Pokemon: The Untamed Journey

Chapter 38: Newborn

---

Some creatures, upon hatching from their eggs, have their first meal from the broken shells around them.

The Pokémon standing in its little nest of blankets was no exception, eagerly gulping down the remnants of its former home.

This Pokémon had soft yet thick fur, standing on four legs and bearing a slight resemblance to Officer Jenny's partner Pokémon, Growlithe.

But unlike the familiar Growlithe, this one's fur was longer, vibrant red with jet-black stripes. Its tail and fluffy mane were a striking creamy white, concealing its eyes entirely, and atop its head sat a small yet sharp horn.

While the surrounding Pokémon observed the newborn with joy, Kai froze, his eyes wide with shock.

The Pokémon before him was none other than the Hisuian form of Growlithe, a species that had long been extinct in modern times. Originally native to ancient Sinnoh, now known as the Hisui region, this Growlithe was believed to be the ancestor of today's Growlithe species.

"How is this possible?" Kai muttered, his mind racing.

Did Dialga's manipulation of time somehow play a role? Or was there an isolated location where Hisuian Growlithe and Arcanine still thrived, hidden from the modern world?

Failing to find an answer, Kai decided to let it go. After all, whatever the origin, this Hisuian Growlithe was now his responsibility.

Calling over Dragonite and Serperior, Kai quickly retrieved some warm water and a bottle of moo-moo milk. After finishing its meal of eggshells, the little Growlithe sniffed at its surroundings, clearly searching for more food.

The sound of Kai's footsteps startled the newborn briefly. However, after catching his scent, it relaxed, sitting obediently and waiting for his next move.

Kai couldn't help but find it adorable. Its mannerisms reminded him of Dragonite when he was young. Gently lifting it onto his lap, he took the damp towel Serperior passed him and carefully wiped away the sticky residue still clinging to its fur.

Initially, Kai had planned to bathe the newborn, but upon realizing it was a Fire/Rock-type Pokémon highly vulnerable to water. He decided against it. For now, a towel would suffice.

Thanks to the heat radiating from Moltres, the Growlithe dried quickly. Once done, Kai cradled it in his arms and offered it a warm bottle of moo-moo milk.

"Droooo~" (I also want some)

Off to the side, Dragonite watched the scene with glistening eyes, a droplet of saliva forming at the corner of its mouth.

The bottle was familiar it was the same blue bottle Kai had once used to feed Dragonite when it was just a Dratini.

Watching the Hisuian Growlithe now brought back those sweet memories.

As Kai fed the Growlithe, he noticed a pair of eyes peeking out from beneath its thick mane, gazing at him with curiosity and trust.

Unlike ordinary animals, which took days to adapt to their surroundings, Pokémon like this Growlithe seemed to grasp their environment within minutes.

"Woof, woof!"

With its hunger sated, the Growlithe began exploring its surroundings, its curiosity leading it from one marvel to the next.

It didn't take long before it noticed the other Pokémon gathered in the room.

Kai braced himself, expecting the Growlithe to react with caution or fear. Instead, it wobbled over on unsteady legs, sniffing each Pokémon in turn, seemingly introducing itself.

Whimsicott and the two Cottonees responded warmly, playfully swaying to greet their new companion.

Kai's main team, however, stood stiffly in place, unsure how to interact with such a small and fragile creature.

They allowed the Growlithe to sniff them but didn't dare move a muscle, as though one wrong step might shatter the little one.

Watching them, Kai chuckled softly. He had a feeling this Growlithe was destined to become a spoiled little rascal with so many "aunts" and "uncles" doting on it.

Having sniffed everyone, the Growlithe's confidence seemed to grow. Its steps became steadier, and before long, it was hopping around with ease.

Eventually, it made its way over to Moltres.

The legendary bird froze as the tiny creature sniffed it curiously. Its wide, fiery eyes flicked nervously, unsure how to react.

Then, the Growlithe tilted its head and barked, "Woof, woof!" (Mommy!)

The room fell silent.

Moltres's dignified posture crumbled as it dropped unceremoniously onto its rear. Its pupils quivered as though the world itself had just turned upside down.

Oblivious to the turmoil it had caused, the Growlithe affectionately nuzzled Moltres's leg before bounding over to Kai.

Serperior, who had been observing smugly, suddenly tensed, sensing danger.

"Woof, woof!" (Daddy!)

CRACK!

Serperior's tail slammed into the floor, leaving a deep gouge in the wooden boards.

The regal serpent trembled with suppressed rage, its scales glowing faintly red.

'How could it have let its guard down? How did this happen?'

'This bird must have been plotting all along!' Serperior's piercing glare shot toward Moltres, who remained frozen in shock.

Kai, blissfully unaware of the underlying tensions, simply smiled and crouched to pat the Growlithe on the head.

Serperior defeated.

---

That night, after the excitement had settled, Kai sent the other Pokémon back to their nests. It was almost midnight, and everyone needed their rest.

Noticing how attached the Growlithe was to Moltres, Kai decided to let the legendary bird stay indoors for now. As for himself, he opted to sleep in the living room, ensuring the newborn felt safe during its first night.

Meanwhile, Serperior lay in its empty bed, staring at the ceiling with gritted teeth.
