Chapter 15: A Unique Blend of Chaos
After receiving Lance's reply, Asahi felt at ease.
He had great confidence in Lance's capabilities.
Previously, Lance might not have known about Team Rocket's spies on Indigo Plateau, but now that he did, it was only a matter of time before those infiltrators were dealt with.
"So, you're spying on me, huh? I'll make sure you pay for this," Asahi muttered, mentally adding another mark against Team Rocket in his notebook.
Next, Asahi started planning his next steps.
The investigation wasn't urgent—it was a large-scale operation that wouldn't yield results overnight.
Besides, with Team Rocket's agents having just tracked him, it was unclear if there were still eyes on him. Heading straight to Vermilion Port for the investigation now could risk exposing his intentions.
Maybe he should first go to Stone Town and teach that online troll, who mocked him as a "kid trainer," a lesson.
Let them know the internet wasn't a lawless land.
While pondering his options, his phone vibrated.
Looking down, he saw another message from Lance.
[I contacted Steven. He's very interested in your formula. There's a Kanto-Hoenn Exchange Conference in a month, and he'll come in person to discuss it. He's also agreed to leak the news to the media beforehand, further solidifying your 'researcher' identity.]
[But to ensure everything is airtight, I also reached out to Professor Oak. If you have time, visit his lab in Pallet Town. He'll help patch any gaps in your cover story.]
Asahi was surprised by how efficient Lance was—he had already settled everything in such a short time, even contacting Professor Oak.
It seemed Team Rocket's growing influence was putting a lot of pressure on Lance.
Steven's willingness to personally attend was unexpected. Asahi had assumed Devon Corporation would just send a negotiation team, but for Steven, the heir of the company, to show up himself...
He wasn't sure if it was due to Lance's influence or the formula's immense value.
Regardless, Asahi made a mental note to remember this favor.
[Understood. Thanks!]
After replying, Asahi quickly finalized his plan.
First, he would visit Professor Oak in Pallet Town to make his appearance there.
Then, he'd head to Mt. Moon to gather some rare stones as a gift for Steven.
Perfect!
Lying on his bed, Asahi rested his head on Gardevoir's lap.
"Gardevoir, cuddles!"

"Dratini, use Thunder Wave!"
"Mi-chu~!"
Electric arcs flickered from the small antenna on Dratini's head, enveloping the opposing Pidgey in golden sparks.
The Pidgey, flying mid-air, froze as if paused, paralyzed and crashing to the ground, dazed.
Before it could recover, Dratini launched itself forward, landing a solid Dragon Tail attack, knocking the Pidgey out completely.
After the battle, Dratini eagerly returned to Asahi's arms, rubbing against him for praise.
"Well done, Dratini!"
Asahi handed Dratini an energy block to replenish its stamina. Then he walked over to the fainted Pidgey, using the power of Viridian to heal its injuries and cure its paralysis.
The Pidgey woke up, panicked, and quickly flew away. Asahi chuckled as he watched it leave.
Since entering Viridian Forest, he and Dratini had defeated 23 wild Pokémon.
They had battled nearly every common species in the forest, helping Dratini accumulate valuable combat experience.
"Too bad I couldn't lure out a swarm of Beedrill to test Dratini and Bagon's limits," Asahi muttered, a little disappointed.
Perhaps due to the influence of his Viridian power, wild Pokémon in the forest seemed disinterested in attacking him, even when he deliberately ventured into their territories.
With his baiting plan a failure, he resorted to targeting lone Pokémon, dragging them into battles and then using Viridian to heal and release them afterward.
"Guess I'll have to stick to battling other trainers in the future," Asahi concluded.
While healing wild Pokémon had helped him improve his Viridian powers, it was time-consuming and inefficient.
Battling trainers, on the other hand, was more practical—they'd handle their Pokémon's recovery at the Pokémon Center, and he'd even earn prize money. A win-win!
Recalling Dratini to its Poké Ball, Asahi looked ahead. Pallet Town was just within sight.

Pallet Town
Once known as "White Town," it had been renamed to commemorate Professor Oak's great-grandfather, Oak Masara, for his achievements as a Pokémon Trainer.
Walking through Pallet Town, Asahi felt a serene harmony between people and nature.
However, perhaps due to his time in the nature reserves, this atmosphere didn't particularly move him anymore. Compared to the tranquility of Pallet Town, he found himself preferring the bustling energy of cities like Saffron City.
After all, no matter how beautiful the scenery, one could grow tired of it.
As Asahi strolled, lost in thought, he noticed a brown-haired girl in a black dress running toward him from the end of the path.
"Hm?"
Her appearance felt oddly familiar.
Before he could place her, the girl hurried past him and disappeared into Viridian Forest.
"If I'm not mistaken, that was Green," Asahi realized.
The black dress, brown hair, and single-strap bag all matched the Green from his memories.
At this moment, Asahi found himself increasingly puzzled by the world he was in.
From the wild zone's Kaiser and Dragonair, to Lance as an Elite Four member, it seemed like he was in the anime-based Pokémon universe.
But Lt. Surge's ties to Team Rocket suggested otherwise.
Now, with the appearance of a protagonist from the Pokémon Adventures manga, things became even more unclear.
"Feels like a beautiful mix of chaos," he mused with a grin.
"This is getting more interesting."
