Pokemon: This Trainer is Too Cautious!

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Plan Before Action

"Thanks, Lapras, Weepinbell."

Ace breathed a sigh of relief, looking at a vine whip at his waist as he thanked Lapras and Weepinbell.

Weepinbell retracted its vine whip without much expression, clearly a bit tired after the recent ordeal.

Lapras, however, turned its head, rubbed against Ace's face, and let out a soft cry. Lapras was happy to have helped Ace.

Ace took out two basic Energy Cubes and fed them to Weepinbell and Lapras, helping them recover their stamina quickly.

Once the two Pokémon had recovered sufficiently, Ace recalled them.

Though they hadn't been together for long, Ace was gradually figuring out the personalities of his four Pokémon.

Even though their profiles listed their natures, Ace suspected these weren't their true personalities but rather enhancements from their ability panels.

Lapras was a bit naive and stubborn, obediently following Ace's commands without question after witnessing his miraculous abilities.

Weepinbell initially disliked Ace, but thanks to the soothing effects of the Soothe Bell, its opinion of him had changed. It had a slightly tsundere personality, usually showing no special emotions toward Ace, but whenever trouble arose, Weepinbell was the first to show concern for Ace.

Aerodactyl's personality was very ferocious. On the surface, it behaved obediently by Ace's side, but once it entered battle, its ferocious nature was fully exposed, exuding immense pressure.

Zubat was Ace's initial Pokémon. Its personality wasn't particularly special; it was obedient, diligent, and strictly followed Ace's instructions.

However, as the Pokémon Ace had spent the most time with, only Ace knew that Zubat could be a bit silly when not training or battling.

It was just that when it was with other Pokémon, it was either training or battling, so the other Pokémon hadn't noticed Zubat's slightly silly state.

Mewtwo would enter Cerulean Cave in the future, so Ace planned to scout ahead. He wanted to know why Mewtwo didn't go anywhere else after escaping, but specifically came to Cerulean Cave.

"It might be fate, but I'd rather believe there's something in Cerulean Cave that attracts Mewtwo."

Ace spent his mission points to heal his Pokémon, and without hesitation, he continued deeper into the cave.

However, because of the tornado created by those two Rhydon, the nearby Pokémon were scared away. Some hid in corners, refusing to come out, while others fled deeper.

This meant Ace walked for nearly ten minutes without seeing any Pokémon.

When he reached the end of the cave, three even deeper paths appeared before him.

"Three directions... Which way should I go?"

Ace had a headache. Faced with such a situation, he couldn't possibly try all three paths, could he?

"Side Quest (Mewtwo's Bond): Deep within Cerulean Cave, you might find the answer to your conjecture. Find it and confirm your hypothesis. Mission Reward: 1000 Gold, Mission Points based on quest completion evaluation."

"Side Quest (Plan Before Action): The Pokémon within Cerulean Cave are far stronger than you imagine. This is not the time for you to explore. Find a way to increase your strength and have more than three Pokémon at Level 30. Mission Reward: 500 Gold, Mission Points based on quest completion evaluation."

As the two quests appeared, Ace breathed a sigh of relief.

This was a hint from the system, indicating that there was indeed something deep within Cerulean Cave that attracted Mewtwo.

Moreover, to truly enter the depths of Cerulean Cave, Ace would need to have at least three Pokémon above Level 30.

"Hmm, I'll give it a try."

Ace turned to leave. Just as the system hinted, plan before action.

He would try again when he was stronger.

With a plan in mind, Ace quickly left Cerulean Cave. There were still no Pokémon blocking his way, and Ace smoothly walked out of the cave.

"Level 30, huh..."

Ace looked at his Pokémon.

Zubat: Level 21

Weepinbell: Level 24

Lapras: Level 23

Aerodactyl: Level 28

All four Pokémon had made significant progress, but there was still some distance to Level 30.

"The system hints at three Level 30 Pokémon, so to be safe, it's best to ensure all four Pokémon are Level 30 or higher before going into the cave. That would be the safest."

Ace muttered to himself, secretly feeling a headache.

Currently, when he battled weaker Pokémon or trainers, he barely gained any experience. Only by challenging stronger opponents could he gain substantial experience.

While slowly grinding would certainly allow Zubat and the others to grow in three to five years, could Ace wait that long?

The answer was no.

After all, according to the plot development, Team Rocket would be defeated this year. He couldn't wait that long; the consequences of mission failure were something he couldn't bear!

"It seems I can only link up with Ash first."

Ace quickly thought of Ash. If all went as expected, Ash would stay with Misty for a while to train.

If he could connect with Ash, the full guidance of a Gym Leader would be extremely valuable for improving their strength.

"Ugh, what a headache. After thinking it over, this seems to be the only way."

Ace annoyedly scratched his head, looked at the midday sun, and dejectedly returned to Cerulean City.

At Misty's villa in Cerulean City, Misty and Ash were washing off the dirt. Misty was alone in the bathroom, recalling the previous battle. She slammed her hand against the wall and said, "It's not enough. Those guys were just small fries, but to deal with them, we need more strong ones!"

After showering, Misty changed into an evening gown. As soon as she walked out of the bedroom, the villa's head maid came over and said, "Miss, there's a boy at the door who says he wants to see you."

"A boy?"

Misty was momentarily stunned, then slightly frowned and said, "I have important guests today. Tell him to come back tomorrow."

"I told him that too," the head maid said awkwardly. "But he told me to tell you the letter 'R,' and you'd understand."

"R?"

Misty was stunned for a moment, then a flash of memory went through her mind: those Team Rocket members in the Mt. Moon cave, all dressed in black, with a prominent "R" embroidered on their shirts!

"Let him in. I want to see him."

Misty hesitated for a moment, but finally chose to meet the boy.

After all, if he knew about Team Rocket and also knew of her connection to Team Rocket, then he must know something.

"If he's a remnant of Team Rocket..."

Misty's eyes turned cold. As a Gym Leader, if she didn't have resolute methods, she wouldn't be able to hold the position of a city's Gym Leader!
