Chapter 13: Dragon Crystal? A Giant Battery!

After ensuring Dragonair and Gyarados were fully healed, Lance departed.

Before leaving, he exchanged phone numbers with Asahi, promising to have Steven get in touch soon.

"A future Kanto Champion, a current Hoenn Champion—knowing so many big names, I'm practically a big shot myself," Asahi joked, whistling as he carried the combined 100-plus pounds of Dratini and Bagon back to the training grounds.

Once there, he released Gardevoir.

"Gardevoir, set up a perimeter. I'm about to take something out," Asahi instructed.

Though confused, Gardevoir didn't question him. It used its psychic powers to create a barrier, isolating the area from the outside world.

Satisfied, Asahi accessed his system inventory and retrieved the Dragon Crystal he had just acquired.

The crystal, about the size of a washbasin, was an irregular purplish-red gemstone.

As soon as it was exposed to the air, Asahi felt a surge of dense Dragon-type energy emanating from it, tinting the surrounding atmosphere with a faint purple-red glow.

And this was just a negligible amount of energy leaking from the crystal!

"Impressive! No wonder it's used to create Regidrago," Asahi murmured.

Had Gardevoir not set up a barrier, the entire training ground might have been transformed into a "Dragon Terrain."

Such a small crystal could alter its surroundings—no wonder Regidrago, crafted from this material, was so powerful.

"Legendary Pokémon in this world might be even stronger than I imagined," Asahi concluded.

At the moment, however, his focus was on studying the Dragon Crystal's effects.

"Come here, give it a touch," he said, motioning to Dratini and Bagon.

Based on his prior experience feeding powdered Dragon Fang to Dratini, he suspected the Dragon Crystal would significantly boost their levels.

To be cautious, he started with direct contact rather than ingestion.

The two Pokémon approached the crystal, tentatively touching it with their small bodies.

Immediately, streams of energy from the crystal flowed into Dratini and Bagon, visibly enhancing their strength.

Surprised, Asahi quickly pulled up their stat panels.

[Dratini: LV13 → LV16]

[Bagon: LV5 → LV10]

Dratini leveled up by three, while Bagon, being at a lower level, jumped by five levels.

This was far more effective than the Dragon Fang powder.

However, the sudden absorption of such a large amount of Dragon-type energy left both Pokémon feeling lightheaded, as if they were drunk.

At the same time, Asahi noticed a new debuff on their status screens: [Overcharged (Dragon-Type)].

"They've probably absorbed too much Dragon-type energy in a short period, leading to indigestion," Asahi deduced.

Worried that prolonged overcharging might harm Dratini and Bagon, he quickly separated them from the Dragon Crystal.

Fortunately, after disconnecting from the energy source, the two Pokémon began returning to normal.

However, the [Overcharged (Dragon-Type)] debuff remained, displaying a countdown: [23:59:59].

"So, a one-day cooldown?"

From this, Asahi roughly deduced the Dragon Crystal's function—it was essentially a large-scale experience booster.

Once a day, three levels per use. This was leagues beyond Dragon Fang powder in efficiency!

It significantly shortened the time needed to raise Dratini and Bagon.

As for other potential functions, he lacked the tools and resources to explore them for now.

"Looks like choosing a researcher cover identity was the right call. If I can study this Dragon Crystal further with proper equipment, I might even earn myself a PhD someday."

After fantasizing about his bright future, Asahi turned his attention back to Dratini and Bagon to check how they were feeling.

Although the system panel was intuitive, some details required direct interaction to uncover.

Dratini, as expected, simply felt a bit bloated and wanted to shed its skin.

Asahi handed a spray bottle to Gardevoir and asked her to help Dratini stay hydrated during its shedding process.

He then focused on Bagon...

---

"Are you sure you're not hungry anymore?"

Asahi asked again to confirm.

"Bagon!"

Bagon eagerly nodded, clearly in good spirits. In the past, it always felt hungry, but now, after absorbing a massive amount of energy, that constant hunger had finally disappeared.

"Just as I thought!"

Bagon's condition matched Asahi's predictions.

He had suspected its voracious appetite stemmed from an intense need to replenish energy. Now, with the Dragon Crystal providing a highly efficient energy source, its need for frequent meals had significantly decreased.

This confidence in solving the issue was part of why Asahi had agreed to take Bagon in the first place.

"Anything else you feel?"

"Bagon!"

"Your strength has increased, your head feels harder, and your teeth are sharper?"

"Bagon!" Bagon nodded enthusiastically.

To prove its point, it trotted over to a steel training dummy used for testing move power. With a determined look in its eyes, it lowered its head and charged straight at the metal target.

Duang!

A deafening crash rang out.

Asahi watched in amazement as the two-centimeter-thick steel plate was left with a deep dent, perfectly matching the shape of Bagon's head.

This was far beyond the capabilities of an average Bagon!

Meanwhile, Dratini finished shedding its skin.

"Mi-chu~!"

The newly-shed Dratini leapt into Asahi's arms. Its body had grown noticeably longer, its blue scales glistening with a fresh, hydrated sheen. It felt even smoother and softer to the touch.

Clearly, this was also thanks to the Dragon Crystal.

"Excellent!"

Asahi was thrilled as he looked at his rapidly improving Dratini and Bagon.

Once they matured and teamed up with Gardevoir, handling Lt. Surge and Team Rocket's executives would be a piece of cake.

With the Dragon Crystal, that day wouldn't be far off.
