Early morning, Beach.
Godzilla-like Tyranitar sat on the beach, a majestic sandcastle standing proudly before it—a small but intricate castle it had just built.
"Tyranitar!" Pleased with its creation, Tyranitar shook its head in a contented, almost adorable manner.
From nowhere, a Palossand quietly approached Tyranitar's side.
"Whoosh!" Without warning, Tyranitar opened its massive mouth and devoured the sandcastle in a single gulp.
Crunch, crunch. Sand swirled in Tyranitar's mouth.
Palossand trembled, retreating silently.
"Tyranitar, you can't just eat that!" Chris called out from a racing boat he happened to be driving by.
"Tyranitar~~" Tyranitar waved back cheerfully at Chris.
As Chris sped away, Tyranitar tilted its head thoughtfully, deciding the sandcastle wasn't quite as tasty as it had hoped.
No matter—it would simply build another one! But just as Tyranitar began, it noticed something unusual in the sand and slowly turned its head.
There, sticking out of the sand, was a red shovel gleaming under the sunlight.
Tyranitar's eyes sparkled.
Excited, it reached out to grab the shovel, but as it tugged, the handle resisted—it was stuck on something buried deeper.
Frowning in determination, Tyranitar yanked the shovel free with sheer force. Satisfied, it resumed its sand-piling efforts.
Behind it, Palossand collapsed into a heap of sand, its form disintegrating instantly.
"That was mine!" Palossand thought despairingly but hesitated. Tyranitar's imposing size and the memory of the sandcastle-eating scene flashed in its mind.
Safety first, it decided, and quietly fled.
"All right! Let's take a break!" Chris said to Greninja.
"Greninja!" Greninja agreed, propelling itself and Chris to the coast with an agile leap.
Chris retracted the racing boat and began walking back toward the villa. Half an hour of competitive boating had left him far more drained than two hours of typical exercise.
Near the villa's entrance, Blaziken was practicing on a charred training post. Its kicks had grown increasingly fluid, a combination of Blaze Kick and Double Kick forming a powerful Flaming Double Kick. The once-white training post was now thoroughly scorched.
"Keep it up!" Chris encouraged, admiring Blaziken's progress.
Inside the villa, Togepi and Wobbuffet were snoozing on the couch, likely tired from late-night gaming. Chris gently grabbed a blanket Aunt Jenn often used for TV watching and draped it over them.
In the kitchen, Hariyama was hard at work making breakfast. Ever since it had mastered kneading, Hariyama seemed to have discovered a passion for cooking. Beyond its usual training, it had taken to watching chef shows alongside dramas. Chris joked to himself that with Hariyama around, ordering takeout might soon become a thing of the past.
For breakfast, Hariyama served an egg cake, a glass of Moomoo Milk, and a fruit platter—nutritious and delicious!
Gardevoir gracefully placed the plate in front of Chris while using Confusion to levitate a bath towel over his damp body.
"Take a shower after breakfast."
Exercising, eating breakfast, and bathing had become a seamless morning routine for Chris. Once these were done, his day would officially begin.
For Chris, life revolved around games.
After his shower, Chris returned to his room, eager to lie down and dive into his favorite pastime. But as soon as he stretched out on the bed, there came a knock, knock! on the balcony window.
Curious, Chris pulled back the curtains to reveal a Pelipper waiting with a small pouch strapped around its waist. It knocked again, beak tapping lightly on the glass.
Sliding open the balcony door, Chris watched as Pelipper placed a package on the table and, with a flutter of its wings, flew off into the sky.
Chris picked up the package, which turned out to be an envelope. Inside was a small booklet resembling a driver's license. Embossed on the cover were three bold words: Pokémon Breeder, and in the corner, read: Elementary.
His qualification certificate as a Junior Breeder had finally arrived.
"Looks like I passed the breeder exam," Chris mused, stretching with satisfaction. He placed the certificate alongside his Trainer experience record.
The exam results had been available for a while, but Chris hadn't bothered to check them until now.
"Ding ding…" His phone rang—it was Olivia.
"Hello? Sister Olivia, what's up?"
"Congratulations! Your Junior Breeder certificate has arrived!" Olivia's cheerful voice greeted him.
Chris raised an eyebrow and instinctively glanced around the room.
"Don't bother looking," Olivia teased. "I didn't plant surveillance cameras in your house!"
Sure you didn't, Chris thought skeptically. "How do you know I'm looking for something, then?"
"I saw a Pelipper from the Breeders Association earlier. Figured it was delivering your certificate," Olivia replied with a knowing laugh. "As I said, there's a reward for enrolling in the Junior Breeder School in your first year. Send me your bank card number, and by the way, do you need help selecting a Pokémon from the academy?"
Chris rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I was thinking about taking a Bagon from the East Sea Dragon's Nest."
On the other end of the line, Olivia let out a loud groan, and Chris instinctively held the phone away from his ear.
"Apart from Bagon, I don't have any other specific Pokémon in mind right now," he said. He had his eye on the East Sea Dragon's Nest's unique resources, known for producing high-quality Pokémon.
"If it's ordinary Pokémon," Chris thought, "I'd rather hunt for them in the game—maybe find a Shiny or one with perfect IVs."
Olivia was silent for a moment. She was likely considering Chris's current team lineup: Garchomp, Tyranitar, Shiny Axew, Shiny Gardevoir…
Yeah, Olivia thought, a non-pseudo-legendary Pokémon wouldn't even catch his attention.
"Or," Chris proposed, "should I just cash out the reward?"
"I'll check on that for you," Olivia replied before ending the call.
Chris quickly sent her his bank card number. Though there was no immediate follow-up on the money or Pokémon, Olivia had already shared the good news in the class's group, congratulating both Chris and Xavier on passing the Junior Breeder exam.
"Xavier got in too?" Chris wasn't surprised. Xavier excelled at breeding and was also a natural Aura Guardian, boasting incredible combat ability. For him, passing the exam was practically a given.
Other classmates, however, hadn't been so lucky. Chris shook his head, wondering why they found the test so difficult—it was really quite simple.
As Chris set his phone aside, it buzzed again. This time, it was Amy, who had also heard the news. She congratulated him enthusiastically. After exchanging a few messages, they made plans for a late-night snack to celebrate. Chris tossed the phone onto the bed.
Grabbing his handheld console, Chris powered it on. Yesterday, he had spoken to the captain in-game; today, he was headed to Olivine City in the Johto Region.
"I wonder," Chris murmured as the game loaded, "if I've arrived there yet."
