Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect

Chapter 143: Aerial Ace

The referee stepped forward, raising his hand to signal the start of the match. His voice echoed across the battlefield:

"The challenge begins now! John is here to face off against Fortree Gym Leader Winona. Each side will use three Pokemon with no substitutions allowed. When one trainer's Pokemon are all unable to battle, the match is over!"

The rules were clear, and the tension in the air was palpable.

Winona casually plucked a Pokeball from her belt and launched it with a practiced flick of her wrist. It burst open mid-air, releasing a Swellow in a flash of light. The bird Pokemon's sleek, golden-tinged feathers shimmered in the sunlight, marking it as a rare shiny variant.

John, unfazed, grabbed a Pokeball from his own belt and tossed it with a sharp underhand throw. The device struck the ground with a resounding thud, splitting open to reveal a towering Tyranitar. The immense Pokemon roared, and the battlefield shook as its sheer mass settled into place. Sand swirled around it, kicked up by its Sand Stream ability, enveloping the arena in a whirling storm of grit and dust.

The referee glanced at both trainers and their Pokemon. Satisfied, he called out, "Let the battle begin!"

Winona didn't hesitate. "Swellow, use Aerial Ace! Speed is our weapon—let's go!"

Swellow shot forward like a golden streak, its wings cutting through the air with deadly precision. John, however, remained calm. "Tyranitar, use Rock Slide."

The massive Pokemon let out a guttural roar, summoning a cascade of jagged rocks from the sky. They rained down on the battlefield with terrifying force, creating a chaotic storm of debris. Swellow's Aerial Ace landed squarely on Tyranitar, but the attack barely left a scratch on the Rock- and Dark-type's tough hide. Tyranitar stood firm, absorbing the hit without flinching.

"Strong defense," Winona muttered, quickly reassessing her strategy. She knew her Swellow's speed would be key. "Swellow, keep moving! Use Double Team!"

Swellow flickered as its image split into multiple copies, the shimmering clones darting around the battlefield. The sandstorm swirled, but the mirages blended seamlessly into the storm's chaos.

John smirked. "Tyranitar, stay focused and use Stone Edge!"

Tyranitar stomped the ground, and jagged stones erupted outward in every direction, slicing through the sandstorm. The sharp stones shattered most of the illusions, forcing the real Swellow to dart upward to avoid the attack. It hovered above the arena, its golden feathers glinting in the dim light of the storm.

"Swellow, don't give up! Use Hyper Beam! Aim for its blind spot!" Winona commanded.

The bird Pokemon hovered for a moment, its wings beating against the sandy gale. It opened its beak, gathering a blindingly bright energy. A split second later, the Hyper Beam tore through the air, heading straight for Tyranitar's side.

"Block it with Rock Tomb! Now!" John countered.

Massive stone slabs descended from above, forming a makeshift barrier in front of Tyranitar. The Hyper Beam struck the rocks, shattering them but failing to penetrate fully. The remaining rubble tumbled harmlessly to the ground.

Caught in the relentless downpour of Rock Slide, Swellow couldn't escape. The flying-type cried out before collapsing under the onslaught of stones. The referee raised his flag. "Swellow is unable to battle! Tyranitar wins!"

Winona frowned as she returned Swellow to its Pokeball. She quickly selected her next contender, tossing another Pokeball into the fray. It opened to reveal Pelipper, its wings flapping rhythmically as it hovered in the air. Storm clouds began to gather above the battlefield as Pelipper's Drizzle ability activated. However, the clouds were no match for the swirling sandstorm Tyranitar had conjured. The dark skies were quickly overwhelmed by the relentless yellow haze.

"Pelipper, use Hydro Pump!" Winona called, her tone sharp with urgency.

John responded instantly. "Tyranitar, another Rock Slide! Full power!"

Pelipper unleashed a torrent of water from its massive beak, slamming into Tyranitar. The attack was super effective, yet Tyranitar barely flinched. The sandstorm amplified its special defense, allowing it to tank the attack with surprising ease. In retaliation, another barrage of jagged rocks descended from the sky. Pelipper darted to the side, narrowly avoiding the first volley.

"Good! Use Hurricane! Disrupt its focus!" Winona shouted.

Pelipper flapped its wings furiously, summoning a powerful whirlwind that tore through the battlefield. The gale swept up sand, stones, and debris, creating a maelstrom of chaos. Tyranitar braced itself, but the force of the wind slowed its movements.

"Tyranitar, push through! Use Crunch!" John commanded.

Tyranitar roared and lunged forward, its massive jaws snapping shut around Pelipper. The Flying-type squawked in pain, struggling to break free. Tyranitar's grip tightened, and with a final shake, it hurled Pelipper to the ground.

Winona's eyes narrowed. "Get back up! Use Scald!"

Pelipper sprayed a jet of boiling water, striking Tyranitar's side. The attack sizzled as it hit, but Tyranitar's endurance proved unyielding. It responded with one final Rock Slide, and this time, Pelipper couldn't evade. The Flying-type collapsed under the weight of the attack.

The referee raised his flag. "Pelipper is unable to battle! Tyranitar wins!"

Winona's expression tightened. She had only one Pokemon left—and she knew she needed to make it count. Reaching for her final Pokeball, she threw it high into the air with determination.

From the burst of light emerged Altaria, the graceful Dragon- and Flying-type known for its ethereal, cloud-like wings. It hovered effortlessly above the battlefield, exuding a calm yet powerful aura.
