Pokémon: Akhi’s Journey Begins

Chapter 5: Fishing

After a long day of battles, Akhi decided that it was time to focus on training in a way that would give Gia the best advantage. Being a Grass-type, Gia's biggest weakness was Fire, but her strengths lay in taking on Water-types. To make her stronger, Akhi needed to find Pokémon that would give her the right kind of challenge.

Looking around the quiet forest, Akhi's eyes landed on a pond nestled between two large rocks, the water shimmering under the fading sunlight. The pond looked like the perfect place to find Water-type Pokémon.

"Alright, Gia," Akhi said, pulling out a fishing rod from his bag, "Let's head to the pond. Water-types will be perfect for you to practice against."

Gia looked up at him with an eager **Bulba**, ready for whatever challenge lay ahead. Akhi grinned, feeling a sense of determination building inside him.

They made their way to the edge of the pond, where Akhi cast his fishing line into the water. It wasn't long before he felt a tug on the line, and with a quick pull, a **Magikarp** flopped onto the shore, flailing around in the grass.

"Magikarp, huh?" Akhi said with a raised eyebrow. "Well, it'll do. A good warm-up for Gia."

Gia stepped forward and prepared herself for the battle. "Tackle!" Akhi called.

Gia ran forward, her bulb glowing as she slammed into the flopping Magikarp. The Water-type was weak, its only move being **Splash**, which did no damage. In one swift hit, the Magikarp was knocked out, tumbling back into the water.

Akhi returned Gia's Poké Ball and looked down at the still-flailing Magikarp. "You're free to go," he said, watching the Magikarp disappear back into the water with a splash.

The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows across the pond. Akhi cast his line once more, this time hoping for a slightly stronger challenge. Soon enough, another Magikarp tugged at the line. He reeled it in with a smile, ready for the next fight.

Gia charged forward again, her Tackle knocking the Magikarp back into the water, where it swam away quickly. Akhi repeated this process a few more times—catching Magikarp, battling them, and releasing them back into the pond. It wasn't the most exciting training, but it was effective.

After catching and releasing several Magikarp, Akhi decided it was time to look for something else. He scanned the water, hoping to see something different. A splash caught his attention, and he saw a **Poliwag** swimming near the edge of the pond.

"Hey, look, Gia!" Akhi said, pointing at the Poliwag. "That's a Water-type with some potential."

Gia let out a determined **Bulba**, ready for another battle. Akhi prepared himself, pulling out a second Poké Ball. "Let's catch it, Gia. We could use a Pokémon like that."

Gia charged forward, but just as she was about to strike, Poliwag leaped out of the water, evading her attack. "Poliwag!" the Pokémon called out, clearly not willing to fight.

Akhi hesitated for a moment. He could see that Poliwag wasn't interested in battling. "Hmm… Maybe it's not in the mood for a fight," Akhi murmured.

"How about we try something else?" he said, reaching into his bag for one of the berries he had packed. He held it out toward the Poliwag, who eyed it cautiously.

The Poliwag hesitated before swimming closer, sniffing the berry. Slowly, it took the berry from Akhi's hand and ate it, clearly appreciative.

"See? You don't have to fight all the time, buddy," Akhi said with a smile. He gave the Poliwag one last nod before stepping back. "Go ahead. You're free to go back to the water."

Poliwag swam away happily, leaving Akhi and Gia at the edge of the pond.

"Well, that's one way to handle things," Akhi mused. "No need for every encounter to be a battle."

Gia gave a small **Bulba**, as if agreeing with her trainer.

They continued to watch the pond, but after some time, Akhi noticed that the area was getting quieter. Most of the Pokémon had either been caught or were keeping their distance. He looked around and realized that the pond was mostly home to low-level Pokémon like Magikarp. Nothing else seemed to be stirring in the water.

"Well, this is getting kind of repetitive," Akhi said, glancing at Gia. "We've only seen Magikarp so far, and there's not much else here."

Gia gave a little **Bulba** in response, as though agreeing with her trainer's assessment. Akhi sighed, resting his hand on the back of his neck. "Looks like we need a change of pace. Maybe we can find something more interesting by swimming."

Without thinking much further, Akhi stripped down to his shorts and waded into the cool water of the pond. The sensation of the water was refreshing after a day of training.

"Come on, Gia! Let's explore the pond a little," Akhi called to her.

Gia hesitated for a moment before stepping into the water with him. The two of them swam further out into the pond, Akhi's feet brushing the soft sand at the bottom.

As they swam, Akhi began to notice the water around him becoming a little more active. He looked down and saw several Magikarp swimming near the surface, some flopping awkwardly but continuing to splash around. But then, something unusual happened.

In the distance, Akhi saw a Magikarp leaping at another, attacking with surprising speed. He couldn't believe his eyes. He hadn't thought Magikarp were capable of fighting like that.

"Gia, look!" Akhi whispered, pointing toward the confrontation.

Gia's eyes widened, and she paddled closer to get a better view. The Magikarp were now circling each other, as if engaged in some sort of battle. One of the Magikarp charged at the other, its tail whipping through the water with unexpected force. The other Magikarp flopped backward but quickly recovered, returning the attack.

Akhi couldn't believe what he was seeing. **Magikarp fighting each other?** That wasn't supposed to happen. He watched closely, trying to make sense of the situation. Why were these Magikarp acting this way? Were they just an anomaly, or was something more at play here?

As Akhi and Gia observed the strange behavior, a sense of curiosity began to grow in him. What was really going on in this pond? Why were these Magikarp fighting, and could there be something even more powerful lurking beneath the surface?

But that, he realized, was a mystery for another dive as he was out of breath. For now, the two of them swam back to the shore, their minds buzzing with questions.

"Let's rest for now," Akhi said. "We'll figure this out later."

As he sat by the edge of the pond, looking out over the water, one thing was certain—there was much more to this place than met the eye. And next time, Akhi was going to find out what it was.
