Chapter 230: Punks.
James froze down by the question a little, because, what the fuck is this?
Asking this question out of nowhere, and well, he knew he fucked up once again, and was frustrated by it. Every time he goes somewhere, something is going to happen, something outrageous will be done or said by people he doesn't even give a single fuck about.
Yeah, they always fuck up his plans.
"Gangster?" He asked back.
"Yeah, you look like one." Now Eva spoke, and James immediately noticed the difference in her tone, he could hear she was the type of girl who was born with a golden spoon in her ass, her whole demeanor was like just a rich girl, even her voice carried that.
James looked to the side toward the doctor and she was frozen down, and that was the time he noticed that something was going on, because she was visibly a little scared or worried, but why the fuck would she be the one that's stressing when she is the doctor and they are the patients.
But James couldn't really go around the question, so what he did was not answer but asked back.
"Why would I be a gangster?" He looked at Eva, who was still just smirking at him.
"Your ear's missing a piece, and you're limping." Niam spoke again. "But the signet ring too, I don't see businessmen wearing one, especially not with a capital letter on it, so it has a meaning."
"Well, I like the ring, and the B means blessing. As for my ear and leg, I was injured during a car crash." He answered fast, but they weren't looking like they believed him.
"To me it looks like you got shot." Eva said. "That piece missing from your ear exactly looks like a bullet went through it."
They were really pushing the idea that he was a gangster, and well, it was true, but still, if he says it, he's fucked. But still, it bothered him that the doctor didn't even bother to intervene or say something. The situation was something else, like kinda unbelievable that they're in the middle of a therapy session and he's being pressured by two fucking teenagers and the experienced doctor saying nothing.
"And what if I am a gangster?" James now asked, lowering his voice a little and staring at them, like changing the situation, they were the two who became the ones being questioned rather than him.
And they felt the change, it was quick and they didn't even first understand the situation, only felt that Scott or well James sitting in front of them really was something else. His whole demeanor, expression, changed and the most noticeable, those eyes that were staring at them were different.
Exactly like the eyes of someone who lost a lot and took a lot. There was no mistake, he was not a legitimate businessman. But it wasn't just them, even the doctor felt it, she actually noticed it earlier that this isn't going to be a good session, because the small signs on James weren't no sign of a business but more like a fucking killer.
She noticed his hand movement, his calm demeanor, like he was calmer when he walked in, like he was finally put in his comfort zone by them asking that question, and those eyes, yeah she saw many eyes through the years, soldiers, firefighters, those people who saw a lot and experienced a lot, but none of them had eyes not even close as him.
It was different in every way, it was the eyes of a lost man, a man who lost a lot, and fought a lot, a man who was suffering under his own weight and decisions. A broken man, who didn't just come here to sit idly but really needed and wanted help… help that he is not going to be able to get while those two are here.
"If you are a gangster then we are enemies…" Niam said and his voice too turned into one that was threatening, like he wanted to put pressure on him.
"And if we are enemies… you are going to regret every single moment of it." Eva finished as she sat up, kinda reaching from her waist and Niam was doing the same, but well the reaction from James wasn't the one that they wanted.
He was laughing his ass off as he heard it, like literally was laughing like even a teardrop came from his eyes as he was trying to control it. Like what the fuck was this?
It sounded like a B-category movie bad script, like the low-budget villains who want to have a good scene together to seem like an untouchable force but the most funny in it was the two of them not even 21 years old, like they have baby faces and not even a scar on it, not even a fucking little dot on it.
They were exactly the ones who were hiding behind something, and that something was usually their parents' legacy, fame and influence… even their name told it.
But they didn't really like the way James just laughed the fuck out of himself in front of them, and one more fact that they didn't like was even the doctor chuckled, but she had her own reason for it that they once again didn't notice.
She was nervous and stressed, she was trying to match and cope with James, because in her eyes not Eva and Niam were the dangerous ones, but James. She spent years studying this and one thing that she knew is how to make a difference between acting and real-time reactions, and James's reaction was real, the laugh was real and came from deep, and the most important thing is what he was laughing about.
They threatened him, it was a straight threat to him by those two, and still he didn't feel that he is a person to be scared to be threatened, no he laughed in their face… and only those type of people can do something like this who are threat themselves, who have stepped through that fine line, where they don't even care, and second, why would they care where they are the one holding the gun even if it's invisible, yeah they are the threat.
But while she was thinking about that, and while James was laughing, Niam and Eva were already had their gun in their hands, yeah and it was clear that they weren't no criminals, weren't no gangsters just wannabe punks, because a real gangster isn't threatening no one, doesn't want to put pressure on others when he just came here to talk out his problem, a real gangster doesn't want to be known in a group, a real gangster doesn't want to stand out in front of others.
But they did with now gun in their hands… and judging by their eyes and expression they felt disrespected by the laugh of him.
On the other hand James was not really impressed by the gun, how could he be impressed when they clearly had the intent to threaten him more with it, that their finger was on the trigger even though the safety was still on, over the fact that their pistols were shiny, was like one that Mike and Hector has that has engraving on them, but not even a scratch, not even a single bit of using on them.
"You two got offended by a little laugh?" James asked as he looked at the pistol then up to them, and they literally looked like wolves that were ready to hunt, but at the same time they were just sheep in wolf clothing.
Niam's hands were shaking a bit, while Eva didn't even have a proper grip on the weapon.
Even though James is not a gunslinger, he could easily kill both of them, before they could've switched off the safety.
"You seem to not know who we are…" Eva's low voice came.
How cringe is it…
"Imagine you need to introduce yourself and still I don't give a fuck about it." James said and that was the moment Niam raised his pistol up now aiming at James's chest.
Huh, should I feel something… it's strange… He thought as he looked at it, but he wasn't sweating nor he feared it because the safety was still on, and Niam seemed to not know about that little fact, like he never even shot with that gun, or even knew how to operate it.
"We are from the Braccachi family!" He shouted and it seemed like the situation was now really going out of control.
"Braccachi?" James asked back because he genuinely had no idea who the fuck are them.
"We are the ones who control the drug market!" Niam shouted again, who knows why maybe to show how badass they are… but it was a lie of course it was.
Because the man who's controlling it is the one he was aiming the weapon at.
