Pokemon: The Journey

Chapter 20: Pokémon Emergency! - 4

"Now, be good people and die for me."

One could hear a pin drop in the silence that ensued after the video had been paused.

"I-I-It was just a joke..."

SLAP...THUD.

The slap that hit Officer, no former Officer Jenny, and her subsequent fall to the floor from the sheer power behind it, reverberated in the room.

"Silence."

Professor Oak's cold voice contrasted with the rising temperature and hostility in the room.

Jenny opened her mouth to say something.

GRRRrrrrrr

...And promptly closed it. Having an Alakazam, Arcanine, Charizard, and a Dragonite who looked ready to rip you to shreds, looking at you will have that effect.

Looking at the person who slapped her, Oak said, "Delia, as much as I appreciate and find it satisfying to put her in her place, you shouldn't be here."

Looking at Oak with the still murderous look in her eyes, she said with a menacing voice, "She tried to kill my son!"

Oak raised his hand, thought about it, lowered his hand, and spoke, "Fair point. Shouldn't you be at Ash's side right now when he is resting?"

By now, the former Officer Jenny had been collected by an Ace trainer who had come from the league along with someone else.

Sighing, Delia said, "He just went to sleep a little while ago. He spent a lot of time going through the lost and found section to replace his entire gear and find new, better gear, too. I hate to admit it, but the gear I had given him would not have cut it for his travels. Thank you, Nurse Joy, for giving him free access to the storeroom and the lost and found section."

Nurse Joy, who now had a bandage on her arm, looked at her after turning away from Jenny.

"It was the least I could do to help the person who not only saved the Pokémon Center from being robbed, but also exposed this woman's involvement and protected both Chansey and me as best as he could. Even some experienced trainers do not always help when some Centers are attacked. So, for a rookie like him to do all of that was impressive. All the lost and found items, along with some of the stuff from the storeroom, would have been either thrown away or sold. They should be used by someone else for their journey. I also kept an eye on him while he was collecting them. He took a lot, but made sure to confirm with me. He was asking for some stuff that was there but could not have been used now."

Professor Oak looked intrigued and asked what they were. After hearing what they were, he said, "He could use that stuff. He only needs to be shown how to operate them."

"Pardon me, Professor, but they cannot be used nowadays by anybody. The only possible way to use them would be to upgrade them or use the hardware that has been scraped by now. I am surprised that those still exist."

"Ah, Lance. What you say is correct, but there is something that I forgot to mention, which I will mention to Ash while he collects them. They might not be used, but he should have them just in case. It is better to have something and not need it than not to have it and need it. Thanks for coming here when I called you. You must be busy with your work."

The now-revealed owner of the Charizard, Lance, said, "I was with it being the start of the League season. When you called, I just received it to get out of the paperwork for a time. I was not expecting to hear that Team Rocket had attacked a Center, and the former officer Jenny was helping them. What do you think should be done with your clanmate, Major Jenny?"

An old and mature-looking Jenny with wrinkles in her face angrily looked at the door through which the now former officer had been taken. She was approached and comforted by her Arcanine. Speaking with disgust, she replied, "She will be stripped from the clan and be placed in prison with no chance of parole. I still cannot believe, even with the evidence, that a member of the police force would help the criminals just for her gain."

Softening her voice a little, she continued, "I have to thank and apologize to the trainer, Ash, I believe his name was, for this one's conduct. I know that he would distrust the police now after what had happened, but I would like to tell him that he should trust us. It is going to sound hollow coming from one of the people related to her. I have to thank Nurse Joy that you brought here with you, Lance. With the people busy with the event and replacing the nurse stationed here, nobody is going to notice much about what had transpired. It is better to keep everything under wraps for now. I do not even want to imagine the chaos that would ensue after it would have been found by the public that a member of the respectable Jenny clan has been working with the criminals."

The original Viridian City Nurse Joy sighed at this and said, "It was better that my cousin and her Chansey had come to take my place instead for the time being. With me injured, questions would have been asked, and I would not have been able to take care of Pokémon and the questions. Chansey would have helped, but..."

The Professor looked sadly at her and replied, "I cannot blame you. She was attacked not only by Team Rocket but also by a person whom she considered her friend. I saw her nervous around us. It would seem that the only people with whom she can be comfortable now are you and Ash. She is still staying by his side, isn't she?"

Nodding at the statement, she also said, "I would not be surprised if she decided to go with him when he left tomorrow. Will there be any issues it would cause with the league?"

Lance slowly let out a breath.

"This entire thing's a mess, small but still a mess. There would be no issues with it. She would have been unable to help, as she will now be scared of trainers. It would have been detrimental for her and everyone. In this way, at least her skills can be put to use somewhere else instead of rotting in the Center. The League still needs to pay him for his services in protecting the Center. I would not be getting rest for quite some time. Giovanni is still on vacation, and he accepts only strong trainers who try to get the badge, and the season just started today. Why is he nearly unavailable when he is required? I do not know about you, but I am going to get some sleep now. I have to get up early in the morning and go to the local police station. There is no guarantee that she was the only one who was corrupt at the station. I need to investigate the situation there. The meeting is adjourned for now."

Begrudgingly, everyone accepted the reasoning and went away to rest for the remainder of the night. There was a lot of work to be done tomorrow and for the days to follow.

Delia Ketchum went to her son's room.

Nurse Joy, Major Jenny, and Lance went to their designated rooms. The Ace Trainers outside were keeping a watch.

Professor Oak started getting up and reminisced about how they had come to this.

----------------------------------------------------

When he had received a video from Ash's Pokédex, he was eating his ordered dinner. He had just told him what to do to send a video. He must have sent it accidentally. All the ones who used this feature had this problem for the first time.

In any other circumstance, he would not have batted an eye and deleted it. Well, he was feeling bored, so he opened and played the video to see what he had recorded and sent.

He noted that the video was longer than the ones he normally got from others who used it.

It was fairly normal at first, with Ash getting called to get his Pokémon. After receiving them, he talked with them and returned Spearow.

After this, when he heard the glass and other stuff break while being covered in smoke, he stopped eating. When the attackers revealed themselves to be Team Rocket, he called for his Alakazam to go and bring him Dragonite. His eyes were stuck to the screen the entire time the fight lasted. He was impressed a little, for Ash holding his ground in a double battle for the first time. After they had been defeated, he let out a sigh of relief.

He raised his eyebrows at the command that Ash had given his Pokémon. Then Officer Jenny arrived. When Alakazam had arrived with Dragonite, she was about to shoot Ash and Nurse Joy after she had been exposed.

He hurriedly closed his machine and had Alakazam teleport them to Viridian City. By the time he arrived at the Center, praying he was not late, he saw that Officer Jenny was lying tied up on the floor with Ash helping to bandage Nurse Joy's arm. His Pokémon were standing guard over Jenny.

He had afterwards called Lance to tell him about it. He also had his Alakazam bring Delia afterwards. He still thought about how the video ended.

While getting up, his hand touched the remote and played what had happened after Jenny had threatened to shoot them. He left the room as the recording played in the background.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

After they had been threatened with being shot, Ash curled his fist and lowered it by his side while giving a slow nod to her.

At that moment, a brown blur shot downwards and hit the gun, making it fall out of her hands. Pikachu shot forward and hit her in the abdomen while hitting her with a move that looked like Thunder Wave.

Ash ran forward and gave a mean right hook to her face and kicked the gun away from her.

While looking at her fallen body, Ash said with a cold voice, with conviction and seriousness,

"Six, and the gravest mistake you have made was to let down your guard and not expect me to have more Pokémon and be prepared to deal with you."
