Primordial Monarch: Apocalyptic Evolution

Chapter 1: And it Started

Shibuya, Japan

In a convenience store, a young teenager around the age of 17 and 18 years, stood behind the counter while reading through a novel in his hand.

His eyes would divert to the monitor which displayed the ongoings in the store through the CCTV camera at different spots of the store.

He yawned as he closed the book.

"Zenn, come to my office" A hoarse voice called out from the door at the extreme end of the store.

The boy shook his head as he watched the last customer walk out of the entrance door. Zenn walked towards the door and closed it. He then turned around and walked towards the door where the voice had called him from. On the door was a plaque which had the word "Boss Room" on it.

Zenn knocked on the door before he opened the door and walked in. The office was not big, it was just perfect according to his aesthetics. There was a shelf of books at the corner, beside the shelf were some stacked carton of something Zenn didn't know about.

There was a L-shaped sofa in the middle with a glass table before it. Behind the sofa, was an office desk and behind it sat a chubby man with a small face.

No matter how many times Zenn looked at his boss, he always found him creepy and for some reason today that he was alone with him right now, his left eyelids could not stop twitching.

"My dear Zen, I called you here today to actually give you a task to complete for me..." The chubby man said.

"A task?"

The chubby man nodded, "it's nothing much, I just want you to pick up my niece from the train station ten blocks away"

"Oh... Alright, boss Taka" Zen agreed immediately.

"Good, I knew I could count on you, her name's Sakura and I'll be sending her picture to your phone so you don't miss her when you get there" Boss Taka said as he fumbled with his phone for a while before putting it down.

Zen felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, he brought it out and looked at the message his boss had sent him, download the image, his eyes widened as he looked at the picture and looked back at his boss.

They are like totally different, how can he have a niece as beautiful as this?

Feeling Zen's gaze, Boss Taka felt offended," Just because I look like this, doesn't mean everyone in my family is like that... Now get out and go do what I tell you"

" Yes, yes" Zen nodded as he escaped out of the room with a sly smile.

Few minutes later.

Zen stood in front of the station as he kept looking at the crowd of people and back at his phone.

"What's holding her up, that's the tenth bus that had arrived and she isn't on any of them!",he whined as he pressed his hand between his brows.

"Uhm.. excuse me, Zen... Zen-san? " a sultry voice called from beside him. Zen turned around and looked, he was stunned again.

" Sakura?"

The girl nodded and sighed with relief, Zen just stood with his arms crossed while his left hand caressed his chin as he examined the girl before him.

Saying she's beautiful was an understatement for the girl in front of him, she looked like a goddess from the legends, with auburn hair, hazel brown eyes, an hourglass figure coupled with her plump chest and buttocks, she was literally every guy's dream girl.

"Over 10" Zen said unconsciously.

" Eh? "Sakura titled her head to the side in confusion which made her look cute making Zen suffer some damage as he apologized.

" Anyway, where are your stuffs? "He asked to switch the awkward atmosphere.

" I didn't bring anything, I've dropped all my stuffs at my dorm, I just came around to see my uncle before I resume fully tomorrow " Sakura said with a shrug.

" Oh... Shall we? " Zen said as he wanted to hail a taxi but Sakura stopped him saying she wanted to walk there.

Zen was confused by her thoughts but still obliged.

He didn't know that Sakura had a slight phobia of the opposite sex. Boss Taka didn't tell him either.

Sakura wanted to be close to Zen because he had a scent on him that did not make her feel afraid of being with him. She had understood that Zen was scoring her body aesthetics when he had said over 10, and it unconsciously made her happy.

As she walked behind him as he led the way, she watched his back with a relaxed smile on her face.

"I guess, it's going to rain..." Zen said as he turned to look at the girl behind who seem startled by his gaze, she blushed and looked at her feets as they walked.

Zen rose an eyebrow before he shrugged, "...we need to pick up pace, it seems it would rain soon"

Sakura looked up at the sky, the sky was taking on an unusual darker shade not normal for when it's about to rain. "Is it me, or is the sky darkening, kind of eerie? "

Hearing her words, Zen acknowledged "I'm with you on this, so we better get indoors first, so let's pick up pace, the store is just a block away"

As Zen and Sakura turned towards the street of where the store was located, there was a clap of thunder followed by earth tremors. Zen grabbed Sakura's hand and held unto a lamp pole. He watched as to cars crashed into each other, and several other accidents happening.

The situation happened for about five minutes before everywhere restored its calm, and the sky brightened again.

"Let's move, I'm getting a bad feeling the more we stay out here, the store is just ahead" Zen said as he ran towards the store while pulling Sakura behind him.

Sakura looked at the people who were looking around with confusion about the sudden commotion, then she saw as a few of people's pupils turned red and they all pounced on those that were close to them, biting off some flesh from whatever they could. Everywhere descended into chaos as the ones that were still normal ran for their lives.

Sakura was relieved as she had noticed that the person that was standing by her when the tremor happened was eating away at the flesh of a young woman.

Zen pushed the door of the store open and rushed in before he closed the door and bolted it. Some of the people who had changed and were around the store turned their necks stiffly at the direction of the store before they walked unhurriedly towards the entrance.

Zen's heart beat widly in his chest as he stared at those inhumans, they couldn't be called humans anymore.

"It's the apocalypse..." Sakura muttered and Zen looked at her.

"... I thought it only happened in novels, I can't believe I'm experiencing one now"

"... I wonder if there's a system?" Zen mouthed a question not expecting a reply.

[To access the system, survive the onslaught of a level 1 aberrant, Taka]

[Higher reward if you can kill it]

[Penalty: Death]

Zen and Sakura looked at each other as their eyes reflected the same stunned look. A growl was heard from the corner of the store. Turning their heads to look, their eyes widened even more.
