Chapter 4: 4
Link felt the tension rise as he moved through the cruise ship.
Although surveillance in this world wasn't advanced, it was hard to believe there wouldn't be pirates or Marine Team members patrolling the corridors.
The battle had resumed, with both sides regrouping throughout the ship and clashing in the cabin.
Link did his best to stay hidden, narrowly avoiding detection several times by soldiers or team members.
Luckily, the chaos kept their focus elsewhere, allowing him to slip by unnoticed.
The real danger came from the Gazimon ' sharp noses… and his own lack of familiarity with the ship's layout. After all, he had been kidnapped upon arrival—how could he possibly remember the routes?
In desperation, Link checked the [Free Battle] rewards in his system. Pokomon's efficiency had increased, and he'd accumulated over a thousand bits. He immediately invested them into Perception.
With heightened senses, he could hear hurried footsteps from as far as ten meters away.
He silently thanked the system. It wasn't perfect, but it was proving useful now.
Using his enhanced perception, Link moved more cautiously, preemptively avoiding enemies.
While searching for a storage room, Link overheard someone speaking on the phone in a nearby room.
"What's going on? Got it... Understood… Alright, I'll head to the deck now!"
Link immediately pinpointed the source of the voice using his heightened hearing. He slipped into the room opposite, waiting for the Marine Team member to leave.
Sure enough, the door opened, and a team member in uniform, complete with a headscarf and Poké Balls on their belt, hurried out.
Link's gamble had paid off.
Acting quickly, Link smashed the back of the team member's head with his Divine Plan device.
"Ah!"
The first strike staggered them, and a second hit knocked them out cold, sending the Marine Team member into an unconscious, baby-like slumber.
Thankfully, the people of this world were resilient, and the blows didn't cause serious harm. Otherwise, Link might've worried about being accused of excessive self-defense.
Just as he sighed in relief, an angry bark erupted from inside the room—a furious Coyote Dog had realized its trainer had been attacked.
Even criminals in this world formed strong bonds with their Pokémon, Link noted grimly, except for those they treated as commodities.
Link had no intention of fighting the Coyote Dog head-on. As soon as he spotted the Poké Ball magnetically attached to the trainer's belt, he snatched it.
The Coyote Dog lunged at him, teeth bared, but before it could land a bite, Link activated the Poké Ball. A red light enveloped the dog, pulling it back inside with an unwilling growl.
Without pausing to celebrate his successful sneak attack, Link dragged the unconscious Marine Team member into the room, relieved that no one else had noticed the commotion.
Bad news: The room wasn't a storage area.
Good news: It contained supplies, including an elf egg in a transparent incubator. The egg was golden-white with bright red patterns.
Newborn Pokémon could fight, sure—but could they take on trained Coyote Dogs?
Weighing the Poké Ball in his hand, Link couldn't help but think he wasn't like those overpowered protagonists who relied on cheat codes.
Wait… wasn't he technically one of them?
The simulator's main advantage was supposed to be intelligence. Yet here he was, with none, reduced to grinding for progress. It felt like someone in the multiverse had maliciously placed him in this scenario.
"Well," Link muttered, kicking the unconscious Marine Team member. "I don't know if this Pokémon egg is yours, but I'm taking it for emergency shelter. Don't blame me."
As he considered his next move, Link noticed the Marine Team member's uniform was roughly his size.
After a moment's hesitation, he changed into the uniform.
"It's hideous. Shui Wutong really has no sense of aesthetics," he grumbled.
Still, it would help him blend in and avoid detection.
He tied up the Marine Team member with bedsheets and searched their belongings.
Loot acquired:
4396 Pokédollars
A waist bag
A bunch of mysterious keys
A walkie-talkie
10 Poké Balls
A potion bottle
3 bags of teething sticks
A dim Rock Badge
Food and water
"The emblem of Kanaz City?" Link chuckled. A Marine Team member with a badge from a gym known for its knowledge? How ironic.
Suddenly, the Rock Badge in the bag emitted heat and vibrations.
Curious, Link opened the waist bag and saw the Divine Plan glowing brightly.
"Does stealing someone else's badge count? But this isn't my badge, right?"
The device ignored his complaints. The Rock Badge shattered as the Divine Plan absorbed its energy.
In its place, a phantom Knowledge Badge, sky-blue and glowing, appeared in mid-air before merging with the Divine Plan.
Link's spirit resonated with the badge, as if unlocking new potential.
The process wasn't over. The golden-white elf egg in the incubator began to glow, reacting to the Divine Plan.
The egg's life force flared, heating the nutrient solution inside. It pulsed with emotions:
I want to be born. I want to see the world. I want to run in the warm sunshine.
Golden light radiated from the egg, intertwining with the Divine Plan's azure glow.
The incubator cracked under the strain, the egg's shell fracturing. Flames burst through the cracks—golden and white, symbolizing the spark of life.
Link squinted, eager to witness the miracle of birth.
With a final burst of energy, the egg and incubator shattered.
Before him stood a canine Pokémon, less than half a meter tall, with golden fur, jade-white markings, and fiery red ears.
