Entering Story Mode for the fourth time, Chris decided not to take out the Master Ball. He was too tired of wasting time.
He flew straight to the entrance of the Sootopolis City Gym.
Steven and Wallace, The Sootopolis Gym Leader, were watching Kyogre and Groudon from a distance.
Chris landed at the Sootopolis Gym. Steven acknowledged him with a nod without asking any questions.
"This can't continue. The battle between Groudon and Kyogre will spread to the entire region sooner or later!" Steven frowned, speaking in a grave voice.
"To be precise, it has already affected us. Tsunamis have struck coastal cities including Lilycove City, Slateport City, and Rustboro City. There are countless victims, and even some casualties!"
"The continuous torrential rain has turned low-lying areas like Fortree Town into a pond!"
"Mt. Chimney is experiencing an unusual eruption. People in Lavaridge Town and even Flannery's Gym had to be evacuated."
"Although Gym Leaders across the region have begun taking action, it's just a drop in the bucket," Wallace replied, holding his PokeNav. He had just finished an online meeting with the other Gym Leaders of the Hoenn region.
"We need to address the root of the problem!" Steven gazed at Groudon and Kyogre.
Wallace nodded in agreement. "Norman, the Petalburg Gym Leader, found an ancient document. It states that when facing the king of the earth and the god of the sea, the Draconid Tribe would make meteorite wishes at Meteor Falls to summon the Lord of the Sky to end their conflict!"
"The Lord of the Sky? Rayquaza?" Steven responded immediately.
"Yes, Rayquaza, another ancient Pokémon, can stop them!"
"What about the Draconid Tribe?"
"I don't know. No one has heard from the Draconid Tribe for hundreds of years."
"Then it seems we must rely on ourselves."
"We should contact the Mossdeep Space Center and ask them to help locate Rayquaza's current position."
Steven considered this suggestion. Rayquaza typically resides in the ozone layer and often flies high in the sky. To find Rayquaza, asking the Mossdeep Space Center for assistance would be the fastest method.
Wallace shook his head slightly. "No need! We've already pinpointed Rayquaza's location. It's currently sleeping at the Sky Pillar!"
"Sky Pillar? Where is that?"
"Route 131."
Steven nodded immediately and was about to leave for the Sky Pillar when he noticed a massive wave rushing toward his face.
In the next second, a gleaming silver Metagross appeared and used Meteor Mash to blast away the oncoming wave!
"This is getting worse—Groudon and Kyogre are moving closer!" Steven gritted his teeth. "We must stop them first, at least long enough for the people of Sootopolis City to evacuate!"
Suddenly, Steven fixed his gaze on Chris.
"Chris, please go to the Sky Pillar and wake up Rayquaza!"
"Leave it to me," Chris agreed without hesitation, recognizing this as the main storyline.
"Good! So..." Steven looked at Wallace. "Let's go!"
As he spoke, Steven took out his Mega Brooch.
His Metagross immediately underwent Mega Evolution.
Jumping onto the back of Mega Metagross, Steven charged toward Kyogre first.
"Although I don't know who you are, since Steven trusts you so much, I'm also counting on you to awaken Rayquaza!" Wallace said to Chris, then turned to Juan.
"Master, you should lead the people of Sootopolis City to safety. We're facing the ancient Pokémon Groudon and Kyogre. I don't know how long we can hold them off."
Besides being the Sootopolis Gym Leader, Juan was also Wallace's mentor.
"I will evacuate everyone as quickly as possible!" Juan replied solemnly.
"Good," Wallace nodded, tossed a Poké Ball, and Wailord appeared, carrying him as he swam toward Groudon.
Hoenn's two champions were preparing to confront Groudon and Kyogre!
Juan, the Sootopolis Gym Leader, respectfully saluted Chris. "Then I'm counting on you, Chris!"
Chris had developed a relationship with Juan when challenging the Sootopolis Gym earlier.
Taking out a Poké Ball and releasing its contents, Chris once again stood on the back of his Salamence and rushed toward the horizon.
Wallace had said the Sky Pillar was on Route 131, southwest of Sootopolis City.
As soon as Chris left the area around Sootopolis Island, Story Mode automatically ended.
He returned home, and his character appeared on Route 126 on his handheld device.
"Okay, this way will be faster."
Chris could move more efficiently using the handheld.
He selected Fly to travel to Pacifidlog Town, a place he had passed through on his way to the Johto region aboard the S.S Anne. He had used the Pokémon Center there out of habit, saving his progress.
He never thought it would come in handy now!
After flying to Pacifidlog Town, Chris headed east directly to Route 131, then north, bypassing underwater rocks using Dive. Resurfacing, he finally arrived at the Sky Pillar.
This was a massive stone pillar that stretched straight up into the clouds—or perhaps it was better described as a tower!
Entering the Sky Pillar, Chris switched back to Story Mode.
He suddenly felt like he was reliving his experience at Mirage Tower.
The first floor of the Sky Pillar was empty except for scattered rocks. The ceiling above was punctured with holes of various sizes, all seemingly made by large stones.
In the furthest section of the room, there was a faint staircase leading to the upper floors.
If his memory served him right, this place should be inhabited by various Pokémon.
Chris remembered catching a Bronzong here when he played through the game previously.
"I thought this would be more of a dungeon," Chris muttered as he took out a Poké Ball and released its occupant.
Gardevoir appeared.
"Gardevoir, scan the tower. We'll teleport forward!" Chris instructed.
If entering the Sky Pillar hadn't switched him to Story Mode, Chris had planned to fly all the way up to Rayquaza without even entering the tower.
Since they had to go through the interior, they might as well use the fastest method!
Gardevoir clasped her hands together in front of her chest, and Confusion energy burst outward, spreading upward throughout the structure.
Meanwhile, Chris took out his treasure detector.
As Rayquaza's nest, would the Sky Pillar contain any valuable items?
As soon as he activated the treasure detector, it immediately pointed firmly toward the entrance!
Chris froze for a moment. "At the door... there's a legendary Pokémon item right at the door?"
