Chapter 349: Chapter 410: Breakthrough
Having taken down Diancie with Leaf Storm, Tornadus turned its full fury on Shaymin, drastically increasing the pressure on it.
Seeing that Diancie had lost the ability to fight, Rex quickly recalled her into her Poké Ball.
Once Tornadus shifted its focus entirely to Shaymin, Rex took the opportunity to release Diancie again. Her body was covered in deep cuts from the wind blades, her stamina depleted, and she had fallen unconscious.
Without hesitation, Rex began channeling his healing ability into Diancie. As waves of life energy entered her body, her wounds began to rapidly close.
"Diancie!"
As she recovered, Diancie slowly opened her eyes, a little dazed as she looked around.
"You're awake. Here, eat this Rainbow Energy Cube to regain your strength."
Seeing her conscious again, Rex handed over the prepared cube.
Now fully alert, Diancie ate the Rainbow Energy Cube and immediately used her psychic power to lift herself toward the battlefield—she had sensed that Shaymin was barely holding on under Tornadus's relentless assault.
Alone, Shaymin was clearly being overwhelmed. Without Diancie sharing the burden, its injuries were mounting quickly.
Finally, just as a powerful wind blade was about to strike Shaymin down, Diancie appeared in front of it and blocked the attack.
"Shaymin!"
Shaymin cried out gratefully, happy that Diancie had returned in time.
Tornadus was visibly shocked that its blow had been intercepted. It was certain it had already dealt with Diancie—how could she recover so quickly?
Its gaze turned toward Rex, who stood on the back of Gyarados. Clearly, it realized the human had done something to heal her.
Deciding not to take further chances, Tornadus aimed to eliminate Rex next. It summoned the storm itself and hurled it toward him.
But Rex remained calm. He still had Gyarados and Machamp at his side and trusted they would protect him.
With a mighty sweep of its tail, Gyarados unleashed Aqua Tail, pulling water from the ocean and smashing it into the oncoming storm. Though it was quickly dispersed, it significantly reduced the force of the attack.
Then Machamp stepped in front of Rex, deflecting the wind blades with rapid strikes of its four arms. Those that slipped through, it absorbed with its body.
Watching Tornadus bypass them and target their trainer, Diancie and Shaymin were furious. In unison, they launched powerful attacks infused with origin energy at the legendary Pokémon.
Tornadus, who had been preparing to strike again, found itself overwhelmed and had no choice but to defend itself against the incoming blasts, temporarily abandoning its pursuit of Rex.
Once again, the battle returned to a standstill. But Rex knew they were merely dragging things out—Diancie and Shaymin couldn't defeat Tornadus fast enough.
If things continued like this, all his risks would be for nothing. Rex Farm would inevitably be swallowed by the floods.
Then, Rex noticed the Mega Diancie Stone hanging from Diancie's neck. He quickly pulled out his Key Stone bracelet from his bag and strapped it onto his wrist.
The only breakthrough he could see now was to trigger Mega Evolution. He'd tried numerous times to connect his Key Stone with Diancie's Mega Stone, but had never succeeded in syncing their energy.
As he slipped the bracelet on, Diancie turned toward him, sensing his intent.
She understood what Rex was trying to do—but their repeated failures to achieve Mega Evolution still lingered in her mind, leaving her unsure.
"Diancie, to protect our home… we have to go all in!"
Rex raised his arm high, shouting with resolve.
Abandoning all hesitation, he poured all his remaining life energy and aura—honed through waveguide training—into the Key Stone.
He could even feel his stamina being drained; the emptiness spreading through his body was something he hadn't felt in a long time.
The Key Stone responded to his will, glowing brightly. A beam of light shot from it straight toward Diancie.
Diancie, already attuned, soared toward Rex. Her Mega Stone responded in kind, firing a beam of light from her necklace.
As the two beams met, Rex felt his heart link with Diancie's—they were fully in sync. He could sense her thoughts, her will, her determination.
Brilliant light enveloped Diancie. Moments later, she emerged, radiant and transformed—Mega Diancie had arrived.
Her diamond on top had become heart-shaped, two white veils flowed from her jeweled crown, and three arc-shaped bands appeared around her neck, waist, and skirt-like structure.
Her lower body had been replaced by a massive gem surrounded by slender crystalline blades, each tipped with tiny octahedral diamonds.
Though her aura surged with newfound power, it was clear Mega Diancie was still adjusting to the transformation—this was her first time undergoing Mega Evolution.
Mega Evolution had a time limit, and Rex feared Diancie couldn't maintain it for long. He quickly relayed his thoughts to her through their mental link.
Sensing his urgency, Diancie raised both arms and summoned a far more powerful Diamond Storm than before. With a roar, the glowing crystals surged toward Tornadus.
There was no way to dodge it—the sheer scale of the attack left Tornadus nowhere to run. It braced itself as the storm smashed into it and sent it hurtling straight into the towering waterspout.
The once-impenetrable vortex was torn apart, leaving a massive gap through which Rex could finally see the world beyond.
Having unleashed such a devastating move, Diancie fell out of Mega form. Her strength completely drained, she collapsed from the sky.
Thankfully, Shaymin caught her mid-air with psychic power and gently floated her down to Rex.
Without the support of Tornadus and Thundurus's origin energy, the structure of the waterspout collapsed after being struck. It began to dissolve, slowly unraveling into mist until finally vanishing altogether.
The raging ocean calmed as if soothed in an instant. Even the dark clouds above began to fade, and rays of sunlight pierced through, illuminating the sea below.
