Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom

Chapter 842: Golurk

It was no surprise that Team Magma had come here. This place was practically a sanctuary for them. In ancient times, there was already a group of people who worshipped Groudon, and they may have even served it directly.

These ancient people are, in a sense, the predecessors of Team Magma. It is very likely that they left behind numerous artifacts or valuable knowledge that Team Magma could take advantage of.

However, judging by the scent that permeated the air, it seemed this place had been sealed for a long time. The entire structure was probably in a state of decay, so if he decided to go inside, caution would be necessary.

Cain ordered Slowking to leave a psychic marker in the area, which would allow for a quick retreat if needed. Only after ensuring this safeguard did he begin to slowly approach the ruins.

Suddenly, Slowking cried out and quickly enveloped Cain in a psychic barrier while retreating at full speed. Drapion and the other Pokémon immediately assumed defensive stances.

Cain, though surprised, could also sense something strange thanks to his own psychic abilities. However, Slowking's reaction had been much faster.

A loud crash echoed as the ground beneath them suddenly fractured. Chunks of rock flew in all directions. Drapion moved swiftly, smashing the larger rocks to dust before they could cause harm.

Larvitar and Lairon used their own abilities to protect themselves, controlling the terrain's energy to deflect the debris. Although some smaller stones hit them, they suffered no significant damage—not even scratches on their bodies.

When the dust settled, Cain could finally see the source of the sudden attack. Before them stood a towering figure, a colossus built of stacked stones.

"Is that... a Golurk?" Cain murmured, identifying the Pokémon.

Golurk, along with its pre-evolution Golett, are considered the first Pokémon created by humans. In ancient times, humans used all their wisdom and knowledge to bring these Pokémon to life.

This proves that humans of that era were no less ingenious than those of today—and may have even been more advanced in certain respects.

Using only stones and a set of mysterious runes, they were able to create a Pokémon with its own consciousness. Moreover, these Pokémon possess the ability to evolve—a truly astonishing achievement.

Originally, humans only created Golett, but as its powers increased, its original body could no longer contain its growing energy. As a result, it evolved into Golurk.

It is said that Golett was created as an imitation of the Regis, specifically Regirock. Although the exact process remains a mystery, the fact is that these Pokémon came into being. They are extremely loyal to the commands of their creators, much like the Regis.

It's likely that this Golurk had been activated because Cain and his team intruded into the area it was guarding, triggering a programmed response.

A quasi-Elite level Golurk—perfect for guarding a base.

Cain couldn't help but feel tempted. A Pokémon like this would be perfect as a guardian. Even if it couldn't match the capabilities of the Regis, having a simplified version would be more than enough. However, in order to capture it, he'd have to defeat it first.

Cain called over Larvitar and Lairon, while Drapion, Honchkrow, and Slowking prepared for battle.

Golurk began to move, displaying surprising agility. This Pokémon can fly, and its aerial speed is nothing to scoff at.

In flight mode, Golurk's legs retract, turning into thrusters, and its arms can also convert into boosters to enhance speed.

It was impressive to witness the creative ingenuity of the ancient humans in action.

With each step Golurk took, the ground trembled. Its speed rapidly increased as it charged toward Cain's team.

Drapion didn't hesitate and launched itself at Golurk to confront it head-on.

The massive Golurk, standing 2.8 meters tall, was even more imposing than Drapion. Nevertheless, Drapion didn't back down. Slowking summoned several black spheres of psychic energy that transformed into arrows and fired them at Golurk.

Honchkrow flapped its wings, generating gusts of wind that surrounded both itself and Drapion, increasing their speed. Then, Honchkrow quickly ascended, preparing to use the move Sky Attack.

Golurk charged its fist with flames, while Drapion cloaked its claws in fire, ready for the clash. When their attacks collided, the impact was deafening, raising a cloud of dust and shaking the ground.

Although both Pokémon appeared evenly matched in strength, Slowking seized the opportunity to launch a powerful Psychic attack that struck Golurk directly, causing the glowing runes on its body to flicker as if it were stunned.

Drapion wasted no time and used all its strength to lift Golurk and pin it down.

Honchkrow, having been charging Sky Attack from the air, descended engulfed in blue flames and struck Golurk squarely, slamming it to the ground.

Though Golurk seemed incapacitated, Cain remained alert. He ordered his Pokémon to continue attacking. Slowking launched another Psychic, Honchkrow fired off a Dark Pulse, and Drapion added to the assault with Shadow Ball.

After a minute of continuous attacks, Golurk finally stopped moving. The runes on its body completely dimmed, confirming its defeat.

Golurk was a formidable Pokémon, immune to Normal, Fighting, and Electric types, and resistant to Rock and Bug. However, its weakness to Ghost, Water, Grass, Ice, and Dark types had been its downfall in this battle.

As he looked at the defeated Golurk, Cain couldn't help but once again admire the skill of the ancient humans—able to create something so impressive with the limited resources of their time.
