Chapter 563: An Elite Four Arrives! Top Coordinator Gathers
Take for example the Water Type "Surfing" event — even Trainers understand that it tests the fundamental skills of their Water Type Pokémon. While it's not a battle per se, few would be foolish enough to complain about fairness.
What's more, it's said that the winners of the 17 events this time will go on to compete in traditional battles.
This — this is actually what everyone was paying the most attention to.
Those who stand out from the 17 events, whether they're Coordinators or Trainers, will compete in a format of faction-versus-faction battles.
In other words, it will be something like the standout Coordinators versus the standout Trainers in head-to-head matches. Just this alone was enough to excite countless people. Winning one of the events means… they'll be representing the "Coordinator" or "Trainer" faction in a pinnacle showdown. The very thought of it was thrilling.
Chisana and Kikka followed Mr. Fuego to a place that resembled a high platform, and then suddenly froze — the three of them saw the lively scene down below.
It was… a person, a young man who looked rather mature, surrounded by a large crowd.
"What's going on?" Seeing the scene, Fuego paused and quickly picked up his phone. The crowd below was dense — this kind of gathering wasn't a good sign.
This area soon caught the attention of Officer Jennys, and was quickly brought under control. After a short while, the crowd was dispersed, and the young man, due to his special status, was treated as a VIP.
"Mr. Fuego, who is that person?" Chisana and Kikka both found the man unfamiliar and couldn't recall who he was, no matter how hard they tried.
As for Mr. Fuego, upon receiving the information, gave a wry smile and said, "One of the participants representing the Trainers… let's just say… he's a surprise."
"Huh? Who is he?" Chisana asked curiously.
After a moment of silence, Fuego replied, "From the Unova region, a former Elite Four. He specializes in Electric-type Pokemon."
Elite Four…
Chisana and Kikka both fell silent, and then exclaimed in unison, "Someone like that is participating?!"
The title "Elite Four" — that's not something even a Top Coordinator can compare to.
Unless it's… the title of Contest Master held by Wallace. As for Top Coordinator — they're not even close. The gap is vast, so wide it's practically impossible to bridge.
You have to understand — even the Champion of the Ever Grande Conference holds a higher social status than a Top Coordinator.
"Yeah, no one expected this. It's a surprise," Fuego said, clearly still taken aback. He certainly knew how much of a variable the appearance of an Elite Four member would be for this festival.
"Never thought… it would be a former Elite Four member from the Unova region…" Fuego sighed.
Lost in the shock of an Elite Four showing up, Chisana and Kikka ended up waiting there for nearly half an hour. Gradually, the crowd in the plaza grew larger, and the time for the official start of the festival was drawing nearer.
Several giant screens standing in different corners of the plaza lit up all at once, ready to broadcast the main events.
By then, Mr. Fuego had gone off to take care of his own matters. Chisana and Kikka stayed where they were… and finally, something caught their eyes.
At around 9:40 AM, several figures slowly emerged from a quiet, less-traveled path near the main stage…
That path, though already closed to the public, still drew attention from many onlookers. After all, the restriction itself was suspiciously odd.
Plenty of people had already guessed what the path was being used for.
"Look—It's… Top Coordinator Miss Abby!"
"And that's Top Coordinator Miss Yuma."
"Isn't that Lady Fantina, the Gym Leader of Hearthome Gym in the Sinnoh region? She actually came… and she's even wearing the Coordinator's identity card!"
The consecutive appearances of several Coordinators instantly increased the workload of the police officers.
Even the sudden arrival of just one person wouldn't normally cause such a stir. But the simultaneous appearance of several — over a dozen Top Coordinators — was simply too impactful. Many among them were already celebrities or actors.
And of course, nearby were fans and supporters of these Top Coordinators!
Terrance was wearing a white jacket with red trim over a black short-sleeved shirt — the outfit felt pretty breezy to him. But for such an important occasion, his dress was undeniably casual.
Ahead of him, Lady Fantina's elegant purple gown gave Terrance pause, and then there was Wallace's formal attire he'd seen earlier… Compared to them, he definitely looked more laid-back.
"Look, it's Senior Terrance!" Kikka tugged at Chisana's sleeve and whispered quickly.
"I see him, I see him," Chisana responded.
And it wasn't just Terrance — one, two, three… numerous Top Coordinators were arriving together via that quiet path, undisturbed, making their way to the main stage as the start of the festival approached.
Faced with the enthusiasm of the surrounding regular Coordinators and the frenzy of their fans, these Top Coordinators all wore smiles — though some looked more like wry smiles. If they hadn't already anticipated this kind of reception, they wouldn't have chosen such a special method of arriving at the opening ceremony as the festival began.
There were three announcers for this festival:
Vivian, Lilian, and Marian.
Each of them was the announcer for Pokémon Contests in different regions, but now, they had all gathered here to jointly serve as commentators for this festival.
As fireworks soared into the sky, the festival officially began at exactly 10 a.m.
Even though it was daytime, these fireworks — created through the combined efforts of Pokémon — were still breathtakingly beautiful.
The atmosphere among the crowd was clearly electric. The Contest Committee had prepared thoroughly. The Sootopolis Plaza was spacious enough that even those far from the main stage could still clearly see and hear everything through the massive screens positioned at various angles.
All eyes were focused on the three announcers.
But while the crowd's full attention was on the announcers, Terrance's mind had already drifted. He hadn't expected to see so many Top Coordinators gathered here.
Among them… there were even people he knew.
Abby — that girl he met during his very first Pokémon Contest? She had become a Top Coordinator too?
And besides himself, there was even someone with a Gym Leader background?
No — more accurately, Wallace, Terrance, and Fantina were all technically Gym Leaders.
The title of Gym League is usually more closely associated with traditional Trainers, but the three of them were here participating as Coordinators. Terrance couldn't help but think that things were going to get very interesting.
What's more, just earlier, Terrance had caught wind of a rumor — that a former Elite Four member from a region had appeared. That left Terrance feeling a bit helpless. Despite the large number of Top Coordinators here, Terrance knew their skill levels varied wildly. At the very least, his current self could easily defeat ten versions of himself from when he first became a Top Coordinator.
So, this festival—
Sigh, it's really going to be tough.
