The Wave Breaker, a sturdy vessel freshly repaired, stood ready at Slateport City. However, the captain had a commitment to fulfill: as promised half a year ago, his friend lan's wedding would take place aboard the ship.

"This isn't a short voyage," the captain explained, his voice steady yet warm. "It's a wedding trip, so the boat will move leisurely. We'll visit several small islands for sightseeing along the way. The entire journey might take two or three months, round trip."

Chris listened intently. The captain's words brought clarity to his situation: the Wave Breaker would sail to the Johto Region for lan's wedding, and as an invited guest, Chris had choices. He could join the trip to Johto, take a speedboat back a day after the wedding, or disembark early at Pacifidlog Town or Ever Grande City. Alternatively, he could wait the full two or three months for the captain to finish his duties before chartering the ship for his own journey.

Chris mulled over his options. "We're all grown-ups," he thought with a smirk. "Why should I limit myself? I'll do both!"

His decision made, Chris spoke aloud, "First, I'll go to the Johto Region. Then, I'll wait for the captain to finish his business before traveling to other regions."

There were three regions that Chris dreamed of visiting: Kalos, Alola, and Galar. Each region offered unique powers—Mega Evolution in Kalos, Z-Moves in Alola, and Dynamax in Galar. Exploring these regions was a necessary step to mastering their mysteries. Other regions could wait for now; once he became invincible, Chris would explore them leisurely, simply to enjoy the sights.

The Johto Region offered its own allure. Chris recalled the infamous red Gyarados that dwelled in the Lake of Rage, a treasure far superior to any Magikarp. If he could catch it, raising another Magikarp would be a waste of time. Johto was also home to Jasmine, the elegant Steel-type Gym Leader. According to the diary Chris had found back in Littleroot Town, Jasmine was no ordinary acquaintance—she was his childhood sweetheart, three years his senior, and their families had arranged a marriage for them.

Chris chuckled to himself. "A baby promise, huh? Female junior, hold golden bricks. Guess it's fate."

The diary revealed they were set to wed on Chris's 22nd birthday, aligning amusingly with the legal marriage age. At 18 now, Chris had four years to prepare. But there was no rush. He refocused his thoughts on the immediate future.

With seven days left before departure, Chris laid out a plan. First, he'd spend five days restoring the underground power plant to 100%. If he could train an Electric-type Pokémon, Ampharos would be the ideal choice, especially with its Mega Evolution potential. Then, he'd dedicate two days to exploring the Tree Fruit Dungeon, battling NPCs, and tackling the Volcano Challenge. On the way, he'd conquer the Fortree Gym and earn the Fly HM, which would save him from endless running around.

As the captain had mentioned, the Wave Breaker would stop at Pacifidlog Town and Ever Grande City before crossing the Hoenn border. With Fly in his arsenal, Chris could disembark as needed and rejoin the ship later, making the most of every opportunity on his journey.

Adventure awaited, and Chris's path was set.

This left Chris with more than enough time before the captain's departure. He realized he might even manage to challenge and clear the Psychic-type Gym in Mossdeep City within the week.

But for now, his focus sharpened.

"The underground power plant—Zapdos! Here I come!"

No. 7 Trial Island – Villa at the Foot of the Mountain – Theodore Laboratory

Inside the pristine lab, an experiment with Nosepass had just concluded. Researchers surrounded their mentor, brimming with excitement.

"Teacher, all indicators are completely normal, and the Thunder Wave obtained is fully consistent with our projections!"

"Our conclusions were absolutely correct!"

"With our theory validated, Electric and Steel Pokémon could elevate their electromagnetic abilities to unprecedented levels. Even some Rock Pokémon might gain access to powerful Electric-type moves!"

"Especially Pokémon like Probopass—it's going to become a global sensation!" one of the researchers exclaimed, unable to contain their enthusiasm. "If we submit this paper to the World Pokémon Alliance, you'll definitely receive the highest honors in the Pokémon breeding field this year!"

Their hard work had borne fruit, and the entire team buzzed with dreams of recognition and accolades. The joy in the room was palpable.

Theodore, however, remained calm, merely nodding at their excitement. His gaze lingered on his Probopass, a Shiny Pokémon with a striking red nose and black body. This Pokémon was one of his main partners, but its condition had been troubling him for some time. The shiny Probopass lay dormant, occasionally emitting faint, sporadic electric currents—almost imperceptible but ever-present.

Its Contest Condition was peculiar. Despite appearing to suffer from mild paralysis, traditional remedies such as berries or medicine offered no relief. This unique state, dubbed "Electromagnetic Disorder," was a condition that only afflicted Pokémon with both Electric and Steel typings. However, Theodore's Probopass was a pure Steel-type, complicating the issue further.

Efforts to treat it conventionally had yielded no results, and the niche nature of Pokémon like Probopass meant little research existed to aid him. Left with no other option, Theodore had delved into his own studies to address the disorder.

While his research had led to significant breakthroughs in understanding electromagnetism, and even new discoveries benefiting other Pokémon, there had been no improvement for his own Probopass.

Theodore sighed softly, his usual calm demeanor giving way to a moment of quiet reflection. His team's elation swirled around him, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

"It looks like the answer still lies far away," he murmured, his voice barely audible over the din. Turning to his jubilant team, he allowed himself a small smile. "Take two months off. After that, we'll go abroad to continue our work."

His gaze returned to the sleeping Probopass, the faint electric current dancing across its surface.

"For your sake, we'll find a solution—no matter how far we have to go."
