Chapter 864: CH242 (856), Why Would You Do That?

We, my hat, my shadow, and I, made a careful sweep of the crater regardless of the lackluster Pokémon presence just in case we might be able to find a meteor splinter/fragment or another "secretly" buried Pokémon. Unfortunately, we found neither, so I eventually stepped out of the crater and resumed exploring the rest of the floor.

Less than 15 minutes later, we came across the opening/exit leading to the outside. Yet, aside from taking a look at the Ranger lounging beside the opening and greeting him, we ignored the whole thing in favor of continuing our exploration. A point I could not help but notice was the lack of Paras, which when correlated with our previous encounters had me fully exclude the possibility of the Paras entering the Meteor Falls from this side.

As for why they had not spread in this direction, I imagined that the combination of the exit, specifically the light that spread from there, the puddle-falls, and the proximity of the stream was too much for the Paras to feel comfortable. Other than that, the rarest/most uncommon Pokémon I had seen so far was the Drilbur that escaped, which had me feel a bit impatient. I noticed that I had sped up a bit as a result, so I forced myself to calm/slow down since haste makes waste as they say.

Besides, given the presence of the exit, it made sense why there were fewer Pokémon around the area and why the more sensitive/uncommon ones stayed away. Still, that did not stop me from properly finishing what we started, and just a few minutes after we passed the 1-hour milestone of our return to the Main Chamber we finished exploring this part of the lowermost floor/platform.

This left us with only the dry part of the floor across the stream/pond, where the opening leading to the chamber below the whole platform holding the Fallarbor side's entrance was. Speaking of the pond, seeing how the water did not flood the whole area, everyone would be able to infer that there had to be an outlet point somewhere, and they would be right.

There was a nearly two (dia)meter-wide underwater channel at the bottom of the northern wall, which led straight to the sea. We knew that for sure since people had actually traversed the whole thing and confirmed that to be a fact unlike with the water channel at the top. The Meteor Fall's side of the channel was at a very slight angle, which was why the surface of the pond was calm and not in constant motion.

Anyway, back to the platform/ground on the other side, I was not absolutely sure if we could finish exploring the place within the slightly less than 30 minutes we had left until our usual lunchtime, but I decided to continue regardless. If we came close enough, pushing lunch back by a few minutes to finish the exploration would be fine.

Having made that decision, I walked toward the pond and looked toward the platform/dry ground on the other side. I would need to cover close to 40ish meters if I wanted to land on the edge of the other side, and while I could jump such a distance without having to resort to any dramatic landing posture, I decided to just levitate across the stream.

A Gyarados actually rose out of the water in an attempt to take a bite out of me once I was about halfway across the water, but all it got was a kick to the maw courtesy of yours truly. That kick sent its upper body slamming onto the water's surface, but it was definitely not enough to knock it out. Unfortunately, it was clear that Gyarados did not see the kick as a sign to leave me alone, but as something that enraged it, because it released an angry roar before firing a freaking Hyper Beam at me.

I felt Hades and Mothra stir as soon as the orangy light began to gather at Gyarados' maw, but I told them to stay put for now since I wanted to deal with it myself. I blocked the Hyper Beam with a triangular Aura Barrier, which caused the Hyper Beam to spread along its sides. I put my full attention on the barrier for a few seconds to ensure that Gyarados was fully committed to its Hyper Beam.

The moment I was sure that Gyarados had fully committed, I split my focus on readying a Teleportation right behind Gyarados' head, and once I was ready, I went through with the Teleport. I used the moment while the Aura Barrier still held up without my support to channel a good amount of aura into my feet before I delivered a boosted kick right atop the area of its skull I knew the brain to be.

The force behind the kick caused Gyarados to sink further into the water, but that was nothing compared to the effect I had been aiming for, namely shaking Gyarados' brain. I was sure that my kick had to have caused its brain to shake around inside its thick skull, and as I suspect, Gyarados sank into the water instead of continuing to bother me.

While I was sure that it was just momentarily disabled instead of truly beaten, I thought that was enough, so I let it be and continued to fly/levitate towards the ground on the other side. I stayed at the edge and stared at the water for a full minute to see if the Gyarados would try a comeback, but while I could feel its stare at me roughly ten seconds in, it appeared that Gyarados had chosen to stay put since the feeling of being stared at vanished half a minute later.

Hence, after giving the pond a final glance, I turned around to start the exploration of the area. I would call it a cliche, but less than 10 seconds after I did that, Gyarados' head practically burst out of the water and released a Hydro Pump at my back. Unfortunately for Gyarados, given my enhanced senses, its ambush was noticed the moment it happened, though I was obviously not the only one who was able to notice and react in time.

The moment Gyarados' head appeared, I felt two sensations of irritation and anger. Naturally, those belonged to Mothra as well as Hades, and I was sure that if Mothra was not the fastest out of us, Hades would have loved to hit Gyarados as well, but Mothra was undoubtedly the strongest and fastest of us, so before Hades could rise from my shadow or I could turn around, she had already released a Thunderbolt straight at the Hydro Pump.

So both Hades and I ended up gazing at a convulsing Gyarados because Mothra kept her Thunderbolt going even after its Hydro Pump broke off. It quickly became apparent that Mothra did not plan to stop any time soon, and I understood why since I could feel her anger. Still, when I saw that Gyarados had begun to steam, as in literally getting thunder-burnt/shocked to death, I told her to stop since I felt that we did not have to take its life, at least not like this.

Even if she electrocuted Gyarados to death it would turn to charcoal in the process making it useless for us and even the rest of the fish/Pokémon in the pond. I thought that a death like that, without benefiting anyone, was not worth it, which was why I asked Mothra to stop. Mothra pouted at my request, but still followed suit and cut off the Thunderbolt.

Gyarados finally free from the current, sank into the pond, and while I could sense that it was still alive, I doubted that it would be able to move properly for a while. Given the commotion we caused, I was sure that at least some curious fish would check the area, so I doubted that Gyarados would be able to survive this ordeal unless a miracle happened. I was aware of that, but Gyarados did bring it upon itself when it made that second ambush attempt.

Still, I was not interested in staying and watching if things would go that way, so I told Mothra and Hades to leave things to fate after this before focusing back on finally checking out the area. We ended up going at it past 30 minutes, but after strolling around for close to 45 minutes we had walked around the whole place while keeping an eye on anything interesting, and I had to say that the 15-minute extra delay was definitely worth it.

We managed to come across a Tympole, which I had not expected at all. Sadly the Tympole had pretty shitty potential or I would have caught it, but I still managed to find out where it came from, and as it turned out, there was a small knot of them occasionally appearing within the chamber below the Fallarbor entrance. It seemed that there was a hidden exit leading to the outside in the chamber connected to the one in front of us, and their knot had found that opening and wandered in from there.

According to Tympole, only they were small enough to fit through the opening so they occasionally snuck through to hang out in the cave system, though they normally stuck around those two chambers since the Seismitoad warned them against straying too far in. Yet, Tympole decided to go on a little adventure to the outside today, or rather inside I guess.

Seeing how it had revealed all that, meaning I would be able to find them even if it went back and told/warned the rest of the Tympole about me, I simply let it go. I saw Tympole slip back into the chamber while I was walking around, but I did not bother stopping it since I was nearly done with my exploration at that point. Now that I had finished my exploration I finally entered Utopia to have lunch with my Pokémon, who had been waiting for me for some time already.

Even after we finished our lunch and went back out, I did not head into the opening to check the chamber since I had long decided to start exploring the stream/water part of the main chamber once I was done with the rocky part. Because we were already at the lowest level/floor, I decided to start with the pond in front of me. While the area of the pond was not that much bigger than the platform I was currently on, its considerable depth meant that I had a much bigger space/volume to explore.

Feeling a bit curious I decided to start my pond/underwater exploration in the area where Gyarados sank, but before I dove into the water I asked Mothra if she was really going to continue staying on my head even while we were underwater. I was not worried about Hades since he was a ghost and staying in the shadow realm, but Mothra would get submerged with me.

Last time I checked, she could not breathe underwater and while her wings did not soak up water or get dragged down by water like those of most birds, they would likely still cause her a hard time. Yet, Mothra waved off my concerns; She declared that she would simply hold her breath until I resurfaced to get some fresh air and that she would keep the water from truly touching her by keeping up a layer of Psychic around her body.

I contemplated telling her that keeping up Psychic like that underwater would be harder than she thought. Not to mention that she would have to keep it up for much longer than she usually used the move, but then I decided to let it be. Keeping Psychic up for as long as she could would serve as training, and if she ended up failing and got wet as a result, it would serve as a learning experience.

Just as I was about to jump in, I had a thought flash through my mind which caused me to stop with my heels off the ground and my body bent. I straightened back up and brought Kun/Azuraid out so that he could join us since I was sure that everyone in Utopia would complain about me entering a body of water without any of my water types to accompany me. I chose Kun because he was the smallest one among those qualified for the role.
