Pretending to Be an Untouchable Crime Boss

Chapter 266: It is... different.

Now, the silence between them was the kind where both knew exactly what caused it, and it almost felt like a bad joke, even though it wasn't.

"White magic is used by doctors of course, not this format of it, but it works too. If you take a little of it, it will not pump up your heart but rather slow it down, putting you in this euphoria-like feeling and also helping to relax. You're not going to be high or drugged up, but just chill, like if it was greenweed." Mike explained as he held the bag closer. "Just trust me, James. I know what I am talking about."

Well, Mike looked determined to help and like someone who was telling the truth. But still, taking white magic right before meeting his family, especially after just having a panic attack, was absurd. Still… if it really worked, then everything would be easier… and Mike was a doctor.

Even though none of it made sense in James's mind, he reached out, dipped his pinky, and did it… placed it under his tongue.

The first thing he felt was the pain as his mouth had a little cut inside, but after that nothing. So he just sat there waiting while Mike was looking at his watch and holding James's hand for the pulse.

"It was fast. Five minutes and your pulse is already getting low." He said as he let out of his hand.

"Tell me, Mike… is it healthy to get—"

"Nah, it's actually dangerous, though it worked." Mike laughed, interrupting James as he helped him up. "And you're alive, so don't worry, boss." He finished, slapping his back.

Well, James didn't say anything and was kinda surprised that Mike was fucking experimenting on him, while he had a total meltdown.Though it worked. Truly worked, as now he started to feel it, this euphoria, as the thing became more clear, more focused around him.

Mike was right about it, and he was the only one in the family who actually knew about it, about the white magic medicinal use. The drug has been around for a long time now, long enough for people to experiment with it and realize that it actually works as a relaxation medicine, cardiac medicine, for blood pressure, and for a lot of things… though the twist of it is that it came from the plant of the white magic, mixed up with other drugs and medicines in a laboratory environment with professionals under a lot of rules and a small amount of it, and not from straight sniffing or putting it under the tongue.

Though Mike read a lot about it and how they made it and how it can work… with little worry that doctor rarely using it, because the smallest mistake can be deadly and of course it expensive as fuck. But Mike is a genius, or well, he tipped the right amount for James, and second, even if the drug is called 'pure' it doesn't mean it's not diluted, it just means it's not mixed up with other drugs, and didn't lace it with some bullshit… and what bad could happen?

Like James fainting, maybe his heart stopping, or the second one is getting a little bit high on it… though as they walked out of the terminal, none of it seemed to become true, as he started acting like himself again, even his skin color came back and looked much better.

"Are you good, boss?" Arine immediately asked as they were there so long in that room and well, his suit was bloodied… once again.

"Of course I'm good, what happened here, did they say something?" He asked back as he finally wiped it off and noticed everybody was staring at him.

"Nothing really, just a standoff without any threat or anything happening." Arine answered. "Well, we weren't a threat to them, that's for sure." He laughed as nobody had a weapon on them and they were facing fucking fully stacked soldiers.

"Then good, we don't pick a fight, nor they. That's a good beginning, isn't it?" He asked as he made his steps toward the exit finally, but now everybody sensed that something was off, moreover Arine as he looked at Mike, and he was just shaking his head.

His steps were slow and almost looked like a penguin's. Not to mention, some blood was still dripping from the cane onto the floor, which few people standing around noticed, but nobody really seemed to care about it too much, and well they didn't care about it too, because it was James, and he always had something on his mind. Why would they question it when he was still alive and looking fine?

A little blood was nothing, nor was the way he walked, everyone knew his leg still hurt.

"Do we have a car waiting, boss?" One of the bodyguards asked, and it was a good question, and James had the answer for it as he stopped right before the door and looked to the side at him.

"No, we will catch a bus or taxi to the embassy. It is a surprise after all, we need to be invisible." He said as he turned back and tapped his cane as he finally made it outside of the terminal, into again the heat, but at least now he was really looking at Maraci.

Moreover, he was looking at the capital of it, Sarnov, and it was really the complete opposite of what he thought he would see. James and, well, everybody thought the same, Maraci gotta be a sandy city, with the beige color or popping red, maybe whiter, to repel the heat, that there is sand everywhere… like just straight cliché thoughts, but it was the complete opposite of it.

There were plants… so many plants. Trees, hedges, everything you could imagine. It looked beautiful, beyond what either of them had expected… It felt like a city built in a garden, or more like a little jungle. Buildings were covered in vines, surrounded by flower trees, it just looked peaceful, and even the air was just clean.

And now, he kind of understood why Darvik told him to take a look… to enjoy Maraci.
