Night.

The night was like water.

It was almost eleven o'clock, and the dormitory was extremely quiet. Only the sound of the air conditioner blowing cold air could be heard, while Alex's roommates slept soundly, having fallen asleep early and deeply.

Alex didn't sleep. Leaning against the headboard, he cradled Jirachi, waiting for midnight.

"Jirachi, you won't have to go back," Alex reassured.

Jirachi lay in Alex's arms, holding his fingers with her small hands, looking very aggrieved and pitiful. Tonight at midnight marked the seventh day since Jirachi's advent. Although Alex was confident that he could prevent Jirachi from being taken away by a meteor and forced to sleep for a thousand years, this was an innate world rule that still worried Jirachi greatly.

She was unwilling to leave Alex. She wanted to stay with him forever, to play, to get into mischief, to share lollipops, and to watch Charmeleon perform its tricks.

"Jirachi, trust me. This time, the meteor won't take you away," Alex said, gently touching Jirachi's tiny head. It was soft and warm, and felt wonderful. The three wish tags on her head hadn't been used yet and still swayed lightly.

The system's guarantee gave Alex confidence. The previous rewards for breaking the world's rules were enough for Alex to believe in the system. The Poké Ball from the system could protect Jirachi, ensuring she wouldn't be taken away by the will of the world, back to the meteor to continue sleeping.

"Alex..." Jirachi murmured, having awakened memories of past joys and sorrows over the past few days. She didn't want to keep repeating the cycle of separation from those she loved.

As midnight approached, Jirachi's mood became increasingly somber. Seeing this, Alex grabbed two Poké Balls and quietly left the dormitory.

Upstairs, he pried open a door and went to the roof. The night wind was cool, more refreshing on the face than the air conditioner.

"Alex, what are we doing on the rooftop?" Jirachi asked, puzzled.

Alex didn't speak.

He simply released Riolu and Charmeleon. The two little Pokémon had been resting, and when they emerged, their eyes were sleepy. Upon seeing Alex, they immediately greeted him.

"Roar!"

"Master!"

"Oolu!"

"Good evening, Master."

"Good evening, Jirachi," Riolu and Charmeleon chimed in. Seeing that they were called out so late, the two little ones thought Jirachi might have lost sleep and offered comfort, making Jirachi smile despite herself, her heart warming.

"Everyone, give me a big smile," Alex encouraged.

Jirachi's eyes almost turned into poached eggs, her heart sour and on the verge of tears.

Seeing this, Alex quickly lifted Jirachi over his head and placed her atop his own, pointing at the stars in the sky. Bright and romantic, with shooting stars passing by at intervals, the sight was captivating.

Alex knew those meteors were the messengers meant to take Jirachi back to her cosmic slumber.

"Jirachi, look. Isn't it beautiful to see the stars from Earth?" he asked.

Time passed slowly. Alex remained unworried, but Jirachi was tense. As midnight passed, she feared being taken away by the meteor, leaving Alex and everyone else behind. Her mood was low, and she looked unhappy, which tugged at Alex's heartstrings.

To ease Jirachi's spirits, Alex took her to see the stars. The sky, full of bright stars, was stunning. Compared to the starry sea he could no longer see in his previous life, Alex was also captivated. Recently, he'd been too focused on leveling up to appreciate the beauty of this new world, but now he had a moment to savor it, thanks to Jirachi.

"What a beautiful view," Jirachi admitted. Though she hailed from the cosmic stars, she'd never seen such a beautiful starry sky while awake.

Gradually, she became engrossed in the elegant and romantic starry sky. Unknowingly, midnight passed.

A huge meteor shower appeared in the distance, conspicuous in the starry sky. Alex immediately noticed Jirachi tremble atop his head, worried and afraid.

Alex held Jirachi in his arms, comforting her. "Jirachi, don't worry. I promised you wouldn't be taken away by meteors."

"Okay," Jirachi replied, pressing against Alex's chest, her large eyes fixed on his face, trying to remember it just in case.

The meteor shower came and went quickly. Yet, Jirachi found herself still in Alex's arms, not whisked away by the meteor to fall into deep slumber.

"Did it work?" Jirachi exclaimed, pleasantly surprised. She wriggled free from Alex's embrace and flew into the air, dancing joyfully, releasing all her prior sadness and nervousness.

Alex didn't stop Jirachi. Standing on the rooftop, he watched her silently.

"She's so cute," he thought, his face full of happiness, looking every bit the doting guardian.

Charmeleon and Riolu didn't understand what had happened but stood beside Alex, watching Jirachi. The little Pokémon was cherished within the team, even by the newly born Riolu.

"Meteors can't take her away. She'll stay," Alex smiled, watching Jirachi.

Under the night sky, he enjoyed the rare peace. Jirachi stayed, and Alex's journey would continue.

At the same time, Alex used the daily refresh opportunity, and what should have been an ordinary shelf unexpectedly illuminated with a dazzling red light.

"Holy cow!" Alex exclaimed. "Championship merchandise! Today is my lucky day!"
