Chapter 361: Chapter 361
On the plains outside the Starting Town.
Madara was training his new disciple, Lisbeth, while his four subordinates had formed a team and gone off to level up.
Swoosh swoosh.
Two shurikens flew from Madara's hand, making Lisbeth scream in fright as she ducked and scrambled for cover.
Thwack thwack!
The shurikens struck Lisbeth squarely on her backside, causing her HP bar to drop by 1/10.
If not for the crude craftsmanship of the shurikens, which greatly reduced their damage, Lisbeth—at her mere level 1—might have returned to Blue Planet instantly.
"Face the incoming attack directly!"
Madara's face darkened as he looked at the disheveled girl before him.
She was, without a doubt, the worst disciple he had ever trained.
Madara realized that Lisbeth was likely a sheltered flower, someone who had been well-protected in the past. Because of this, he had to start teaching her from scratch.
"But... Sensei, I'm scared."
Lisbeth pulled the two shurikens out of her body and handed them back to Madara.
Those same shurikens had been forged by her own hands. As a level 1 blacksmith, all she could do was repair basic weapons and make rudimentary tools.
"You barely feel any pain, and getting hit a few times won't kill you outright. What's there to fear? If you can't even face an attack, how will you ever dodge one?"
Madara poked her forehead in frustration.
For the first time in his life, he felt utterly defeated while teaching a disciple.
Among his previous three students, Nagato was a genius, while Nawaki and Gai, though less talented, were hardworking. Despite their lack of aptitude for ninjutsu, their perseverance had always impressed him.
Eventually, he had implanted Zetsu's cells into them, granting Nawaki the Wood Release and Gai extraordinary regenerative abilities. With these enhancements, their progress soared, and Madara had finally seen results.
But with Lisbeth, he had no such shortcuts.
There were no Orochimaru or Hiruko here, nor any of those "cheats." All that mattered were the stats on one's character sheet.
The only advantage Madara could provide Lisbeth was a passive skill, "Fist Flow," but this skill required excellent physical and martial prowess to wield effectively.
Right now, Lisbeth couldn't even face an incoming attack, let alone engage a monster in close combat. The skill was essentially useless to her.
"Ugh..."
Lisbeth didn't dare argue. Hugging her head, she squatted on the ground and sobbed.
"Stop crying. Stand up and keep training, or no dinner for you tonight."
Madara was strict, even when it came to his Growlithe, so he had no intention of going easy on Lisbeth.
As a mentor, he believed that any moment of leniency would increase the chances of his disciple dying in future battles. If he couldn't grasp this fundamental truth, he had no business taking on the role of a teacher.
"Yes, Sensei..."
Lisbeth wiped her tears, feeling wronged but obediently stood up, ready to face another round of shurikens.
Madara once again threw the shurikens at her.
That night.
"Ugh..."
Lisbeth lay in her inn bed, quietly crying under the covers.
She didn't resent Madara at all. Without him, she wouldn't have food to eat, a place to stay, or protection from the thugs who would otherwise bully her.
Her sensei had protected her, and she was deeply grateful to him.
Lisbeth's tears came from the pressure weighing on her heart. As a lonely girl trapped in a death game, she needed time to muster her courage and adapt.
Outside her room.
Madara crossed his arms and stood silently for a moment. Then, he raised his hand and knocked on the door.
"One moment!"
Inside, Lisbeth quickly wiped her tears, jumped out of bed, and ran to open the door.
"Woof!"
To her surprise, no one was there. Instead, a small, adorable red dog stood at her doorstep.
[Growlithe Lv.7]
"You're Sensei's Pokémon."
Lisbeth's eyes lit up as she scanned the area. Seeing no one around, she scooped the Growlithe into her arms.
"Why are you here alone? Oh, you're so soft and warm!"
Hugging the Growlithe, she climbed back into bed, burying her face in its fluffy fur. The comforting warmth seemed to heal her troubled heart.
Lick lick~
Growlithe licked away the tear stains on her face.
"Are you comforting me? Thank you, Growlithe."
Holding the little dog tightly, Lisbeth began sharing stories from her real-world life.
Before long, she fell asleep.
The next morning, July 4th.
"Alright! Let's work hard and train diligently today!"
It was Lisbeth's fourth day in the game. After a good night's sleep, she felt refreshed and full of energy.
Leaving her room, she headed to the inn's lobby, where she spotted Madara sitting at a table with Growlithe.
"Sensei."
"Mm. Eat first."
Madara nodded and gestured toward the plate of spaghetti on the table.
"Yes!"
Lisbeth eagerly sat down to eat. Looking at the steaming plate of pasta, her stomach growled in anticipation.
"Sensei, aren't you eating?" she asked curiously.
"I already did."
"Oh, I see."
...
In the northwest corner of the first floor.
Izuna and Kirito had traveled all day to reach a medium-sized town in this remote part of the map.
"Sensei, is that rare NPC here? Was it only available during the beta test?"
Kirito, following behind Izuna, asked curiously.
If he remembered correctly, this town was quite ordinary, with its most notable quest being one that rewarded a high-quality shield.
"That NPC is a wandering one. After someone completes their quest, they move to another location."
Izuna explained this according to Dark's guidelines.
"A wandering NPC?!"
Kirito was surprised.
If the NPC was that unusual, the quests they offered must be extraordinary.
"They're called Arceus."
Stopping in front of a church, Izuna checked the map. The coordinates Dark had sent him pointed to this location.
"Arceus... The name alone sounds remarkable."
Kirito tried to decipher the name's significance.
"Arceus is the god that created most Pokémon. They offer quests related to Pokémon."
"Wow, I didn't know that. I must've missed this detail in the official material."
The two entered the church, where they immediately spotted [Arceus] standing at the front.
Seeing the NPC's majestic appearance, Kirito became certain they were extraordinary.
Izuna patted Kirito's shoulder, signaling him to trigger the quest.
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
Kirito initiated the interaction smoothly.
"Ah, brave adventurer, I require assistance with a matter of great importance," Arceus replied, adopting a solemn, compassionate expression.
Behind him, Izuna remained calm and observant.
"In this church, there was a wounded Pokémon—a Sneasel. But my sudden arrival startled it, and it fled in panic."
"I noticed its injuries were severe, likely caused by a wild Sandslash's quills. If its wounds aren't treated soon, they might become infected."
"I wish to use this [Potion] to heal it, but I don't know where it's hiding. It's somewhere in this town, as it seems to recognize it as a safe place."
"Adventurer, could you find it for me and use this [Potion] to treat its wounds? Oh, and remember, it's a bit shy, so be patient."
[Accept the quest: "Injured Sneasel"?]
[Yes]
Kirito accepted the quest and the potion from Arceus, officially starting the task.
[Injured Sneasel]
Objective: Heal the wounded Sneasel hiding in town using the potion.
Rewards: Currency *300, Experience *300, "Sneasel's Favor" (chance to obtain).
Quest Giver: Arceus
"Got the quest? Then get going. You'll have to complete it on your own if you want a chance at the extra reward," Izuna reminded Kirito.
"Got it! But where should I start looking?"
Kirito frowned, thinking hard.
Finding a small, elusive Pokémon in a medium-sized town without even knowing what it looked like would be no easy task. Adding to the challenge, there were other players around who might target the Sneasel.
"Sneasel is a black, feline Pokémon with three feather-like red tails and one long red ear. I saw one during the beta test."
Izuna provided a hint.
"Oh? Thanks, Sensei! With such a unique appearance, I should be able to find it today."
"Good. I'll wait for you at the inn nearby."
"Understood!"
After parting ways, Kirito headed to a nearby shop to buy some fresh fish.
He figured that since Sneasel resembled a cat, it might be drawn to fish.
Placing the fish in various alleyways, Kirito began searching for signs of the Sneasel. Wherever the fish disappeared, he reasoned, the Sneasel couldn't be far.
