Chapter 21: Oh No!
Ah!!!
Oh god, oh god, oh god!
How could this happen!
How could this be happening?!
Why?!
FML!
Fenix felt like he couldn't breathe!
Damn.
Fenix took a deep breath.
This was absolutely the most embarrassing moment of Fenix's life!
Unprecedented and likely never to be repeated!
Fenix flipped over and sat up, not daring to face his boss, who he had just unwittingly embarrassed.
Getting his belly rubbed, having his fur licked, even getting a tooth chipped by a dried fish—none of these could compare to the current humiliation!
Grass.
Too awkward.
How did he not notice this before when grooming himself?
None of the cat-keeping posts mentioned anything like this happening!
This was so damn embarrassing!
24K pure stupidity!
Fenix felt really stupid.
And he was making himself stupid.
Fenix, how could you be so clueless?!
Fenix rolled into a corner and curled into a ball.
Lion glanced at Fenix, who had stretched himself out, trying to squeeze into the seat gap to kill himself. He thought for a moment and said, "This is normal. You've just grown up, so it's more obvious now. It was just small before, so you didn't notice."
???
Grass.
Stop talking!
Stop talking, please!
Chill!
Fenix was mentally breaking down, flicked his tail to cover his head completely, not wanting to hear any more.
Lion looked at the bell that was exposed because of the tail flick: "..."
It wasn't much better than before.
But who would mind being fooled by a little kitten?
Lion didn't mind.
But Fenix minded very much.
Lion looked at the self-isolated Fenix and spoke again, "This is nothing, theoretically speaking, you aren't wearing clothes now."
Fenix's whole body jolted, his brain buzzing.
He sprang up, staring at Lion in shock.
Right!
Turning into an awakened form means running around naked!
But the fur was warm and soft, giving no sense of nudity.
Not mentioning it was fine, but now that it was pointed out, Fenix felt uncomfortable everywhere.
He anxiously circled on the seat, trying to wrap himself with his tail.
Lion watched Fenix, who was biting his tail and spinning in circles, and fell silent.
He probably shouldn't have said that. Fenix didn't feel this was normal for an awakened form; instead, he became even more unsettled.
"..."
The bodyguard, sitting in the driver's seat, felt like the ellipses in his heart had piled up like mountains.
Boss, at this time, let the kid quietly deal with the embarrassment.
He wanted to speak but held back, then wanted to speak again but didn't dare.
Forget it.
This kind of thing, let the boss figure it out himself.
Fenix circled for a while, realizing his big tail couldn't wrap him up, and without any small clothes to wear, he rolled back into Lion's pocket, burying his head inside, adopting an ostrich stance of ignoring everything.
Too hard.
Fenix curled into a ball.
Being a cat was too hard.
Really too hard.
Before awakening, I was so happy.
It's all the awakening's fault!!
Lion wanted to speak again: "You..."
Shut it, Ray!
Don't say anything else!
Fenix kicked Lion's waist with both paws.
Lion paused.
Fenix rolled away in fear, quickly checking if he had torn the pocket.
He had already ruined one expensive suit of the boss, he couldn't break another!
The first one was still hanging in his room!
Fortunately, it wasn't torn.
Fenix breathed a huge sigh of relief and typed: "Boss, I offer you a shocking secret in exchange for forgetting what happened just now."
Lion raised an eyebrow: "What secret?"
Fenix was very serious: "Your weakness!"
Lion paused, the amusement in his eyes fading a bit.
Weakness?
His weakness was clear—his temper was easily triggered, but Fenix had solved that problem. What other weakness could there be?
Just as Lion was about to speak, he suddenly remembered how Fenix somehow knew Ferran liked sweets.
Lion tugged at the corner of his mouth, looking at the kitten poking his head out of the pocket for a long time before slowly saying, "Tell me."
Fenix typed: "Boss, you can never bite your own tail!"
Lion: "..."
I...
...Fine.
He had overestimated this little kitten.
Fenix couldn't keep any shocking secrets.
He was simply a naive, carefree, silly kitten.
Fenix meowed: "Haha! Didn't expect that, did you?"
"..."
Lion felt a headache coming on, wanting to smack the cat.
Fenix insisted on securing his deal: "According to the agreement, forget what just happened!"
Lion flicked Fenix's forehead, flipping the kitten over: "Okay."
Fenix was happy, opening the shopping interface on his terminal to look for suitable pet clothes.
Lion glanced at him, letting him do his thing, while he reopened the myth stories and continued reading.
…
BluBay was one of the most famous scenic spots in Marina City—if not the entire Cobalt Star—and there was no off-season.
The sea at BluBay attracted many deep-sea creatures due to nutrient content and migratory patterns, varying with the seasons.
With each season bringing different attractions, there was no off-season.
In such a tourist destination, Lion owned a hotel covering about seven hundred hectares, encompassing a tranquil bay on either side of the coast.
Being a hotel exclusive to awakened individuals, there were few rooms.
Most of the space was dedicated to simulations of various terrains and entertainment facilities.
After entering the gate, Fenix couldn't resist curiosity and peeked out.
The bodyguard noticed and opened the external view window.
Fenix lay in Lion's pocket, his paws gripping the edge, watching as the vehicle became transparent, revealing the scenery outside.
Rainforest zones, desert zones, savanna dry seasons, wet seasons, and polar regions.
They traversed these varied climates and terrains and stopped before a suspension bridge leading to the bay.
Lion got out of the car.
The bodyguard explained to Fenix, "The hotel is on the other side of the bridge, where accommodations, dining, and entertainment are located."
Fenix was stunned, glancing back at the bay.
The bodyguard continued, "This side is for adaptation training for awakened individuals."
Fenix paused: "There aren't any guests, isn't it operational?"
"It was cleared before we arrived. As for operations, awakened individuals often prefer this place when vacationing on Cobalt Star. Additionally, we have a confidential cooperation with the awakening schools, making this a fixed training ground for advanced courses, hosting one to two hundred students every April to June."
Fenix: "..."
That's your reason for operating only two months a year?
Damn.
Is this the world of awakened individuals?
I didn't even know such a place existed!
Fenix felt surrounded by lemons, feeling sour.
Fenix was about to ask if they would lose money, but remembering the confidential cooperation with the awakening schools, he stayed silent.
The awakening schools were entirely neutral entities, set up independently in the capitals of various countries.
Cooperating with the awakening schools surely brought benefits.
Fenix licked his nose, flattening ten lemon trees growing in his mouth, as Lion walked across the suspension bridge.
The accommodation was indeed scarce, designed to accommodate only about three hundred people simultaneously.
Lion had specifically cleared the area before arriving, leaving only a few staff members to maintain basic operations.
Fenix was brought by Lion to a villa closest to the ocean.
They enjoyed lunch while listening to the sea breeze and waves.
Lion asked, "Do you want to play around first or start training?"
Fenix chose the latter without hesitation.
Lion nodded, pulling out an operation panel, inputting data, and activating the jungle area.
Lion stuffed the cat into his pocket and crossed the bridge to the jungle entrance.
Lion stood at the entrance, setting the difficulty level to beginner minimalist mode under Fenix's watchful eyes.
Fenix didn't understand these settings, peering out and noticing five difficulty levels.
Minimalist, Easy, Normal, Hard, Extreme.
Each level had a bracket with recommended age and type of awakened form.
Fenix checked the minimalist level, which read: Recommended for 13-15-year-old teenagers, non-aggressive, herbivorous, small animal awakened forms.
A carnivorous but perhaps small animal like a kitten slowly typed a question mark.
Fenix couldn't help but type: "Boss, this doesn't seem suitable for me?"
Fenix escaped the pursuit of a mighty lion!
Such minimalist mode is unworthy of my exceptional talent!
Lion heard this, glanced at the kitten almost bursting with pride on the grass, and pressed the simulation button.
Fenix saw a gray rabbit emerge from its burrow under a nearby tree.
How cute the rabbit was!
It cautiously looked around, sniffing the air, leaving its burrow and moving a few meters into the forest.
Suddenly, the bark beside it moved, and the rabbit bolted.
But it was fast, and the snake disguised as bark was faster!
It shot out, biting the rabbit's leg!
The rabbit screamed and struggled fiercely, managing to break free!
The rabbit panicked, trying to dash back, but a sharp cry approached.
A baboon dropped from above, swinging from branch to branch, snatching the rabbit that escaped the snake's mouth, then whistling and disappearing.
Everything happened so quickly, in just one minute and forty-eight seconds!
Fenix stared dumbfounded at Lion.
Lion calmly stated, "This rabbit was rather dumb, caught in the second round."
Fenix: ?
Fenix seriously considered.
Then realized a kitten like him might not survive the first round.
Lion asked Fenix, "There are 68 types of jungle animals in minimalist mode, all simulated robots with safety features, not harming anyone. However, they are programmed with thousands of behavioral patterns. The smartest rabbit only made it to the twenty-fourth round... Still want to increase the difficulty?"
Fenix choked.
Even the dumbest rabbit outperformed him; how could a weak kitten dare to speak?
Lion looked at Fenix, pointing to the vast ocean visible beyond the bay.
"Do you see that sea?" Lion asked.
Fenix nodded.
Lion patted the kitten's head, "That's the water I let you into last night."
