Chapter 678: Dilemma
Just as he said he would do, the king didn't push us further.
As for whether we could accept his invitation… Doing so was a major risk. We would be actively endangering ourselves, and I didn't know if the possible rewards were worth the risk. Thankfully, the event was happening only in a few months, so we had some time to deliberate. Furthermore, if Elvardia invades beforehand, the entire thing might get canceled. I imagine a warrior king like him would be leading the charge, not sitting at home on his throne.
Knowing 'tea time' was a weekly event for the pair, we said our goodbyes. Despite Felicity's insistence on us not being a bother, I could tell Aelxios wanted to spend his valuable time with her alone.
"Now that was most certainly a weird conversation," Aurora murmured before glancing back over her shoulder at me. "I'm sorry for speaking up all of a sudden, it was very reckless of me."
"Don't worry about it," I said, giving her lush platinum hair a few firm strokes of my hand. I truly couldn't fault this woman for having an outburst, it was on me for calling such an important person right after our orgy had concluded.
"Let's get Kaelira. Now that the final showdown is about to go down with the lionkin and their backers, we'll need her and her team to back us up. I would also rather not leave her behind because she'll be reduced to our Artificer if we don't let her gain XP."
Lucille was the one to smile at me with an extremely coy expression. "We'll leave her in the dust whether she gets to fight or not. Same with Iris and Lyra. Unless you splurty-splurty into their fertile wombs, their fall into irrelevancy is only a matter of time."
A grimace found its way to my features. I knew she was right. My lovers were enjoying a 3X boost to their XP gains thanks to my [Blessed Seed], which I had to refill their wombs with every 72 hours for the effects to remain. As a result, my allies who were not my lovers have been slowly getting left behind. My ladies were on their way to the level 30s, many of them have doubled their levels in the past few months. While Lyra, for example, only gained a few levels in that same time window.
She went from being out-leveled only by Seraphiel to being below even Lucille in levels, who started out as a combatant mere months ago. Though, to be fair, my caramel-haired Berserker-classed beauty might not be the best benchmark, considering her wild nature. She was a bit like Raika in that she loved to embrace a good challenge and jump into the fray.
Be that as it may, this was a conundrum that has been eating away at me ever since unlocking [Blessed Seed]. Considering the ability didn't allow artificial insemination, I would have to sleep with every single female subordinate of mine every three days to give them the chance to keep up with my lovers. That was what I should do if I wanted to maximize the power of my faction.
On the other hand, my heart hated that idea. I didn't want to sleep with random women, especially not with love Interests like Iris and Kaelira. If I had them sleep with me just to gain the XP boost and to stop their aging, I would feel utterly miserable.
Conquering the hearts of my lovers has been perhaps the most fulfilling memory of my life. Just remembering back to how Ayame was in the early days of our journey makes me smile from ear to ear when I compare that perpetually suspicious image of hers with what my eyes show me of her now. She might act a bit tsundere with me even today, but one look into her eyes is enough to tell me the truth.
We left the sex dungeon after collecting ourselves and taking a comfy bath thanks to my water powers to clean and fire powers to dry afterward.
However, before we could leave the main mansion and head to Kaelira's smithy, the serene visage of the Mooncaller welcomed us.
Well, I call it serene, but Sylvaris didn't seem all too happy right now.
The silver-haired bombshell began observing her daughter from head to toe. She then clicked her tongue before shaking her head strongly.
I couldn't help but snicker inwardly alongside Ayame, Lucille, and Aurora. Sylvaris' behavior was very clearly that of a mother who was strongly disapproving of her daughter's actions yet refused to say it out loud for whatever reason.
"What?" Seraphiel asked with a sigh, clearly coming to the same conclusion.
"I have no clue whatever you might mean."
"Mom, just say your grievances out loud, I'll never guess them."
"Never guess them…" Sylvaris snorted when repeated Sera's words with a strong distaste, after which she looked away. "I don't know, maybe I just don't approve of my daughter's actions who comes home from an active combat situation where her life was on the line multiple times, and the first thing she does is instead of greeting her deathly worried mother, she conducts a day-long orgy…"
"Oh…" Seraphiel muttered with a bit of guilt, realizing the errors of her ways.
"Oh indeed… And I couldn't even reach you with [Master's Link], would you like to explain yourself?"
Any semblance of guilt instantly evaporated from her features, letting us all know this prankster of a woman was only pretending when she replied with a big smile, "I asked Quin to block you from reaching me. How am I expected to conduct a day-long orgy while my mother is talking in my head? It would feel weird."
The serene beauty was not serene at all when her eyelids turned into fiery slits while conducting a fierce staredown with her daughter, who was curling her rich gold locks in her fingers slyly, refusing to apologize.
Instead, she did something worse. "You know, Mom, if you want to talk to me while I'm having sex, your best bet is to become one of Quin's lovers. It comes with many added perks, you should seriously think it through."
A wry smile was etched on my face when realizing she still had not given up on her efforts to have Sylvaris enter the harem. According to Sera's words, she couldn't bear the thought of her beloved mother dying, so this was the only logical option she saw in front of her.
Sylvaris' features turned darker at her words, not liking her daughter's lack of respect. To my dismay, this face of hers let me know she hadn't changed her mind about the topic.
Sensing that Seraphiel was about to receive some firm motherly guidance, I stepped in.
"Sylvaris, we've reached the final stretch of the beastkin expedition. How about you come with us? You can help your daughter and my girls if I had to distance myself to go all out. Your Mooncaller powers have the chance to reveal your identity because many people are aware of your class even in the human lands, but it's not like I bought you under my name. The twins bought you, and your whereabouts since the 'mysterious assault' on their vehicle have been unknown. I would prefer you to refrain from casting spells, but if I had to choose between losing any of my girls or dealing with the resulting headaches from your identity getting known, I know my choice."
Upon my words, her features immediately transformed to that of utmost joy. "I would be glad to accompany you."
"Haaah…" Sera sighed theatrically once again, though it was a playful one this time around, best evidenced by her merry giggling when Sylvaris reached out to pinch her cheeks between her fingers as if she were a severely rude daughter who needed to be taught a lesson.
With that done, we moved toward the courtyard in search of Kaelira.
But as soon as we stepped out of the mansion, a commotion could be heard. The five elven sentries whom I tasked with the Geim's protection were shouting threats.
"Back off slowly!"
"We'll shoot!"
We rushed to the scene, and it was my time to sigh defeatedly.
I knew it was a possibility, but…
"Lady Yoruha, Lady Celeste. You honor my home with your presence, though I must admit, I wasn't prepared to receive such distinguished guests. Might I know the reason behind your visit?"
