Chapter 559: *Title Hidden*
Two days later, Hoenn Region, Fallarbor Town.
After four months, Terrance returned once again.
There were now only three days left until the joint Trainer and Coordinator Super Grand Festival. [TN: Author has been using different terms to mention it in the previous chapters, i.e. festival or super festival.]
Two days earlier, Terrance had just received a message from Mr. Raoul Contesta. Once Terrance confirmed that he would be attending on time, Mr. Contesta told him to be sure to contact him upon arriving in Sootopolis City—his accommodations had already been arranged by the Contest Committee.
Back in Fallarbor Town, Terrance allowed himself a rare moment of relaxation. But with only three days remaining, he couldn't truly rest.
His research into Totem Aura was still only half-complete. He had arranged with Master Victor to resume their discussions after the festival. In the meantime, Terrance had contacted Crown Academy.
He wanted to consult with Teacher Teresa about whether there were any food recipes that could increase a Pokémon's size in a positive way—without affecting their health.
However, there had been an unexpected development at Crown Academy.
Terrance received word that Teacher Teresa had taken Akon and the two had embarked on a private training journey mission. They had yet to return.
"A training journey mission?" Terrance frowned, then gave up on that path and instead turned to Master Victor for help.
Although Master Victor was a Top Breeder, his expertise in food may not surpass that of Teacher Teresa—this is a matter of "professional specialization."
Master Victor said he would keep an eye out for anything that might help, and with that, Terrance temporarily pushed the matter to the back of his mind. With only three days left, it was unlikely there would be any meaningful progress. Rather than that, the more practical thing was to continue honing his Pokémon's strength, ensuring they would be in peak condition for the upcoming festival.
Mismagius, who had only just rejoined the team, had not only mastered a new illusion skill but had also undergone an astonishing overall power boost.
Furthermore, the four previous illusion skills had all been refined to near perfection. Mismagius's rapid growth had genuinely shocked his other Pokémon. Because of this, Terrance was increasingly looking forward to seeing what kind of performance they would all put on at the upcoming festival.
"I just wonder what the format of this festival will be…" Terrance pondered.
Since it was a festival involving both Coordinators and Trainers, it would likely be a fusion of elements from both sides, right?
…
The next day.
Terrance received a strange message, and it took him a long time to remember the sender's identity.
Researcher Kennard.
One of the key figures in charge of fossil resurrection events at the Devon Corporation.
Back during the time he participated in the Grand Festival, Terrance had entrusted a fossil—one he had found in the Desert Ruins of Hoenn's vast desert—to Kennard. Now, after all this time, there was finally an update.
After more than a year, Devon's fossil resurrection technology had nearly reached maturity. If a fossil met the necessary conditions and the level of completeness required, the probability of successful revival was now essentially one hundred percent.
And the fossil Terrance had left with them had finally been analyzed and its species identified.
Back then, when the technology was still underdeveloped, fossil revival carried considerable risk, and Kennard had advised him against proceeding. But now, with Devon's research foundation far more robust, they were contacting Terrance to ask for his decision.
Terrance had nearly forgotten about that fossil himself. If the message hadn't arrived, he might've still not remembered it.
"Larvitar?"
Terrance was momentarily stunned when he saw the message. No wonder… no wonder that fossil had been unusually heavy.
Thinking back, he still had a faint impression of the fossil. Its weight was one thing, but as for its shape, it had resembled a curled-up Pokémon. However, the specifics had long become unrecognizable due to heavy weathering. Moreover, the fossil's shape had been quite irregular. For example, in two spots, there were diamond-shaped indentations—the reason for which remained unknown.
Based on those diamond-shaped indentations, Terrance had even speculated before.
Anorith—he had once believed the fossil might revive into that Pokémon.
But the fossil's weight and estimated age didn't align.
Anorith is an extremely ancient Pokémon, practically an ancestral species of modern Pokémon. However, the fossil Terrance had found dated back only a few thousand years. By that time, Anorith should have already gone extinct.
So the remaining possibility was Larvitar. And Larvitar's body structure did share some similarities with the fossil.
Larvitar is, after all, a Rock-type Pokémon. Terrance didn't know what circumstances could have caused it to become fossilized, but the result—well, it was an unexpected surprise that made sense in hindsight.
"A Larvitar fossil, huh…" Terrance stared at the message content in silence for a moment.
He now had two options:
The first was to sell the fossil to Devon. In return, he would receive a hefty sum of money—after all, Larvitar fossils were extremely rare. Once revived, the Pokémon would hold significant research value. Tyranitar was, after all, one of the most ferocious Pokémon in the Johto region, known as the "Sandstorm Monarch."
As for the second option… that was to have the fossil revived and returned directly to Terrance afterward.
Researcher Kennard stated that they could revive the fossil for free for Terrance. Now that the technology had matured, they could guarantee a 100% success rate.
"Free, huh…" Terrance wasn't sure if it was because of his status as a Gym Leader, or perhaps due to his relationship with Steven, but after giving it some serious thought, he decided not to sell the fossil.
The Larvitar fossil intrigued him—he was genuinely curious what kind of Larvitar would emerge from it.
With his current resources, he was more than capable of raising even a Tyranitar or Snorlax!
"I used to think the 'Sandstorm' secret technique was a bit wasted on Castform. Compared to moves like 'Rain Dance,' 'Sunny Day,' or 'Hail,' 'Sandstorm' really didn't have much synergy with it. But now… it looks like that 'Sandstorm' secret technique has finally found a worthy purpose."
That was actually the main reason Terrance decided not to sell the fossil—he possessed top-tier methods for raising a Tyranitar, including a secret technique for the "Sandstorm" move, enough for it to serve as the core of its combat strength and develop a truly terrifying Sandstorm Monarch.
Besides that, Terrance had a vague feeling… that this Larvitar revived from the fossil would be something special.
That evening, Terrance personally cooked dinner for Grandma Arlan and the children who were still staying at the Old Green House. He also invited Kotoko to join them. Kotoko, now serving as the Deputy Gym Leader of Fallarbor Gym, had been managing the Gym in a highly orderly and efficient manner.
The following afternoon, Terrance also invited June Joy and the entire team responsible for the "Fallarbor Woods Scenic Area Project" out for a feast—as a way of thanking them for all their hard work over the past few months. Especially June—seeing her again gave Terrance someone he could finally talk to about everything he'd experienced these last four months. The two of them enthusiastically chatted about all kinds of interesting moments he'd encountered during his Totem Aura research, the differences between Totem Pokémon and ordinary Pokémon, and much more.
In the blink of an eye, the start of the joint Trainer and Coordinator Super Grand Festival was down to its final day.
Terrance, fully prepared, arrived at the venue of the festival:
