Power System, System?!?

Chapter 5: Chapter 4 – System and Past

Ranks, Rates, Summons and... Spins?

I LOVE IT.

This isn't as OP or broken as I expected, but even so, this system seems perfect!

[MONSIEUR? You zoned out in the middle of the explanation...]

"Oh yeah, right, right. Continue."

I tried to lower my enthusiasm after hearing the robotic tone of the system.

{The main feature is the connection to omnipotence itself-all powers that exist or not, and all their rules or lack thereof. But such ability can't be given freely like that, so it was made into an endless and infinite system of summons. One you are very familiar with.}

While the robotic voice explained, the system changed in front of my vision. It morphed into what seemed like a summoning banner from a gacha game, yet it didn't hold any flashy characters or items.

Only a bar labeled "Summon" and a counter showing the amount of "spins" in the top left corner: zero, for now.

"A bit... lackluster... For something connected, and I quote, to 'omnipotence,' this seems rather simple."

Honestly, I was excited anyway. The chance to pull out any power? Now I understood why the gods needed someone lucky.

[It's not as simple as you think, monsieur.]

Ah yes, the party killer, once again.

The cube and its white-lined eyes gave me a small glare while I rolled mine.

[It is connected to omnipotence, but it won't simply grant you anything too far above your level. This system is first and foremost connected to your existence and the power within it.]

"And... what about it? I can't pull anything too strong then?"

[Well... not really, but-]

"Then it's all in game~ sounds perfect~"

While I played with the nerves of the divine cube, the system itself spoke again, cutting my words.

{The probability is decided by your level of overall power and so what each rank would contain too.}

Stopping the banter, I turned my attention back to the system, watching a new window appear beside it as ten letters popped up, from lowest 'D' to highest 'EX,' each with a description.

{Rank D: Anything below your current level of power. It ranges from slightly below to completely useless or even harmful to yourself, potentially helping the enemy. The limits of this rank are indefinite.}

"What I absolutely don't want. Got it."

{Rank C: Everything at your level. Abilities considered around your current strength. Even if you're a fighter, a fire spell from a wizard with similar strength is valid.}

"Interesting. My common, huh? Sounds nice."

{Rank B: Slightly above your level. If you're a mediocre boxer, you might pull abilities of someone above average.}

"Fair enough."

{Rank A: A whole level above yours. From an average wizard to a veteran in battle magic. A+ is slightly above A—not just a veteran, but one with expertise, like fire magic.}

"Oho~ that's the one I want to pull normally~"

{Ranks S, SS, and SSS: Extremely above your level in exponential scales. May include A-tier abilities without A-tier limitations. No chanting, no delay. SSS+ is like A+ but at SSS level-best in the moment but much rarer.}

"I see. Sounds like a game to me... but there's one rank left, no?"

{EX rank: Like D, but in the opposite direction. Anything above SSS+ to infinitely greater.}

"So in the EX tier could be something like... 'Multiversal Bomb' or something?"

{Yes, but as explained, the higher and rarer the ability, the lower its probability in the EX rank-same goes for D.}

Then, flashing in my eyes, the window changed and displayed the pull chances:

Rank / Probability

C / 61.05 %

B / 20.35 %

A / 10.17 %

A+ / 5.09 %

S / 1.70 %

SS / 0.85 %

SSS / 0.42 %

SSS+ / 0.21 %

D / 0.11 % to infinity

EX / 0.05 % to infinity

It seemed fair, especially with D being the second-lowest.

"Also, about the pulls, how do they work? Do I keep them forever or...?"

[It's limited, monsieur. Each pull comes with its own set (or lack) of rules. Could be time-based or usage-based. Nothing is permanent.]

So much for stacking powers and pulling out summons whenever I wanted. More like an ace up the sleeve.

[Which is why nurturing your own potential is so important, monsieur. Pulls get better as you do, and there will be battles where spinning isn't even an option. That's why I'm here-to guide you through the best paths and help nurture your skills, within my limits.]

"Right... anything else? Some kind of status window or...?"

{There is no way to level up using the system. You can only grow through proper training and effort.}

"Bleh, fine. Not as OP or easy as I wanted."

Standing up and stretching my arms and back, I couldn't help but think:

'Yeah, there's no shortcut to getting stronger... but I have a chance to pull absolutely anything. Fair trade.'

Turning to the system once more, I asked:

"Any extra info left?"

{Your bio and full data, including any abilities already within you, will appear once your memories reconnect.}

[Yes, and I already marked this inn as a safe point. The moment you sleep, the connection will start.]

"Then... see you guys later. Time for a nap."

---

Warmth.

Like being held.

A familiar hand holding my smaller, younger body. We were moving—running from something.

Then I saw her.

A woman with short, bronze-brown hair, yellow eyes, and ears like mine. More fur, less human. My mother.

"I'm so sorry, sweetie. I can't stay anymore. Bad people—people who want to hurt you—are following us because of me."

She caressed my head while I clung to her arm.

I remember the pain in my chest, the tears.

She was bleeding, no father in sight. Her voice tried to comfort me.

"Stay here. If your father doesn't come back... you'll survive. I know you will. Like when we played in the forest together. I trust you."

One last kiss. She whispered something and my vision faded.

---

Next memory.

Older. Late teens.

Hunting red rabbits. Watching travelers. Always hiding.

No one came.

No father. No help.

Whatever I was, it mattered. My existence mattered. More than just a chosen by the gods.

And people hunted me and my parents for it.

Again, the memories faded, and I fell into deep sleep.

---

Morning.

Birds.

Steps on the wooden stairs.

A voice: "Hey, demi-human. Breakfast downstairs in fifteen minutes. Ask Lily."

Sounded like an older man, probably the owner of the inn and father of the receptionist.

"Got it."

Three days of food and shelter thanks to the wolf. More than enough to find income.

Looking at myself:

"Yeah... I need new clothes."

Descending the stairs.

Not the worst outfit, leftovers i got from a merchant caravan while being raided by bandits. Passable.

Looking at the receptionist. Lily, I guess.

"Hey~ Li-"

"Take a seat and wait. I'll bring it soon."

Cold glare. Guess she didn't like the "sweetheart" from yesterday.

'System.'

No one reacted. Good.

'Profile.'

The system morphed.

[You really are lucky. I can't believe it.]

Name: Rex

Age: 18

Height: 195 cm

Race: Perfect Hybrid (Demi-human Lion and Human)

Race Trait: Mythic Beast

Racial Abilities:

No Downsides: As a perfect hybrid, you developed fully between two races without drawbacks, only strengths.

Physically Blessed: A powerful body with potential to master mana and beast-man traits to their best.

???

???

???

Now that's what I'm talking about!

Mythic beast, huh?

'Lovely guide, care to explain~'

[Now you call me guide?! Hmph. Among beast-men, one may be born a Beta, Alpha, or Omega. Beta is common, Alphas lead, Omegas are often seen as failures... but rarely, one beyond Alpha is born-a Mythic Beast. The pinnacle of beast-kind.]

'Best of the best, huh? Damn... I really am lucky.'

With this new information~

Things were about to get much more interesting...

But first, I need new clothes.
