Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect

Chapter 391: Electric Battle

From the sidelines, the senior disciple had appeared at some point to serve as referee for this match.

"The battle begins!" the senior disciple announced.

"Electric Terrain!"

"Focus Energy!" John and Mustard gave orders simultaneously.

Zeraora raised its fist high and slammed the ground heavily. Immediately, white sparks spread like waves, and in the blink of an eye, the entire battlefield was covered with electricity. With the blessing of the Plasma Surge ability, the sparks on the ground were as thick as a carpet, just standing on it sent chills down one's spine.

Urshifu didn't move, simply staring at Zeraora as airflow surged around its body. Its hair stood up abruptly before settling down, though whether from Electric Terrain or Focus Energy was unclear.

"Mind's Eye?" John frowned slightly. He sensed that Urshifu had gained insight into everything, as if it had activated some kind of precognitive ability.

Did Mustard also teach his Pokemon to use Mind's Eye?

"Little Johnny, be careful, this old man is about to attack!" Master Mustard said with a smile, raising his hand and pointing. "Urshifu, Close Combat!"

Urshifu immediately stepped forward.

Before John could even hear footsteps, the black shadow had already pierced toward Zeraora like a falcon, a single punch becoming a flurry of fist shadows covering Zeraora's entire body.

John didn't have time to react. Zeraora didn't have time to react either, in terms of pure speed, it far surpassed Urshifu.

With continuous footsteps, Zeraora deftly and easily avoided the series of attacks from Urshifu.

But after just a few seconds, the lightning aura surrounding Zeraora's body began trembling non-stop, showing faint signs of fracturing.

This meant Zeraora was being hit by the attacks!

John quickly figured out the reason.

While Zeraora's speed was indeed fast, no matter how quick it moved, it remained within Urshifu's Mind's Eye perception, meaning Zeraora's movements were completely transparent to its opponent.

Even though Urshifu's speed was slower than Zeraora's, it could design "traps" through multiple consecutive attacks, guiding Zeraora to expose weaknesses. This made Zeraora's superior speed irrelevant, as long as it stayed close, it would definitely be hit by Urshifu!

"Using slowness to overcome speed..." John had heard about this technique from Saul before. He'd never thought he'd encounter it in the game before fully mastering it himself.

"But you're not the only one who can understand minds!"

"Zeraora, Heart Net!" John commanded.

Zeraora immediately stepped back, crossed its hands in front of itself, and used its fingers to tear open electrical currents like a net in mid-air, blocking Urshifu as it tried to pursue.

When Urshifu smashed through the Electro Web, it immediately found itself standing in a cage!

On the ground, in the sky, on all sides, the entire battlefield was covered by a net made of electrical current.

John preferred to describe it as a prison.

It functioned similarly to Block, Pokemon couldn't be withdrawn without tearing through the Electro Web.

But that wasn't its main purpose.

The move Zeraora used was called "Heart Net," inspired by John's memories of the character "Enel" from One Piece.

Zeraora's Mind's Eye technique was newly learned and couldn't be used perfectly yet.

Therefore, John had it use Mind's Eye as the foundation, relying on its powerful Electric-type abilities to connect with electricity in the air.

Let the electricity serve as its own "eyes" to sense and lock onto movements around it, an effect similar to Mind's Eye.

When Zeraora truly mastered Mind's Eye, the "Heart Net" connected to electricity would surpass ordinary Mind's Eye.

However, judging from its current need for Electric Terrain as assistance, that would take some time.

"Plasma Fists!" John raised his hand and pressed down, commanding with authority.

Zeraora tapped the ground with its toes, and in the next moment transformed into an extremely bright white spark, shooting toward Urshifu like an arrow.

Mustard's Urshifu was "Rapid Strike Style," with Water and Fighting typing.

Weak to Electric, it would take double damage once hit by Zeraora's Plasma Fists.

Coupled with the 100% power increase from Plasma Surge, and the double power boost for the first Electric-type attack move.

Comparable to quadruple effectiveness!

Plus there was also a 30% move power boost from Electric Terrain.

With such terrifying accumulated power, even legendary Pokemon would be knocked out instantly!

"Surging Strikes!" Master Mustard called out lightly, his expression becoming serious.

The two Pokemon clashed in the center of the battlefield.

Zeraora's punches were like lightning, only extremely bright white light came into view. In addition to terrifying speed and penetrating power, the extreme electricity also had an effect similar to "flash bombs" when attacking, dazzling to behold.

But Urshifu had already closed its eyes in advance. Its naked eyes couldn't see Zeraora's attack at all, so it relied entirely on its Mind's Eye. Its hands slowly "pushed" in mid-air, as if practicing some mysterious boxing technique.

The fist moves flowed like water, appearing extremely slow.

Every punch from Zeraora toward Urshifu seemed to hit a calm water surface, creating ring after ring of ripples.

The waves on the lake trembled extremely violently.

"Is this Surging Strikes?" John frowned. It looked like a defensive move, but he clearly remembered that in the game, Surging Strikes was a fast attack move that struck three times per turn and always hit critical points.

If he couldn't understand it, there was no point trying to figure it out for now.

Zeraora would break through with pure strength.

Plasma Surge was terrifying!

Following Zeraora's attack, the surging electrical current almost condensed into a thunder dragon, pushing back against Urshifu, until it struck the dojo wall.

"Zzzzt!"

Sparks flew everywhere!

Unfortunately, Urshifu wasn't knocked out in one hit, its Surging Strikes had consumed a large portion of Plasma Fists' power.

"Not bad! Little Johnny is so powerful, I think you could try competing with Little Leonny for the championship," Master Mustard nodded approvingly. "But it seems if I don't show some real strength, I'll lose easily."

As he spoke, Master Mustard took out a Pokeball to recall Urshifu, then revealed his Dynamax Band.

"Urshifu, Dynamax!"
