Chapter 34: Chapter 33: The Ultimate Stage
----MATCH DAY----
It was 7:00 pm, ninety minutes away from greatness, a stage never before seen in Japan's football history. The final attendance for the game was reaching close to 80,600. The majority of them, almost 99 percent of the audience, were there to see the spectacle that was Itoshi Sae, in his first game with the National team.
As the stadium flooded with people, two key groups arrived right on time. The first was a large armada of black cars opening and revealing Atsuomi Ayanokouji, surrounded by bodyguards.
Atsuomi: Pick me up at this exact location in 4 hours. Have a room prepped up in the White room by then as well.
He walked inside the stadium with an authority that could be felt by everyone around him as they moved out of the way, allowing him to bypass security alongside his multiple bodyguards.
The second group arrived in multiple busses, piling up in the front of the stadium while hundreds of first- and second-year students exited, all excited about the event to come.
Hirata, who's been a fan of football since he was little, was ecstatic to see his favorite player from Japan, Itoshi Sae. He was walking along with the rest of class 2-B.
Hirata: I can't believe it. It's finally happening. Itoshi Sae is playing for the National team!
Kei: From those interviews you showed me, he sounds like a cocky snob.
Hirata nervously scratched his head.
Hirata: He's not like that...
Kei: Anyway, it beats classes and at least we're off that island. I brought headphones for a reason.
Maya: Don't you wanna see the game at least? It'll be fun. Let's try to make the most out of it.
Kei: I just don't have the energy to get excited over a football game.
Maya sighed.
Maya: It's Kiyo-san again, isn't it?
Kei immediately jolted, almost like she was taken off guard.
Kei: W-What does he have to do with anything?
Maya: He has everything to do with it. Even though you looked happy a couple weeks after he got expelled, you've been very bitter recently. What, ya lost contact with him?
Kei seemed a bit sad but responded none-the-less.
Kei: I've been texting him and calling him for the past few weeks but he never answers my calls. I get an occasional 'I'm busy' text but that's it. It's frustrating.
Maya: He might be cheating on you.
Kei: What?!
Hirata: Kiyotaka wasn't that type of person. School probably has been pretty hard for him.
Kei: I don't think so. He even said he joined a football club.
Hirata: Football? Really? I asked him last year if he wanted to join our club but he said no. I guess he's finally getting out of his shell.
Suzune Horikita, the leader of the class walked right past the three, addressing them.
Horikita: Have your tickets out so we can go in smoothly. We're almost at the attendance booth.
Everyone: OK!
Sudo walked alongside Horikita, asking her if she wanted to sit next to him.
Horikita: Sure, I don't mind. Just make sure to pay attention to the game and not to me. They could test us on our knowledge of the match. A school trip like this isn't going to just be a vacation.
Sudo answered like a solider.
Sudo: Yes, Maam!
Onodera called out Sudo, reminding him that he agreed to sit with her.
Onodera: So I'm just chopped liver?
Sudo tried to laugh it off.
Sudo: I didn't forget. You'll still sit next to me!
Ike, holding his ticket out, stood alongside Shinohara. Koenji, looming over everyone, seemed slightly interested in the match, but it was for a different reason than everyone else. Never hearing about Blue Lock before, he was surprised to find no information on the group anywhere online.
Koenji: Ah, so many faces, so many people. What a marvelous event.
Curiosity was not limited to Kiyotaka's former classmates. Ichinose from class 2-D, whose been in a state of depression since Ayanokouji's expulsion, was holding her authority of the class by a single thread. Kanzaki had begun to question her rule only to fall in line from criticism from the likes of Chihiru-chan.
Despite being this depressed, Ichinose still attempted to put on a front.
Ryuen from class 2-C had taken this opportunity to place some bets against the U-20 team and go against the spread by using a friend in Tokyo to bet some chump change and agreed to split the winnings. With the U-20 team being heavily favored, Ryuen could almost 100x his money if their bet cashes in.
Ibuki: Placing a bet like that was stupid. Do you think some nobody organization can go against the official U-20 Japanese National team? Especially with their new player?
Ryuen: Kukuku, so pessimistic. Can't ya let me have fun? It's not every day we get to go to a packed stadium for free. Right guys.
Albert: Yes.
Ishizaki: Fuck yeah!
Surrounded by her entourage, Sakayanagi smiled and carefully walked on forward. Her classmates were surprised to see how happy she was. It was almost like she was glowing.
Arisu Sakayanagi: Fufufu... this is going to be fun.
Masumi Kamuro: What gives? You never seemed interested in football. Why the sudden interest? You even spoke with Hirata and the football club in regard to the rules and basic facts.
Arisu smiled.
Arisu: I'm going to see an old friend. I wonder how he's changed.
Masumi: What friend?
She couldn't contain her happiness.
Arisu: You'll find out when we enter.
Masumi: (What is up with her? Who is she so keen on meeting that she took the time to learn about football? The only person that comes to mind... no there's no way. How would he even make it to one of these squads?)
Third years were not allowed to come since graduation for them was just around the corner. However, the first years were prevalent, especially the likes of Nanase from class 1-D who didn't know much about soccer in comparison to Housen, whose favorite player was Itoshi Sae.
As for faces that won't be seen, Kushida was expelled in one of their exams and Amasawa left ANHS the second Kiyotaka left as well.
With all the students entering the stadium and taking their seats together in the middle row, and underneath the booth, the match was imminent.
Fanboys of Itoshi Sae were everywhere. Fangirls dressed in the Japanese national team's jersey along with Itoshi Sae plushies were prevalent. It was clear who the favorite was.
...
15 min before the match in Blue Lock's Locker Room
...
Bachira: Check it out, Isagi. Does it suit me?
The Blue Lock Eleven were now wearing their official uniforms, all with their respective numbers.
Bachira, in his new drip and donning the number eight, awaited his response.
Isagi: Ooh, looking good. It's weird that this is our first time wearing a Blue Lock uniform.
Bachira: Yup. I'd say it's about time.
Kiyotaka: Let's keep our eye on the prize. Anything short of a win is death.
Isagi: Yeah! We've all come crazy far.
Nagi: Today won't be the end. In fact, we're just getting started.
Isagi: Yeah.
*SLIDE*
The doors to the locker room slid open and Ego entered, wearing a suit and looked all cleaned up.
Ego: Hello all, I'm running a bit late. I've been mulling over this until the very last minute, but...
*Tap* *Tap*
The screen in front of them turned on, revealing Ego's picks. The picks are as follows:
Raichi Mikage Reo Baro Tokimitsu Kurona Hiori Nanase Chigiri Seira Ishikari Tsurugi Igarashi
Ego: I've decided which players will be on the bench. We're allowed three substitutions. Do not let your guard down during the match and be ready to join at a moment's notice.
Igarashi: (I... I made it!)
Ego: Now, in the past two weeks, with the sole goal of winning this match, you have all succeeded in coming together as a team. The world does not yet know of you. Is this not the ultimate stage? In these coming 90 minutes, change your fates... WE'RE WINNING THIS, BLUE LOCK. TODAY, YOU WILL CARVE YOUR EGOS INTO THE WORLD.
Igarashi: HELL YEAH!
Gagamaru: Sure
Niko: Right
Isagi: (Let's go to our fateful battle!)
Kiyotaka: (It's finally time. No going back.)
Rin: (Oni-san, you're mine.)
The Blue Lock Eleven exited the locker room. As soon as they reached the opening tunnel into the pitch, they realized they were face-to-face with the U-20.
Teppei: Ah, that's them, Blue Lock.
Isagi: (So these are the U-20 starters?!)
Kiyotaka walked forward and shared a glare between himself and Itoshi Sae. This was thwarted, however, when a familiar face emerged from the team.
Yagami: Ayanokouji-senpai, long time no see.
Kiyotaka looked over and saw none other than Yagami in the flesh. It didn't really surprise him, however, since he knew of the white room student to begin with.
Isagi: Hm? You know one of their players?
Kiyotaka: He's a year younger than me. Surprised to see you here, Yagami. Let's have a good game.
Yagami went over to shake his hand and looked slightly shocked.
Yagami: (His hand...it's stronger. His whole build is more refined than before even from the White room's parameters. I knew he'd train in this program, but... does he really think he'll make a career out of a shitty sport like Soccer?)
Yagami smiled.
Yagami: Likewise. It's so amazing to see you again. Especially after what happened at school!
Kiyotaka tensed his hold on Yagami's hand, making him wince. He looked up to see Kiyotaka's smile.
Kiyotaka: I could say the same to you. It really was a whole misunderstanding. You shouldn't have gotten in trouble. It's really a shame.
This struck a nerve. That memory stained his mind. The image of Nagumo, Horikita, Ibuki, Amasawa, and the many men from the Whiteroom that pulled him away didn't sit well with him. It almost made him lose his composure.
Kiyotaka: I can't wait to see what you learned in a couple months.
Yagami chuckled.
Yagami: Likewise.
The two separated as Isagi looked on, completely tensed from the situation in front of him.
Karasu: *TCH* Even I'm getting excited.
Otoya: Yeah. Hella hype.
Yukimiya: This doesn't feel half bad.
Arryu: I'm trembling with style.
Gagamaru met with the opponent's goalkeeper in an awkward first-impression.
Gagamaru: Are you the goalkeeper? Today's the first time I'm playing as one.
U-20 goalkeeper: What?
Kiyotaka lined up next to Itoshi Sae who continued to look at him in curiosity all the while Kiyotaka sighed.
Kiyotaka: Take a picture. It'll last longer, kidnapper.
Sae: That rabid beast has told me so much about you. Made me a decent little bet too.
Kiyotaka: Hm?
Sae: Hope it's not just blind obedience and you can actually back what he thinks you are.
Kiyotaka: Guess you'll have to find out.
Sae: I guess I will.
Rin looked on in annoyance, glaring at the pair talking amongst one another.
Isagi, on the other hand, lined up with the captain of the U-20, Aiku.
Aiku: That Shido dude... used to be on your team's side, right?
Isagi: Hm?
Aiku: Sorry to say, but he won't be playing today. We'll end this without letting you guys score even once. So best of luck, blue lock.
Isagi: Sure. (If I lose, that'll be the end of my football career... It's only because of everything I've managed to live through, that right now, I am standing on this stage...)
Single file, each team exited the tunnel to the chants of 'Itoshi Sae' and 'Japan.'
...Cameras were everywhere...
...Noise flooded the 80,000-capacity stadium...
...the match was soon to begin...
From his booth, Atsuomi Ayanokouji sat down with a glass of wine, overlooking the chaos.
Atsuomi: This is what interests you, son? No. As the pinnacle of the Whiteroom, you're meant for something else, something greater than this joke. Today you'll learn my influence is greater than just the confines of the White room.
In the rows of seats below the VIP booth, ANHS students looked on at the sight in anticipation for the game to commence.
Hirata: I see Itoshi Sae!
Kei continued to text Kiyotaka, waiting for a reply that wouldn't come.
Kei: Yeah, yeah. That's fine.
Ike, who looked on with Shinohara, noticed something.
Ike: Wait, is that...
Shinohara: No way...
Maya Sato looked on with a bit more attention and immediately saw a familiar face on the large screen and below.
Maya: No fucking way! Kei! Look down there! Look!
Kei, now annoyed, looked up from her phone.
Kei: Wha-
She stopped in her tracks. Because right in front of her, was a close up to Ayanokouji Kiyotaka's face in a blue uniform for Blue Lock.
Kei: WHAT THE FUCK?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hirata: You gotta be kidding me?! Is that...
Horikita: Ayanokouji?!!!!!!!!
All of the second years looked on in shock at Kiyotaka's image and him exiting the tunnel alongside the rest of his team.
Sudo: KIYOTAKA?! What's he doing on Blue Lock's team?! He never played football before!
Ike: This has to be a nightmare or something?! How does he go from getting expelled to playing a game with the U-20 team?!
Hirata looked on in sheer excitement.
Hirata: He's wearing number 30, Messi's first number. That can't be a coincidence.
Kei was at a loss of words, unable to process what was happening.
Kei: So when he mentioned he joined a soccer club.... was he talking about Blue Lock?!
Maya Sato: Oh my god, he looks so fucking hot in that uniform.
Kei and Hirata looked on in sheer disgust at Maya's words as her lust went out of control.
Koenji, looking on while slightly stretching, started laughing to himself.
Koenji: I knew something interesting would come to pass. I get to see what Kiyotaka-boy can do when he actually tries.
Chabashira-sensei, the teacher for class 2-B, widened her eyes and couldn't gather any sort of words to speak.
This did not fly under the radar with the rest of the second-year classes. In class 2-C, Ryuen started chuckling.
Ryuen: KUKUKUKUKU!!!! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!! I KNEW I'D SEE YA AGAIN, MONSTER!!!
Katsuragi: Kiyotaka?! When did he do sports?!
Ibuki: He's good at fighting but... football?
Albert: Interesting.
Ishizaki: Let's go, Kiyotaka-san!
In Class 2-D, Ichinose looked down at Kiyotaka's face, and started crying tears of joy.
Her classmates, including Kanzaki, provided her with tissues and looked on, astonished.
Kanzaki: Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, I knew there was something off about you. What are you even doing in a place like this?
Sakayanagi, from Class 2-A, couldn't control her laughter, so much so that Masumi attempted to stifle it.
Masumi: You knew... you knew he'd be here.
Arisu smiled and wiped tears from her eyes that came from her excessive laughter.
Arisu: Of course, I knew. Why else would I read up on a sport like football. This is incredible. I can't wait to see what he's going to pull off, fufufufufu.
The first-year students saw Kiyotaka, but they also looked on at Yagami who was on the U-20 team. Amasawa was no longer at the school, but Nanase was still there.
Nanase: Kiyotaka-senpai...
Housen: What is that pussy doing down there? Do they just let anyone on their team?
Although the majority of the people in this stadium were here for Itoshi Sae, Kiyotaka still had his own supporters in the stands. Despite the shock the entire student body of ANHS felt at the sight of Kiyotaka, they cheered nonetheless for him.
Sportscaster Tereasa Atsuto went live along with Football commentator, Natsuki Harutarou for the match.
Tereasa: ARE YOU WATCHING, JAPAN? A MATCH FOR THE AGES IS ABOUT TO BEGIN! THE STADIEM'S ABSOLUTELY PACKED! WHAT DO YOU TAKE OF THIS, NATSUKI-SAN?!
Natsuki: WHAT CAN I SAY, IT'S ABSOLUTELY NUTS! WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS...? BUT I MEAN, ITOSHI SAE IS GOING TO PLAY, AFTER ALL! THE MAN THE WORLD HAS THEIR EYES ON!
Tereasa: AND NOW, HERE ARE THE FORMATIONS FOR BOTH TEAMS! AS EXPECTED, ITOSHI SAE'S THE ATTACKNG MIDFIELDER!
The formations are as follows:
BLUE LOCK ELEVEN:
U-20 Team Japan:
Tereasa: THIS MATCH IS BROUGHT TO YOU DIRECTLY FROM JAPAN'S NATIONAL STADIUM IN TOKYO! BEGINNING SOON WITH THE KICK-OFF!
Kei looked on as she saw Kiyotaka get to his position on the field. He looked over to the U-20 bench and saw Shido sitting at the very front.
Shido waived to Kiyotaka as he waived back, finally seeing his best friend after what felt like an eternity.
The large screen brightened up from each side of the arena, showing the score of the U-20 Japan vs Blue Lock Eleven
Isagi: (I really have... come a long way to this amazing place... the me from before Blue Lock... wouldn't have been able to even imagine such a sight... in front of this immense crowd. How far will I be able to fight? No... that's not it... It doesn't matter who else is here. I NEED TO FOCUS ON MYSELF. I HAVE BECOME 'IMMERSED' IN THIS FIGHT!!!)
Kiyotaka: Try not to embarrass yourself in front of everyone, Rin.
Rin: Don't wet your pants in front of your lover, Kiyotaka.
Isagi: Now, now guys.
Rin: And you... don't get nervous now, dumbass.
Isagi: Hah! It's called being excited. Let's go, Kiyotaka, Rin.
Kiyotaka smiled.
Kiyotaka: Yeah.
Rin: Fine by me.
Isagi: (THE BATTLE BEGIN! I WILL CHANGE THE WORLD WITH MY GOALS!!!!)
In the stands, Kei scrunched her hands, now immersed in the sight in front of her. Looking on from above, she noticed how determined Kiyotaka looked. This meant a great deal to him.
It didn't matter that he hadn't been in contact with her these past weeks. It didn't matter he never told her he was here. It didn't matter if he knew she was there, in the rows of supporters, watching him.
She screamed out in support of her boyfriend as the rest of the classes followed.
A whistle from the referee sounded, beginning the most influential match in the history of Japanese Football!!!
Tereasa: KICK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
