"The Indigo League Tournament Finals! Begin now!"

"Seadra! Show your opponent what you're made of! Use Water Gun, rapid fire!"

"Raa!"

Right from the start, an enraged Lance chose to strike first. Floating in the circular pool, Seadra rapidly sprayed out streams of water from its triangular snout.

That's right—multiple streams. Each Water Gun wasn't particularly powerful on its own, but the sheer quantity was overwhelming. In just a flash, nearly ten jets of water had already been fired. Clearly, this Seadra had undergone rigorous and specialized training.

"Go, Nidoking! Block it with Shadow Claw!"

Liam calmly called out to Nidoking in the face of the barrage of attacks.

"Nido!!"

Dark, shadowy claws extended from both of Nidoking's arms—three jagged claws each. He swung them swiftly, slashing apart the incoming Water Gun attacks. Water splashed in all directions as the streams were sliced apart.

Seadra's method of attack was fast and numerous, but without a strong force behind them, the attacks lacked true power. That's why Liam wasn't the least bit worried about Nidoking's ability to defend.

"Our turn! Say hello with a strike! Nidoking, Poison Sting! "

"Nido!!"

The Shadow Claws faded from his hands. Nidoking opened his massive jaws wide, and a volley of purple poison needles shot out like a rainstorm, aiming straight at Seadra in the pool.

"Seadra! Use Bubble Beam!"

"Raa!!"

At Lance's command, Seadra's snout fired out a series of shimmering, transparent bubbles. They glittered mid-air and collided with the incoming poison needles, canceling each other out.

"Now's our chance! Seadra, Twister!"

"Seadra!"

As the Bubble Beam and Poison Sting canceled each other out, Lance shouted his next command.

Seadra raised its head high and began to spin rapidly, creating a vortex centered around itself. The speed increased dramatically until a full-blown waterspout surged up around it. 

Seadra then directed the watery cyclone toward Nidoking, hurling it from the pool at high speed.

Though Seadra hadn't evolved into Kingdra and gained the Dragon typing yet, it was still capable of using certain Dragon-type moves. Twister was one of them.

Facing the oncoming cyclone, Liam gave a slight smile and called out to Nidoking.

"Nidoking, use Surf!"

"Nido!"

Twister had a wide range, and the only move Nidoking had to counter it—besides Protect—was Surf.

With a low growl, Nidoking summoned a massive wave beneath him. It lifted his body high into the air, and then crashed into the advancing Twister.

The powerful wave shattered the cyclone within seconds. But the wave didn't stop—it kept surging forward, barreling toward Seadra.

"Dive underwater, Seadra!"

Lance shouted urgently.

"Raa!"

With a quick response, Seadra turned and vanished beneath the surface. The wave slammed down on the pool, but it failed to hit the target hidden below.

"Think hiding underwater will save you? Nidoking, Thunderbolt!"

"Nido!"

Leaping down from the wave, Nidoking landed heavily on the pool's edge. Golden electricity surged from his purple body, gathering into a bolt that struck the water directly.

"No! Seadra, use Agility! Dodge it!"

Seeing the electrical charge spread across Nidoking's body, Lance suddenly realized what was happening and shouted at the pool—though it was unclear if Seadra could hear him.

The Thunderbolt hit the water, instantly electrifying the entire pool. In the very next moment, a deep blue blur shot out from the surface with a splash, landing on the far side of the pool.

"Nicely done, Seadra!"

"Raa! Raa..."

It was indeed Seadra, and it seemed to have avoided the brunt of the Thunderbolt with its speed.

"Raa..."

But not entirely. Though Seadra didn't appear seriously harmed, faint sparks still crackled across its body, and it let out a cry of pain—its face showing signs of discomfort.

"Paralyzed? Looks like it got hit after all—barely fast enough to avoid the full blast, but that's enough. Now it's paralyzed and grounded—it won't be able to dodge this! Nidoking, use Hyper Beam!"

"Return, Seadra!"

Liam: "..."

"Raa..."

A beam of red light recalled Seadra back into its PokéBall, and Liam's command went unsaid.

"You used Surf to push Seadra underwater, then followed up with Thunderbolt. I got careless. That won't happen again! Come out, Charizard!"

Looking slightly regretful, Lance returned Seadra's PokéBall and turned to Liam with renewed focus. He threw another PokéBall.

"ROAR!!"

This time, it was a familiar face—Lance's trusted Charizard. Upon entering the battlefield, it immediately unleashed a torrent of flames into the sky.

A common habit among Charizards...

"Trainer Lance has completed his Pokémon switch! His second Pokémon is Charizard! Both sides are ready! Let the battle continue!"

"Go, Nidoking! Charge in with Shadow Claw!"

"Nido!"

At Liam's command, Nidoking charged toward Charizard. The shadowy claws reappeared on both arms, scraping along the ground as he ran.

"Charizard! Use Dragon Claw!"

Lance raised his fist and shouted confidently.

"ROAR!!"

Charizard let out a fierce cry. Sharp, glowing Dragon claws formed on both of its front limbs, and it fearlessly met Nidoking head-on. Both Pokémon raised their claws high, and in the very next instant—

A fierce clash!

"ROAR!"

"NIDOO!!"

Dragon Claw met Shadow Claw. But whether it was in terms of base power or the physical strength of the Pokémon, Nidoking was at a disadvantage. 

After several fierce clashes, Nidoking's right Shadow Claw shattered and dissolved.

"Now's our chance, Charizard! Use Fire Fang!"

Seeing Nidoking lose both offense and defense, Lance instantly seized the opportunity.

"ROAR!!"

Flames surged from Charizard's mouth, trailing like twin ribbons behind its jaws. Four searing-hot flame fangs formed in its mouth, which it then sank into Nidoking's shoulder.

"Nido!"

Nidoking cried out in pain from the searing bite.

"Nidoking! Thunderbolt!!"

Watching Nidoking being bitten, Liam gritted his teeth and stepped forward, shouting the command.

"NIDOOOO!!"

Nidoking suddenly threw both arms around Charizard, locking it in a tight embrace. Then, a wild surge of electricity burst from his body, enveloping Charizard in an instant.

"ROOOAR!!"

Electricity coursed through every muscle—Charizard roared in agony, eyes to the sky.

"Charizard! Hang in there! Use Seismic Toss!"

Seeing his Pokémon in pain, Lance's eyes flashed with determination. He shouted the command without hesitation.

"ROOOAR!!!"

Eyes tightly shut from the electric assault, Charizard suddenly snapped them open at Lance's voice, filled with unwavering resolve. It grabbed hold of Nidoking, and before Nidoking could react, Charizard flapped its massive wings and shot into the sky, spinning several times mid-air.

"Nidoking! Break free! Use Thunderbolt again!"

"Nido!"

As they spiraled through the air, Nidoking unleashed another powerful electrical surge—but this time, Charizard didn't even flinch. Without a sound, it continued its arc through the sky, preparing to dive...
