Chapter 97: Pokemon: I Transmigrated Twice [97]
Karen and Lorelei simultaneously recalled their Torracat and Alolan Sandslash.
The scene was immediately filled with applause, with the most excited among the crowd being Kukui, Burnet, and the other locals of Alola.
Karen's performance made them see her as not just an outstanding trainer but also the future of Alola.
Even though Karen hadn't agreed to become one of Alola's Elite Four.
The banquet continued, and Lorelei started chatting with Stephen and his group.
"Those moves just now—did the Pokémon learn them through TMs?" Lorelei asked curiously, her arms crossed over her chest, unintentionally accentuating a certain area.
If not for Stephen's past life in a world full of, shall we say, overwhelming visuals, he might've found it hard to maintain his composure.
"What are you staring at?" Karen squinted at Will.
"I—I wasn't staring! Don't accuse me of that!" Will quickly turned his head away.
"That's right. Miss Lorelei, if you don't mind, please accept this."
Stephen took something out of his pocket and handed it to Lorelei.
"This is..."
Lorelei froze for a moment as she looked at the dark brown disc in her hand.
"This is a TM containing the move Earthquake. I figured you could make good use of it." Stephen smiled lightly.
For a trainer specializing in Ice-types like Lorelei, weaknesses were a glaring issue. After all, Ice-types had several weaknesses—Fire, Rock, Fighting, and Steel.
But Ground-types could help counter three of those.
"Thank you so much, Dr. Stephen," Lorelei expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
Even as a member of the Elite Four, she knew how much time and effort it took to teach a Pokémon a move that wasn't part of their natural typing.
Let alone a high-powered move like Earthquake.
If her Alolan Sandslash had been able to use Earthquake earlier, the battle wouldn't have been so one-sided.
"Dr. Stephen, I'm a bit curious. How are TMs made? Do they… hurt Pokémon in the process?" Lorelei hesitated as she asked.
She was well aware that research often required experiments, which sometimes involved using Pokémon as test subjects—a practice she abhorred.
Hearing this, Stephen smiled. "Haha, don't worry about that. TMs indeed require extracting Pokémon DNA, but only a tiny bit—like, for example, the Earthquake TM in your hand was made using DNA from a Donphan's toenail. It doesn't harm the Pokémon at all."
...Though it's a bit rough on the researchers, Stephen added silently to himself.
"I see. Dr. Stephen, you truly are an outstanding scientist," Lorelei said with a smile, nodding in respect for the first time.
Previously, Lorelei had been wary of researchers because many scientific experiments inevitably involved Pokémon.
Although she understood that such things were sometimes necessary—after all, you couldn't very well use humans as test subjects—she still deeply resented those practices.
Now, meeting a genius scientist who could invent groundbreaking tools like TMs without harming Pokémon, she couldn't help but feel a newfound admiration for him.
As Lorelei slightly bowed in gratitude, the curves beneath her office attire became even more pronounced.
...
After Lorelei left, Karen pouted unhappily.
"Why did you give her such a rare TM?"
"Don't be like that. She helped your Torracat evolve by giving it some valuable battle experience. Besides, you might even become colleagues someday—it's just building goodwill in advance," Stephen chuckled.
In the future, after Red ascended to the top of the Indigo League, he resigned after just two years as Champion, passing the title to Lance.
With Lorelei and Agatha retiring not long after, Karen, Will, and Koga stepped up, becoming the second generation of the Indigo League Elite Four.
From that perspective, Karen and Lorelei really could be considered future colleagues.
Still, Stephen couldn't quite figure out why Lorelei had retired. Agatha stepping down due to old age made sense, but Lorelei was so young—why would she quit?
"Who'd want to work with that milk cow anyway?"
Karen pouted, exuding an air of mutual repulsion.
"Who are you trying to impress growing up like that?"
Will muttered quietly, "Sour grapes from someone who can't reach the grapes..."
"What did you say!?"
Karen immediately reached out, ready to smack Will.
Will quickly hid behind Stephen.
"Brother Stephen, how many of those TM do you still have? I want to buy some."
At this moment, Rose showed up, saving Will's life.
"President Rose, you're too polite. If you want some, I can give you a few for free."
"No, no, no. I need quite a lot, so I should pay for them," Rose replied with a smile, shaking his head. Then, his secretary, Olivia, handed Stephen a list.
Will, with a slightly bruised eye, and Karen leaned in from either side.
Good grief!
Dragon Dance - 100 units!
Flamethrower - 300 units!
Ice Beam - 300 units!
Solar Beam - 500 units!
...
All were high-powered moves, and the quantity for each was in the triple digits!
"President Rose, for this amount, you should discuss it with Aunt Lusamine instead," Stephen said with a smile.
"Old Man, are you here to restock your inventory?" Will teased.
"I want to establish a branch of Rainbow Corporation in Galar to sell the TM," Rose explained. He was well aware of how important these items were to trainers. With them, the overall strength of the Galar League could be improved by leaps and bounds.
"The other moves are fine, but for Dragon Dance, we need Dragonite DNA. I'm afraid it will take some time to gather enough stock, President Roe," Lusamine said as she approached and joined the discussion.
"Dragonite DNA for Dragon Dance, huh... That's indeed rare," Nanu thought silently to himself while munching on a piece of cake, quietly observing the scene.
"Mr. Nanu, can I have a word with you?" At this moment, Goodshow approached Nanu.
"The Joker investigation is now in your hands, 000," Goodshow said solemnly after they moved to the lounge next to the banquet hall.
000 was Nanu's codename as an international police officer. As everyone knew, anyone with the codename "Zero" was no ordinary individual.
"President, you don't need to use my codename when we're not working," Nanu said wearily.
"There's no one else here," Goodshow said, gesturing for Nanu to relax before his expression turned serious again.
"In any case, the Joker investigation is yours now."
Nanu scratched his head. "Ahh, another super troublesome mission."
For the past few years, he had been serving as the captain of the Ultra Beast Hunting Squad, fighting against the Ultra Beasts that frequently invaded Alola.
"With great power comes great responsibility. After thinking it over, you're the only one I can trust for this task, as the ace of the international police," Goodshow said with a smile, patting Nanu on the shoulder.
Nanu rolled his eyes and asked, "And if Ultra Beasts invade Alola again, who's going to handle them?"
"Aren't those three little guys there?" Goodshow pointed to the room next door.
Nanu blinked.
Emmm... Fine.
