Kai reached for his waist and, in one swift motion, threw several Poké Balls simultaneously.

With a flash of blue light, Charmeleon, Blastoise, Jolteon, Ivysaur, and Kirlia emerged, surrounding the boy in an imposing formation.

'what the—?' The boy's stunned expression as he glanced between Kai's determined Pokémon and his own Farfetch'd was priceless.

"Didn't you say we'd battle according to the rules?!" he exclaimed.

Kai smirked. "I am. These are my rules," he said matter-of-factly. "I already told you I'm not exactly a saint. I don't play by the old rules. When it comes to dealing with annoying people, I believe in using strength to overwhelm and numbers to win!"

The boy was speechless for a moment before muttering, "You're shameless…"

"Ohh, thank you for the compliment," Kai said without a trace of shame or guilt. He gestured to his Pokémon. "Take him down!"

The Pokémon charged forward, easily overpowering the Farfetch'd. In the end, Ivysaur used its Vine Whip to bind the boy's wrists, making escape impossible.

Without hesitation, Kai called the police.

Panicked, the boy began pleading desperately, but Kai ignored him. When the boy's pleas turned to loud curses, Kai calmly picked up a small rock, stuffed it into the boy's mouth, and taped it shut, silencing him.

Not long after, Officer Jenny arrived on her motorcycle, skidding to a stop in front of Kai, exhaust fumes swirling dramatically around her.

"Who called the police?" she asked, her voice authoritative.

"That would be me," Kai replied, waving off the smoke and stepping forward.

After explaining the situation, Officer Jenny glared at the boy, her eyes blazing with anger. "Keith! I didn't think you'd still be causing trouble. No amount of begging will help you now. You're coming with me to the station!"

"Mmph!" Keith struggled, but Officer Jenny didn't loosen the vines restraining him. She snapped cold handcuffs onto his wrists and shoved him into the police car before speeding away.

"Bye-bye!"Kai watched her leave, his expression calm.

To him, this was just another small incident, a trivial problem dealt with swiftly and decisively.

However, before Officer Jenny departed, she had mentioned something intriguing.

Apparently, just outside Fuchsia City, a long sea-crossing bridge was under construction.

It connected to Sunnytown on the opposite shore. Using this route would save considerable travel time, and since Sunnytown was near Celadon City and Saffron City, Kai could detour to retrieve the Silph Scope Sabrina had lent him.

With no pressing need to challenge the Gym, Kai decided to adjust his plans and head toward Saffron City.

---

After passing through bustling Fuchsia City and its sprawling marketplaces, Kai finally reached the northern coastline.

Standing before him was the sea-crossing bridge, stretching endlessly over the horizon.

The massive structure, built from reinforced concrete and supported by hundreds of piers, spanned an impressive 20 kilometres.

Walking across it would take hours, well into the night.

At the bridge's entrance, Kai noticed fencing and security guards stationed nearby.

Though the bridge wasn't officially open, pedestrians and cyclists could still cross it.

As Kai approached, a security guard leaned out of the gatehouse.

"Planning to cross the bridge, sir?" he asked.

Kai nodded, but the guard shook his head. "Sorry, but walking isn't allowed. The bridge is too long. You'll need a bicycle to cross."

Kai frowned. He vaguely recalled this rule but wasn't ready to give up just yet. "Can't you make an exception?"

The guard offered a sheepish smile. "Sorry, rules are rules."

Sighing, Kai was considering having Blastoise ferry him across the water when a noisy group of teenagers suddenly appeared.

They rode modified bicycles, their loud voices and rowdy energy drawing everyone's attention.

Some carried flags, waving them dramatically as they sped toward the bridge like a gang of reckless bikers.

The guard groaned. "Them again. These bikers come here every day, causing a ruckus. It's exhausting."

Kai raised an eyebrow at the sight of the so-called bicycle gang. "Bicycle delinquents…? That's a new low."

The guard shrugged. "What can you do? They're just kids, maybe 17 or 18 years old. They don't have the money for motorcycles, but give them time they'll graduate to being full-blown road hooligans."

Kai observed the group and nodded. "They're noisy, but does no one try to stop them?"

"They're annoying but technically not breaking the law," the guard explained. "They just ride up and down the bridge. Arresting them would cause a riot with their parents."

Kai watched as the gang came to a stop nearby. A bold idea struck him.

Stepping forward, Kai blocked their path.

One of the gang members sneered. "Hey, who do you think you are? Move it!"

Kai grinned, holding up a Poké Ball. "I need a bicycle to cross the bridge. How about a challenge? If I win, you lend me a bike."

The leader, a young man with a flaming red afro, removed his sunglasses and scoffed. "You? Challenge us? Do you even know who we are?"

"Nope," Kai said cheerfully, his tone irritatingly smug. "But are you in or out?"

The leader smirked, jerking his thumb toward a nearby clearing. "Oh, we're in. Follow me to our battleground. No one's dared challenge us before you're in for a surprise!"
