Project Mage

Chapter 22: The Last Waves

Risebelle pushed her system to its limits, channeling an unprecedented amount of water magic into her attack. The energy within her surged like a mighty river, and she directed it toward Aliana using 200% of her magical power to cause a gigantic torrent of water to surge forward, Runebelle watched in awe and concern.

Risebelle strained her system to the absolute limit. Her magical energy plummeted to 0% from full very gradually, and her system began issuing dire warnings:

"Magic reservoir depleted. Insufficient mana for this level of magic usage."

Risebelle, her face contorted with pain, ignored the warnings. She felt the static building up around her, and her body quivered from the intense strain. Blood seeped from her nose, but she continued to push herself.

The system messages grew more urgent:

"Warning: Magic reserves at -50%. Continued strain may lead to system malfunction and irreversible damage to the user."

Risebelle's vision blurred, and she could feel her body trembling uncontrollably, but she refused to back down. She had a goal, a purpose, and nothing would deter her now.

The system's final, desperate warning echoed in her mind:

"Critical error: Magic reserves at -100%. Immediate cessation of magical activity is required to prevent catastrophic system failure and user self-destruction."

Risebelle's body convulsed, and her vision faded momentarily, but she pushed herself beyond her limits. She wanted to see. She gained a blue light around her eyes allowing her to have temporary vision.

Risebelle was surrounded by a swirling aura of water. She called upon the full force of her power.

"Deluging Sea!"

Upon saying the words, a cataclysmic torrent of water mixed with acidic fury erupted from her, engulfing the battlefield in a massive deluge. The torrent surged with incredible force, forming a raging river of magic that swept everything in its path. The sheer power of the attack was overwhelming, and even the forest itself seemed to tremble in its wake.

Those unfortunate enough to be caught in the deluge were subjected to not only the physical force of the water but also the corrosive effects of the acid it contained. It was a devastating combination that inflicted severe damage and left her enemies struggling to escape the relentless currents.

Risebelle's glowing eyes blazed. She controlled the water with precision and directed its fury toward her foe. The battlefield had become a chaotic maelstrom, and Aliana found themselves drowning in despair, unable to break free from the unyielding grip of the Deluging Sea.

Aliana, her once-confident demeanor shattered by the overwhelming power of the Deluging Sea, gasped for words as the torrential onslaught camedown on her. Her icy aura flickered and faltered, and for a brief moment, she found herself submerged in the raging river of magic. She trembled with fear and disbelief as she uttered her final words before being swallowed by the Deluging Sea: “This... no, this is impossible!"

The Deluging Sea surged forth like a colossal wave, covering the entire battlefield in its watery embrace. Trees and rocks were submerged, and the once-dry ground became a submerged battleground.

Amidst the deluge, Aliana's screams of pain were drowned out by the rushing waters. Her body contorted as the acidic magic of Risebelle's attack seared her skin, causing her agony beyond imagination. Her sword, Kori Tengoku, became dull and corroded under the acidic onslaught.

Risebelle wasted no time. Despite the underwater chaos, she swiftly retrieved her cannon and began to fire precise shots into the turbulent waters. The shots were guided by her control over the Deluging Sea, homing in on Aliana's location within the submerged battlefield.

Runebelle watched in awe as her sister displayed a level of control and power that she had never witnessed before. “That’s…amazing…”

Aliana, her body still wracked with pain from the acidic water, desperately tapped into her Sword Magic once more,

“Sword Magic style. Kori Tengoku, level 2, Frostbite.”

With her power being unleashed, she willed her sword, Kori Tengoku, to regain its original color. The sword's icy aura returned. Aliana focused her magic on the surrounding acidic water. The temperature plummeted rapidly as she unleashed her Cryomancer abilities to freeze the turbulent waters. Crystalline ice began to form, encasing the corrosive liquid and slowing the constant damage it was causing to her.

Risebelle, watching the Cryomancer's efforts, knew that she couldn't let up. She continued to fire shots from her cannon, each one guided by her control over the Deluging Sea. The shots aimed for Aliana's vulnerable form, exploiting her distraction as she struggled to regain control over the battlefield.

Aliana's face contorted in pain and frustration momentarily before being replaced by anger. She thrusted her blade out and shouted through the chaotic waters,

"Sword Magic Style, Level 3: Absolute Frost Blade!"

The smile that had adorned Aliana’s face throughout the the battle vanished, replaced by an intense focus. Her icy aura surged, and the blade of Kori Tengoku began to emit an even colder and more formidable aura.

Aliana's mastery over her Sword Magic Style, now at Level 3, was evident as she swung Kori Tengoku in a sweeping arc before slamming it down with incredible force. The blade emitted a bone-chilling aura that extended outward in a powerful wave of ice.

The wave of ice collided with the Deluging Sea, causing a dramatic clash of elemental forces. Risebelle's torrential attack, fueled by her immense water and acid-infused magic, met the absolute frost of Aliana's Sword Magic.

The battlefield became a frozen battleground as the two opposing forces waged a ferocious battle. The Deluging Sea's waters were frozen in place, their corrosive power momentarily halted by Aliana's formidable abilities. Risebelle's cannon shots, too, were caught in the icy grip, suspended in mid-air.

Risebelle, realizing the dire situation, strained against the frozen onslaught. She summoned every ounce of her remaining magic to maintain control over her Deluging Sea and break through Aliana's defenses.

Aliana's Level 3 Sword Magic Style, "Absolute Frost Blade," continued to exert its overwhelming icy force despite Risebelle's efforts to control the Deluging Sea. The ferocious clash of magic and elements unfortunately proved too much for her to handle.

Risebelle found herself engulfed by the frigid wave of ice. Her body became encased in a crystalline prison, her blue hair frozen in place as if captured in time. She was completely immobilized, her powers stifled by the absolute frost.

The icy onslaught extended beyond Risebelle, spreading through the forest like a relentless glacier. Trees and vegetation were encased in a thick layer of ice, and the mages who had been retreating with the mana extractor found themselves in fear as the freezing wave surged dangerously close to them.

The mages who had been retreating with the mana extractor watched in terror as the icy wave of Aliana's Sword Magic Style, "Absolute Frost Blade," surged ever closer. Their faces contorted with fear as they realized the imminent danger that threatened to engulf them.

One of the mages exclaimed, "We're done for! There's no way we can escape this!"

Another mage with his hands trembling, muttered, "I never thought it would end like this. We were so close to getting the mana extractor out of here! Aliana…"

Another mage, more experienced and with a deep understanding of magic, recognized the depths of Aliana's power. "That's Sword Magic Level 3," he said, his with dread. "The range of her attack is incredible. We need to get out of here, or we'll be turned into ice statues! Let’s hurry!"

They couldn't even escape. They could only watch in horror as that area of the forest transformed into a frozen wasteland under Aliana's relentless magic.

After Aliana's devastating Sword Magic, the battlefield lay in disarray. The area where Risebelle had unleashed her Deluging Sea turned into a frozen wasteland, with trees and vegetation encased in thick ice. The ground became treacherous, and the retreating mages found themselves surrounded by the advancing glacier.

Aliana, her breath coming out in visible puffs of frosty air, looked around at the frozen landscape she had created with her Level 3 Sword Magic.

"It's a shame," she muttered between gasps for breath, "I didn't think I'd have to use my 3rd level of Sword Magic. You've pushed me further than I anticipated."

Despite her weariness, Aliana's eyes remained fixed on the crystalline prison containing Risebelle.

"Let's see if you can break free from this icy prison," Aliana added, her tone filled with a hint of challenge.

With the sheer force of her will, Risebelle shattered free from her icy prison, but her body was trembling and no longer looking correct. Her entire body dimmed and looked lifeless.

A System message flashed in her mind, its urgent warning displayed in stark red letters:

"Critical Danger Zone:

Magic Reserves: -101%

Life Force: 3%

Warning: Further exertion may result in permanent damage or destruction."

Risebelle stood, her body trembling and her once-bright blue hair now dull and lifeless. The toll of her powerful attack was painfully evident, and her eyes seemed devoid of life.

A smile spread across Aliana's face as she regarded her weakened opponent. "Well, well," she taunted, "It seems you're still alive, though barely. I must commend you for pushing me to use my 3rd level of Sword Magic, even if you are nothing more than a creation of that foolish doctor."

Aliana, her demeanor now curious, approached Risebelle with an air of superiority. She observed Risebelle's weakened state, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the damage.

"It appears your little display of power has left you in quite the predicament," Aliana remarked in a cold and mocking tone. "Your life force dwindles with every passing moment. I doubt you'll survive another round."

Aliana's gaze bore into Risebelle's weary eyes. "So, Risebelle, do you have any last words? Any final words you wish to share before your inevitable demise?"

Risebelle remained unresponsive, her body showing no signs of life. Her eyes faced the ground and she fell to her knees.

Runebelle, who had silently observed the fierce battle between her sister Risebelle and Aliana, suddenly felt a strange sensation on her cheek. Confusion washed over her as she reached up with trembling hands to touch her face. To her astonishment, her fingers came away wet.

Tears

‘What…what is this… tears? I can …still cry? Even though I’m not a human anymore?’ She murmured.

Tears streamed down Runebelle's cheeks as she whispered to herself, 'I can still feel... I can still care... Even though I'm not human anymore...'"

Runebelle prepared a healing shot with a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She had shed tears, a clear indication that her capacity for caring and empathy still existed despite her current body.

"I can still care about someone," Runebelle thought, her heart heavy with the realization. "And right now, the one I care about the most is Risebelle. She is my sister… and I know we haven’t had much time together, but this short amount of time I knew her, I’ve become so fond of her. I can't just stand by and watch her die."

Runebelle aimed the healing shot at her sister, hoping to provide her with the support she desperately needed.

Meanwhile, Aliana, disappointed that Risebelle had no last words, pointed her blade at her and shook her head

"Such a shame," Aliana muttered. "I expected to get more words from you, Risebelle other than ‘ungh.’, Perhaps my last attack managed to freeze your vocal cords. Oh well. “She shrugged “Perish in the icy embrace of Tengoku, the creation of that Foolish Dr. Kintovar.

Risebelle, struggling to stay conscious, summoned the last remnants of her strength. Her eyes, though dimming could still see figures and shapes. She coughed and soon a weak but defiant smile formed on her lips. “You know, Aliana…” she began sounding raspy , “You sure do like your icy embraces’ and to call us foolish… Did Dr. Kintovar... reject you that badly?”

Aliana’s face twisted with rage, her eyes narrowing. “You insolent–” she began, but Risebelle cut her off.

“One last thing, Aliana....When you get to hell, tell them Risebelle sent you. Oh, and don’t forget to mention how I nearly kicked your ass...”

Aliana's fury reached a boiling point. “Silence!” she screamed, raising her blade to strike the final blow. "So now you want to speak, you foolish fool? No. Perish instead!"

Runebelle fired off her healing shot towards Risebelle at the same time. Will her healing shot reach in time? The fate of the sister’s hangs in the balance.
