Pokémon: Ash's New Journey

Chapter 60: Time Warp Heals All Wounds, Part 1!

With Celebi's recovery and farewell, the group felt a renewed sense of purpose. The massive thorns that once blocked the Cycling Road had vanished, thanks to Celebi's powers, leaving the alternate path open and unobstructed.

"Looks like the way ahead is clear," Ash remarked, his eyes glinting with determination.

"About time! I've been wanting to ride my bike again," May chimed in with excitement.

At the next town, they rented four bicycles from a shop, each picking one to match their personality—Ash chose a sturdy red one, Misty a sleek blue, Brock a practical green, and May a playful pink. Riding along the Cycling Road, they raced each other, the wind rushing through their hair as they laughed and cheered.

"Hey, no fair! You got a head start!" May called out as Ash sped ahead.

"Catch me if you can!" Ash shouted back, grinning.

The scenic ride led them through a forest where they stumbled upon a Pokémon Academy nestled among the trees. Intrigued, they decided to take a quick tour. The Academy was bustling with young trainers eager to learn the art of raising Pokémon.

"This place reminds me of Professor Oak's lab," Ash said, watching the students engage in Pokémon battles and care routines.

"Yeah, but with more books and less… chaos," Brock added with a chuckle.

Their brief visit proved to be fruitful for Brock, who ventured into the nearby forest and encountered a crybaby Bonsly. After a comical chase and a heartfelt moment, Brock managed to capture the Bonsly, adding another new companion to his team alongside his recently caught Scyther.

"Looks like you're on a roll, Brock!" Misty teased as Brock cradled the Bonsly in his arms.

By evening, the group reached a small town near Fuchsia City. Tired from their day of adventures, they headed straight to the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy greeted them warmly and took their Pokémon for treatment.

"Your Pokémon will be good as new in no time," she assured them with a smile.

While waiting, May's Squirtle suddenly darted out of the Pokémon Center.

"Ah, Squirtle! Where are you going? Come back!" May shouted, rushing after it.

Misty and Brock were about to follow when Ash stopped them.

"Don't worry. May and Squirtle will be fine. I'll go instead. You two stay here," Ash said, his tone calm yet firm.

Trusting Ash's judgment, Misty and Brock nodded and stayed behind.

Squirtle raced through the town, weaving between streets with an urgency that puzzled May. "What's gotten into you?" she muttered, chasing after it with Ash close behind.

The little Water-type led them to an abandoned train station on the edge of town. The old structure, with its weathered wood and faded paint, seemed frozen in time. Squirtle stopped at a bench where an elderly lady sat, her gentle smile framed by silvery hair.

"There you are!" May sighed in relief, scooping up Squirtle. "But why here?"

Ash placed a reassuring hand on May's shoulder. "Looks like Squirtle had a reason. Let's find out."

As they approached, the elderly lady looked up, her eyes twinkling. "Oh, this adorable Squirtle belongs to you two? What a handsome little fellow! And you two make such a lovely pair," she said warmly.

May's cheeks flushed crimson. "Ah… um… thank you," she stammered, her heart racing. Lovely pair? She glanced at Ash, who seemed oblivious to the comment.

Ash smiled politely. "Hello, ma'am. I'm Ash, and this is Pikachu."

"Pika pika!" Pikachu greeted with a cheerful wave.

"My name's May, and this is Squirtle," May added, her voice still a little shaky.

"Nice to meet you both. You can call me Grandma Edna," the lady replied.

"What brings you here by yourself, Grandma Edna?" May asked, her curiosity piqued.

Grandma Edna gestured for them to sit, and as the sun dipped below the horizon, she began to share her story. Her gaze drifted toward the dark, empty train tunnel, her voice tinged with nostalgia.

"I come here every day, hoping to see someone return on the train. This station used to be so lively… but now, it's just me and my memories," she said softly.

Her words carried the weight of longing and love. Ash, May, Pikachu, and even Squirtle felt the bittersweet emotions in her voice.

As a light rain began to fall, Grandma Edna's eyes sparkled. "Yes, it was just like this… a light rain, the day he left. If only it had snowed instead of rained, maybe he would have stayed," she murmured, lost in thought.

Just then, a young woman arrived, carrying an umbrella. "Grandma! There you are," she called, rushing to Edna's side.

"This is my granddaughter, Katrina," Edna introduced with a proud smile.

After brief introductions, Katrina gently led Grandma Edna away, the older woman repeating softly, "It seems he won't be coming back today…"

Once they were alone, Katrina shared the rest of the story. Decades ago, Grandma Edna and her husband, Jonathan, were renowned Pokémon caretakers. They loved each other deeply, but their lives took different paths when Jonathan decided to leave for the city to study advanced Pokémon care techniques.

"He wanted Grandma to come with him, but she couldn't bear to leave the town she'd called home since childhood," Katrina explained.

Unbeknownst to Jonathan, Edna was pregnant. She had planned to tell him in hopes of making him stay, but he left before she could. All he left behind was a letter.
