Chapter 58: Working Together With Amira...
Kranos was speechless for a moment. He had no words to retort, as that was essentially true. He'd heard how, ten years ago, the creature was barely in the Golden Core realm. Sure, he would increase in strength in a short span of ten years, but wouldn't it be the same for the creature?
He immediately changed the topic. "Do you know the whereabouts of the demon?"
Amira shook her head. "I have only been here for about six months. I had to do many preparations before coming, so I am not privy to much information."
"In that case, you should head back. I will continue the impersonation for you," Kranos said with a smile.
"That won't be possible," Amira immediately disagreed. Seeing Kranos frowning, she explained, "Every week, Ko usually checks if this Gu worm is still present within our body. If it isn't, the person is immediately killed." As she spoke, she took off her mask, revealing a Gu worm trapped at the mouthpiece.
He couldn't help but give the lady a second glance, his frown deepening. This complicated things. Thankfully, he encountered Amira. If he had rashly impersonated another person, he wouldn't have known how his identity would be exposed.
Kranos immediately began thinking of countermeasures, but he could only come up with one. His gaze turned to Amira. Even though she could be considered a beauty, with dark blue hair tied into a bun and a slight dimple, Kranos didn't dwell on her beauty. After all, he was a reincarnated old man; how could he be lusting after a little girl old enough to be his granddaughter?
"Why don't we work together?" he suggested. Although it seemed like a suggestion, Amira could feel that the moment she misspoke, she wouldn't have the chance to say any last words before she died.
She immediately agreed with Kranos's suggestion. Th+is& c^onte&nt. was fi.r$st r^el*eas#e%d^ on M&V_#LE*M^PY.R.
"I will come to meet you every night around this time, so be available. Aside from that, throughout the day, I will be watching your movements. If you do anything out of line, don't blame me for being ruthless!" As Kranos spoke, he faintly revealed his Golden Core pressure, causing Amira to feel as though she was standing before the vast heavens and could be destroyed with just a gust of wind.
Her face rapidly turned pale. Kranos nodded then retracted his pressure. Amira's face regained its color as she heavily panted. Although she couldn't see the face beneath Kranos's mask, she could faintly feel that his silvery eyes were like daggers that had imprinted themselves into her heart and could destroy her at any time. She immediately shivered at the thought.
"How did you plan to deal with the creature before?" Kranos asked, changing the topic.
At this, Amira's face immediately blossomed into a smile. Something that seemed like a small orb materialized in her hand. Glancing at it, Kranos felt his lips twitch. Isn't this a grenade? The orb looked quite similar to a grenade, except for the fact that it had no pin.
"This is mine and Master's latest invention before she died. It's called a mana bomb. By infusing mana into this bomb, one can trigger it at will…" Reaching this point, she stared at Kranos before saying, "I have also placed these all over my tent in case my life is in danger."
She looked at the calm gaze underneath the mask as though she was waiting for a change in his expression, but Kranos continued to stare at her expressionlessly. She didn't know Kranos was no ordinary young man, as he possessed the time ability and could escape her dangerous trap in the nick of time.
Seeing that Kranos didn't have any fear towards her mana bombs, she continued explaining, "These mana bombs are infused with Master's mana and have strength at the late stage Golden Core realm. When I reached where that demon is, I wanted to try tossing a couple at it before running away."
Kranos listened calmly. As soon as he heard her last words, he couldn't help but shake his head wryly. "Did you forget about its seemingly immortal body?" He wasn't sure before, but now he had confirmed that this lady was truly courting death. Kranos then proceeded to advise her on how to gain more information and access where the Gu worm was staying.
He also advised her on some inconsistencies he noticed about her behavior as a man. Previously, he didn't think too much about them, but upon realizing that it was actually a lady, he decided to inform her about it. After Kranos was done speaking, he vanished in a gust of wind.
As soon as Kranos vanished, Amira immediately slumped onto her bed, seemingly tired. She touched her mask and muttered in a low voice, "Master, thank you for protecting me…"
Kranos appeared outside the tent. What he had expected to be a smooth impersonation turned out to be something else. At least he got a helper. Although Kranos didn't like the idea of trusting people and preferred to do things himself, he knew that he had no choice in this case.
Kranos rushed back to the tree where he was hiding before and decided to continue cultivating. While he was cultivating, he soon realized that it was morning. He stood up for a bit and stretched his body. At this moment, Kranos could faintly feel that sooner or later, he would grasp the third strand of time essence. He just needed to be patient and meditate more.
With this, he glanced towards the mountain range. He could see Amira had already gotten out of her tent and was associating with a couple more black-clothed figures. This was exactly what Kranos asked her to do; through associating, she could gain valuable information from seemingly small gossips.
Kranos noticed that her voice had returned to that of a man. He immediately realized that it was probably the work of the mask from the previous night. He stared at Amira for a while and after noticing that there was nothing wrong, Kranos returned to cultivating.
