Pokemon: The Breeding House

Chapter 87: Metagross

Another brand new day.

With summer's arrival, the temperature in the air grew increasingly hot, making the entire forest seem like a giant steamer.

Fortunately, Carver had installed air conditioning in advance. Even without Ice-type Pokémon to help with cooling, the breeding house could stay very cool.

Under Carver and Bewear's leadership, all the Pokémon enjoyed the air conditioning while eating watermelon, living quite happily.

Even Chansey, Ralts, and the others were invited by Carver to come blow air conditioning and watch TV together in the main hall.

As a Ghost-type Pokémon, Gastly's body was naturally cold, so its perception of summer was much duller.

Compared to the beginning, Ralts and the others had also changed a lot—they were obviously much less afraid of Carver and everyone else.

Ditto had transformed into a Zigzagoon's appearance and was standing on the counter eating small cookies Carver had prepared for it.

The only one unchanged was little Abra.

It floated in midair with closed eyes, still sleeping soundly.

Carver was very satisfied with their changes.

This proved that life in the breeding house was beneficial for them.

Chingling and Castform hanging from the ceiling.

The Clefairy crowded together watching TV.

Bagon wearing the Exp. Share sparring with Growlithe.

Bulbasaur and Gastly chasing and playing.

Chansey watching all this with a gentle expression.

"Bewear~"

Bewear nearby was also watching this scene.

Carver turned his head, and the moment he made eye contact with Bewear, he immediately understood what Bewear was thinking.

"Bewear, you're also happy about today's life, aren't you?" Carver asked with a smile.

"Bewear!"

Bewear gave an affirmative answer.

In his third month in this world, he had finally found a home of his own in this world.

In the future, their family members would definitely keep growing!

The weather was too hot, so the breeding house had few customers today.

With nothing else to do, Carver prepared to return behind the counter to continue reading.

But just then, the videophone in the breeding house suddenly rang.

Carver was slightly stunned. He walked forward to answer it, and Steven's handsome face immediately appeared on the screen.

"Steven?" Carver asked with a smile: "Is your journey going well? How do you have time to call today?"

Steven nodded: "Everything's going smoothly. I'm currently traveling in Sootopolis City, and I met a very interesting person here called Wallace. If there's a chance in the future, I'll introduce you."

"Wallace?" Carver paused.

"Yes, he's a Coordinator," Steven said.

"I see!" Carver understood.

Steven and Wallace were about the same age. Steven had just turned ten, so Wallace couldn't be much older.

The current Wallace wasn't yet the Master-level Coordinator who would stand at the top of Hoenn in the future.

"By the way, I called today about something else." Steven straightened his expression, recalling what Carver had told him before.

Current evolution wasn't the end of Pokémon evolution.

They could still break through their species limits and evolve into even more powerful Super Pokémon.

If these words were spoken aloud, anyone would think it was wishful thinking.

But Steven felt that Carver wasn't someone who spoke without basis.

"My Metang successfully evolved into Metagross not long ago," Steven said.

Hearing this, Carver was stunned.

"It evolved? So quickly?"

You had to know that in the games, Metang needed to reach level 45 to evolve into Metagross.

And now...

Steven had just turned ten this year. He'd been traveling for less than five months, and Beldum had already evolved into Metagross?

Genius!

Truly worthy of being Hoenn's strongest Champion! This thought couldn't help but surface in Carver's mind.

However, Steven shook his head: "Not very quickly, right?"

"Getting Beldum to evolve into Metagross in five months is absolutely incredible!" Carver said.

Steven was stunned, immediately understanding what Carver meant.

He laughed: "It wasn't five months. I'd been training Beldum for a long time before I turned ten."

Although the Pokémon League stipulated that trainers could only receive their starter Pokémon and register as trainers after turning ten.

This didn't mean children couldn't have their own Pokémon before turning ten.

Some parents would prepare newly hatched Pokémon for their children, letting them grow up together.

Then they'd set out on their journey together after turning ten.

Trainers and Pokémon with this kind of relationship were often more intimate.

Steven's Shiny Beldum was a birthday gift his father Mr. Stone had given him on his eighth birthday.

That's when Steven began learning to train Pokémon.

As his first Pokémon, Beldum naturally became Steven's training focus.

Hearing Steven's words, Carver immediately understood.

"I see."

He'd almost forgotten that this world didn't require you to be ten to have Pokémon.

He'd had preconceptions. This way it made sense.

Steven looked over with quite expectant expression, then asked: "That thing you mentioned before—can we do it now?"

Carver nodded.

As everyone knew, completing Mega Evolution required three conditions.

First, the Pokémon must evolve to its final stage.

Second, prepare the corresponding Mega Stone and Key Stone.

Third, there must be a deep emotional foundation between trainer and Pokémon—what people called bonds.

Now, Steven's Metagross perfectly met all three conditions.

Metagross had evolved to its final stage, Steven had both Key Stone and Mega Stone, and they'd grown up together, with emotional bonds far exceeding other Pokémon.

"Yes, come over!" Carver said: "I think we can start trying."

"Are you at the breeding house?" Steven asked.

Carver nodded and asked back with a smile: "Where else would I be?"

Steven's face showed a smile as he said: "In that case, I'll bring Metagross over right away."

Getting right to it, that morning Steven arranged for a private plane and flew from Sootopolis City to Autumn Leaf Town.

That afternoon, the plane slowly landed in the breeding house's backyard.

Carver heard the commotion and went outside to check.

As soon as he went out, he saw Steven walking down from the plane.

"Long time no see, Carver," Steven said softly.

"Is everything ready?" Carver asked.

Steven nodded. He extended his hand, opened his palm, revealing the stone inside.

That was Metagross's Mega Stone, specially selected by Metagross from that pile of evolution stones, because Metagross could sense this stone had some connection with itself.

"And this." Steven also showed the Key Stone bracelet on his wrist: "I've followed your plan and had that Key Stone ore crafted into a convenient bracelet."

"Is there anything else I need to do?" Steven asked.

Carver shook his head and answered with a smile: "No need, that's enough!"
