Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Kakashi Stabs Rin

"Why are you here, Shenu?" Kaitan muttered under his breath, giving him a look to leave quickly.

However, Shenu didn't seem to notice. Instead, he raised an eyebrow. "Today is the Fourth Hokage's succession ceremony. Everyone's in high spirits, and the night market is lively. I went for a stroll, but…" He smirked. "I didn't expect to see you here with a girlfriend."

His teasing words made Rin blush, and she tried to pull her hand away.

"I… I'm not—"

"Hmph. What does it matter to you if I have a girlfriend?" Kaitan cut her off, tightening his grip on Rin's hand. His glare at Shenu was sharp and unrelenting. "If you annoy me again, I'll make sure you feel pain during our next spar."

Shenu's smirk faltered. He remembered the genjutsu Kaitan had used during their last match, and a flicker of fear crossed his face.

"Fine, fine! I'll leave. No need to get so touchy." Shenu backed off quickly, muttering, "One day, I'll find a girlfriend, and you'll be the one eating my dog food." He disappeared into the crowd.

"That was my colleague," Kaitan explained to Rin, his expression softening. "His name's Shenu. He's got a sharp tongue, but he's harmless."

"Oh…" Rin murmured, still flustered.

Shenu's interruption lingered in Rin's mind, and Kaitan's earlier words—What does it matter to you if I have a girlfriend?—made her heart flutter.

The atmosphere between them shifted as they continued their stroll, with Rin now bashfully quiet.

Behind them, Shenu's cunning nature got the better of him. Using his stealth training, he trailed them at a distance.

"Damn it," Shenu muttered. "They're so lovey-dovey. I swear, next time I'll find my own girlfriend and make them eat my dog food."

A Deepening Bond

Despite Shenu's interruption, the night brought Kaitan and Rin closer. Their relationship continued to grow, with Kaitan balancing his work, family life, and budding feelings for Rin.

But life in Konoha was never without its challenges.

One day, during a mission briefing, Kaitan uncovered critical intelligence while probing the memories of a captured Kirigakure shinobi.

---

An Ominous Discovery

Kaitan's mind processed the fragments of memory he extracted from the captive. Assassinations, espionage missions, and the transport of something highly classified came to light.

Suddenly, one memory stood out.

"The Kirigakure forces smuggled something into the Land of Fire through the Bear Country border," Kaitan realized with a jolt. His pulse quickened as the implications hit him.

Setting aside his ninja headband, Kaitan headed straight to Yamanako's office.

---

Reporting to Yamanako

Kaitan knocked briskly on the door.

"Come in," Yamanako called, his attention on a stack of mission reports.

"Sir, I have urgent intelligence," Kaitan said, stepping inside. "While probing the mind of a Kirigakure shinobi, I uncovered information suggesting they smuggled something into the Land of Fire through the Bear Country border two days ago."

Yamanako leaned forward, his interest piqued. "Go on. What did you find?"

"Based on their actions and the state of Kirigakure—considering the Seven Ninja Swordsmen have suffered heavy losses—I suspect they're planning revenge against Konoha," Kaitan explained. "And given the timing and secrecy, I believe the smuggled item might involve… a tailed beast."

Yamanako's eyes widened. "A tailed beast?"

"Yes," Kaitan confirmed, recounting the fragmented memories and his analysis.

Yamanako processed the information carefully. "Your conclusion makes sense. I'll escalate this immediately. In the meantime, write a full report and be prepared for further orders."

Kaitan saluted before leaving. He knew this revelation might trigger catastrophic consequences.

---

A Race Against Time

In the Hokage's office, Yamanako relayed Kaitan's findings to Minato. The Fourth Hokage listened intently, piecing together the grim picture.

"Rin… Tailed beast… Kirigakure… This could be disastrous," Minato muttered.

Without hesitation, he gave his orders. "Summon the Anbu and the sealing team. We'll move out immediately."

Minato's instincts told him they were already behind.

---

Kakashi's Heartbreak

Deep in the forest near the Bear Country border, lightning crackled.

"Chidori!"

Kakashi's voice rang out as he lunged forward. His outstretched hand, charged with lightning, pierced Rin's chest.

Time seemed to freeze. Kakashi's eyes widened in horror as Rin's blood soaked his hand.

Behind Rin, a Kirigakure Jōnin collapsed, barely alive and trembling.

Rin managed a faint smile as she fell into Kakashi's arms.

"Kakashi… thank you," she whispered.

---

Minato's Desperate Arrival

Far behind, Minato raced through the forest using his teleportation jutsu. The urgency in his movements was palpable.

When he arrived at the scene, the aftermath was grim. The forest was scarred with craters and fallen trees. Shurikens and kunai littered the ground, along with the bodies of Kirigakure shinobi.

In the center of it all, Kakashi knelt, cradling Rin's lifeless body.

"Kakashi…" Minato called softly.

The voice brought Kakashi out of his daze. He looked up at his teacher, his expression hollow.

"I… killed Rin…" Kakashi whispered, his voice breaking.

Minato closed his eyes briefly, the weight of his failure as a sensei crushing him.

Kaitan's Resolve

Back in Konoha, Kaitan completed his report. He couldn't help but feel helpless knowing Rin's fate had likely already been sealed.

"Even with foreknowledge, I'm still too weak to stop these tragedies," Kaitan thought bitterly.

He clenched his fists. "I can't keep relying on others to save the day. If Pain's attack on Konoha and other future threats are inevitable, I need to be strong enough to protect the people I care about."

Kaitan's mind turned to new ideas. To counter the overwhelming power of tailed beasts and unique bloodline abilities, he needed to develop his own secret techniques.

"Amplified genjutsu… If I can combine my mental abilities with techniques as powerful as those of the Ino-Shika-Cho clan, I might stand a chance," Kaitan resolved.

He thought of Kakashi's pain, Rin's sacrifice, and the countless lives hanging in the balance.

"This isn't just about me anymore. It's about ensuring a future where these tragedies don't repeat themselves."

As the moon rose over Konoha, Kaitan returned to training, his determination burning brighter than ever.
