Nate stood by the door, his eyes a dark and morbid colour as his wolf expressed his rage at seeing his little sister in the arms of an unmated male.

The unmated male lets out a raging growl that shakes the ground beneath their feet as Nathaniel realises the male is the King. He, however, couldn't care less as no male was allowed to touch his younger sisters.

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? " Nathanial said his voice was like a blaze of burning magma, causing Ariana to jump out of the King's lap in fright, making the King growl in displeasure.

"Nathaniel, it's not as it appears," Ariana said as she approached him, her voice trembling as she tried to grasp his shoulders; her light touch was nudged away with an irritated puff of air.

"REALLY, DO YOU TAKE ME FOR A BLIND MAN?" Nathanial said as he dug his claws into Ariana's arms. "TELL ME, THAT I DIDN'T SEE YOU WHORE YOUR SELF OUT TO THE KING?!"

Ariana felt her eyes sting with tears from the claws that penetrated her skin as raindrops of blood dropped out of the gash. A searing pain of anguished hurt rendered her heart to a halt, she had never seen so much ungratified hate in her brother's eyes before. Did he really hate her so much? Did he really think so lowly of her, she wondered to herself.

Her mind was struggling to believe that he was the same boy she raced through the meadows of her home with. The same boy who took their father's beatings for her and held her close when their father's crude words stung deep like knives into a lover's heart.

Just as the drops of ruby blood fell from the punkchers in her arm on to the stone floor, Ariana felt the air leaving her lungs as she was pushed back by an unconceivable force, making her land on the floor .The back of her head slammed into the corner of a stone table, the edge biting painfully into her skull, causing her vision to blur and her stomach to dip with panic.

Blinking rapidly to clear her vision , Ariana notices the King beside Nathaniel, his hand clasped around Nates neck, an iron grip transforming his skin into a hew of red and blue. He says something to Nate, Ariana's mind to occupied with his actions to decipher what he has said as she uses the remaining energy in her legs to push off the ground, hitting the king and making him stumble backwards.

His eyes were a mass of anger and betrayal as Ariana spurred out, "He's my brother....you can't hurt him." Her words were hoarse between the anchors of her tongue.

A mind-numbing silence spread across the room; only her laboured breathing as well as Nate's could be heard .

Turning around, Ariana walked towards Nate, her hurt and anger at her brother almost disappearing at the sight of him. He almost looked broken as she lifted him off the ground, pulling him to his feet.

"Why? He hurt you," William said, hiding his emotions behind his neutral mask, half knowing what was about to happen. "You're my mate...he hurt you."

"How am I to believe that after you harm my brother and try molesting a woman right before my very eyes?" Ariana said her mind was confused and her heart wanted to side with William, whom she barely knew, but her mind chose her brother over what her heart.

"You will meet her and see for yourself that she is nothing but an acquaintance," William said as he let out a sigh of frustration, sweeping his hand through his hair in annoyance.

"Than I shall be your mate after I meet this female of yours," Ariana said bitterly, even though her insides were filled with hatred for how disconsolate she was being, "Let's leave Nathaniel."

She grasps on to Nathaniel's arm and drags him out of the kitchen, leaving Will behind to his own thoughts.

Walking through dimly lit halls in sunken silence with Nathaniel trailing behind, Ariana gave out a sigh of frustration.

"You're not going to talk, are you?" Ariana asked, already knowing the answer, which was silence. She hated this side of Nate, when he would let the silence speak for him until it crazed her to no end.

"To let you know I am no whore...The king is my mate.... Well, he claims to be " Ariana said with half a smile, trying to lighten the mood.

"I heard," Nathanial said after a moment, his hearts strings twitching with the pesticides of guilt, "and I wish you'd told me that before I made such horrifying accusations."

"There's no need to blame me; a simple apology will suffice." Ariana said as the tension between them cooled.

"That won't be happening any time soon," Nathanial says with a cheeky grin, "and you lost the bet."

"Oh no, I should never have told you about being his mate . "Ariana said with a sigh, not wanting to destroy the happy moment between them with what she actually had to say.

"I can't wait to see the expression on Andria's face when she finds out," Nathanial said with a grin on his face while imagining Andria's face.

"If I tell her, that is," Ariana says, her voice turning serious and her tone going cold.

"What do you mean?" Nathanial asked in concern with furrowed brows as he stopped walking in his confusion.

"Well, I may not tell her; I'm not even sure if I'm Will's mate or not," Andria says as they take a turn to their rooms.

"Did he say you could call him by his name?" Nathanial asks, his wolf getting agitated that his sister called the king by his name, for no one was allowed to address the king by his name unless they were immediate family.

"Yes, and he also freed me from Alpha Alec's punishment," Ariana said, realising that she might just be the king's mate, as he wasn't exactly known for his kindness.

"Well, he is acting as if he is your mate," Nathanial said, opening the door to their apartment in the palace.

"Well, even if he is my mate, I do not trust him," Ariana whispered aloud in return, gaining another confused expression from Nathaniel. "The other night, I saw him with another female."

"Great, the rumours were fake," Nathanial whispered to himself.

"What?" Ariana questioned overhearing her brother.

"I heard the maids talking the other day, something about the King refusing to court any female other than his mate, I guess those are lies," Nathanial said.

"They may not be; we don't have the whole story," Ariana says, as they stopped in front of the doors to her chambers.

"I guess we'll talk tomorrow, good night," Ariana says as she turns to enter her chambers.

"Wait Ari, remember that powerful men can be swords of deception and lies, they can mould the fragments of trust and faith into ill sightings. " Nathanial spoke, his voice losing all its merth only his grave resolve being heard.
