
"How did you know Ferran likes those sweets?"
Fenix calmly typed: "I don't know either."
Lion: "Didn't know he liked them?"
Fenix, bluffing with his eyes closed: "I just felt he liked them. I don't know why I felt that way."
Lion paused, considering the possibility of Fenix being a fantasy species, accepted the explanation readily.
Fenix: ?
Just like that?!
Oh my god!
Lion is truly a considerate, gentle, and understanding godlike boss!!!
Fenix, full of gratitude, was placed on Lion's lap.
Fenix didn't mind. He lay between Lion's legs, holding his terminal and opening a series of web pages.
Lion glanced and saw they were all sewing tutorials.
Lion: ...
Really planning to sew the pocket for me.
Lion found it amusing.
Fenix didn't find it amusing at all.
He was seriously studying the tutorial, then turned to pull out Lion's inner pocket to examine it.
As he pulled, he saw two large clumps of cat hair fall out of the black inner pocket.
Two large clumps.
Fenix was stunned.
He couldn't help but scratch his head with his paw.
Another clump of hair fell out.
Fenix froze.
Fenix was shocked!
Fenix hugged the clumps of hair, trembling with both paws, feeling dizzy.
Oh my god!
Fenix was actually starting to lose hair!!!
