Chapter 88: The Day of Cerulean Gym's Disaster

Upon hearing Green's words, the Gym staff first froze, then panicked.

Cerulean Gym had undergone evaluations before.

But in the past, they barely managed to pass thanks to Misty's strength, the Gym's long-standing connections, and its massive influence in Cerulean City.

But… Misty had gone off traveling!

And as for the remaining three Gym Leaders… their strength was obvious, given how many challengers lined up every day.

The staff member didn't dare say it out loud, but everyone understood.

There was no way they were passing this evaluation.

Seeing the hesitation, Asahi subtly signaled to the elite auditors behind him. They stepped forward with polite but firm requests:

"Please provide records of all Gym battles and badge distributions from the past year."

"Retrieve archived battle footage for verification."

"We need to audit the allocation of League funding for the Gym. Please provide the relevant financial records."

"And… all Gym Trainers must report for evaluation."

After they finished speaking, the lead auditor gave Asahi a slight nod.

Asahi then turned to the trembling staff and spoke in a calm tone, "Please don't worry. This evaluation is being conducted under my full authority. Everything will be fair, just, and transparent. The entire process is being recorded."

He gestured toward a League official holding a camera.

The staff followed his gaze. The auditor holding the camera even smiled back at them.

"....."

I'd rather you be unfair and biased.

Quick! Someone call the Gym Leaders! Whether it's persuasion, bribery, or even seduction—just don't let Cerulean Gym shut down!

She had a Seel at home to feed—she couldn't afford to lose this job!

Before she could finish speaking, she noticed the secretary-like girl who had been sitting on the sofa stand up with an expression that seemed to say, I've been waiting for you. Smiling, she looked at them and said:

"You must be the Cerulean Gym Trainers, the Sensational Sisters?"

Under Green's gaze, the three sisters instinctively nodded.

"The auditing work should be left to the professionals. Since you're here, we can proceed with the next evaluation."

"What evaluation...?" The second sister, Lily, already had a bad feeling.

"Of course, the most important Gym Trainer competency assessment." Green stated matter-of-factly. "After all, this is the key indicator for evaluating Gym Trainers."

The Sensational Sisters: "..."

Would it have been better if they had just played dead?

---

Playing dead wasn't an option.

The League's assessment team had already arrived. If they tried to hide, they might not even need an audit—their gym qualification would likely be revoked on the spot.

But accepting a competency evaluation? No way!

They struggled even against ordinary trainers—how could they possibly handle League evaluators?

Desperately searching for a way out, Lily suddenly had an idea. Putting on a troubled expression, she said, "Normally, we would put all our effort into preparing for a League inspection."

"But unfortunately, we just had a battle with an incredibly strong trainer today. He single-handedly defeated all our Pokémon, and now they're being sent to the Pokémon Center for treatment."

"Because of this, we even had to cancel all today's challenger appointments."

"If you could wait a couple of days for our Pokémon to recover, we'd be in our best form to face the League's assessment!"

As she spoke, Lily had already decided—once they got through this, she would immediately call Misty and beg her to return to help Cerulean Gym through this crisis.

Even though Misty's figure was nothing special, her talent as a trainer was something the three of them combined couldn't match.

"Oh? If a single trainer managed to defeat all three of you, they must be quite impressive. Can I know their name?" Green asked after receiving a subtle cue from Asahi.

Lily wanted to make up a random name, but fearing they'd get caught, she quickly recalled the strongest trainer they had encountered recently.

Her eyes lit up.

"The strong trainer was Gary. He's from Pallet Town and is said to be the grandson of the famous Professor Oak."

This would not only help them get through the crisis but also ensure that the League evaluators wouldn't doubt their gym's strength.

After all, that was Professor Oak's grandson!

Feeling proud of her quick thinking, Lily even mentally gave herself a thumbs-up.

Daisy and Violet, standing beside her, were also pleased with Lily's resourcefulness. They never expected her to be so quick-witted in a pinch!

However, they completely missed the strange expressions on Asahi and Green's faces.
