Chapter 146: Chapter 146: The Battle Begins
That afternoon marked the beginning of the battle segment that Ron had been eagerly anticipating.
The first two segments of the assessment might have been challenging for others, but for Ron, they were hardly anything to fret over.
Since his transmigration, Ron had discovered that his memory had become far sharper than before. Previously vague details in his mind had now resurfaced clearly, far surpassing the memory of an average person.
Ron speculated that this might not solely be due to his fighting aura but could also be related to his status as a transmigrator.
In other stories, transmigrators often fused with another soul, thereby greatly enhancing their mental strength and excelling in fields such as alchemy, artifact crafting, or talisman creation.
In his case, however, he merely gained a better memory. Reflecting on it, Ron felt a little shortchanged.
On second thought, Ron believed he might have potential in psychic powers. However, despite Kirlia being a Psychic-type Pokémon, it didn't necessarily mean it could help awaken psychic abilities in him.
It was common knowledge that, while psychics were not rare, most required an awakening process to unlock their potential.
Those with exceptional talent, like Sabrina, could often become psychics without undergoing awakening. However, Ron was clearly not in the same league.
If an opportunity arose in the future, Ron wouldn't mind trying to awaken his abilities. If successful, it would add a valuable trump card to his arsenal.
After selecting three Pokémon at random, Ron entered the battle arena. According to the competition rules, all Pokémon used in the battles were capped at mid elite levels, ensuring only minor level discrepancies that wouldn't overly affect the outcomes.
"Now that you know the rules, let's begin the battle! Go, my first Pokémon!"
After briefly explaining the rules, the examiner, Lynch, released his first Pokémon.
"Roarrr!"
A deafening roar echoed as Lynch's first Pokémon was revealed to be Venusaur, one of the Kanto starters.
Ron casually grabbed a Poké Ball and released his own first Pokémon.
"Looks like my luck isn't too bad," Ron remarked with a smile as his first Pokémon turned out to be Charizard.
"Don't be so sure," Lynch replied. "Charizard's temper can be quite tricky to manage. Let's see if you can handle it."
"Venusaur, use Razor Leaf!"
Lynch's command echoed as razor-sharp leaves spun toward Charizard.
"Charizard, use Flamethrower!"
As Lynch gave his order, Ron's calm yet commanding voice reached Charizard's ears.
His tone was firm and authoritative, laced with a subtle release of his fighting aura to bolster his presence.
Instinctively, Charizard responded to Ron's command.
Scorching flames erupted, reducing Venusaur's Razor Leaf to ashes.
"Well done, Charizard! With your strength, you can easily defeat that Venusaur. However, to conserve energy and sweep through all three opponents, take to the skies and use the aerial advantage to suppress them."
After thwarting Venusaur's attack, Ron spoke to Charizard in a composed manner.
After a moment of hesitation, Charizard followed Ron's command and ascended into the air.
It, too, was curious to see if it could defeat all three Pokémon in one go.
"This level of coordination on the first try? Impressive," Lynch commented as he watched Charizard obediently follow Ron's instructions.
Typically, trainers who were lucky enough to have a Charizard often struggled after their initial excitement.
Although Charizard was undeniably powerful, its unwillingness to cooperate often resulted in lost battles due to the trainer's missteps.
But under Ron's command, Charizard behaved as if it had been trained for years.
"Venusaur, use Energy Ball to target Charizard in the air!"
Despite his amazement, Lynch quickly refocused and had Venusaur launch a counterattack.
"Charizard, block it with Flamethrower! If you know any ranged moves, use them. That way, I can better plan our strategy."
Upon hearing Ron's instructions, Charizard conjured another Flamethrower, this time forming a blazing cross-shaped pattern to intercept Venusaur's attack.
"Not bad! Charizard, lower your altitude and use Smokescreen!"
As Charizard's Flamethrower dissipated, Ron issued another command.
"Venusaur, fire consecutive Energy Balls! Get ready for SolarBeam!"
Noticing Charizard descending, Lynch sensed an opportunity.
Just as the Smokescreen began to obscure visibility, Venusaur had already charged its SolarBeam.
"Venusaur, to the right! SolarBeam!"
"Charizard, hold your position and use Flamethrower!"
While Lynch predicted Charizard's movement, Ron's response was simple: have Charizard remain stationary.
Halting its momentum, Charizard turned its head and unleashed a powerful Flamethrower at Venusaur, forcing it to abandon its SolarBeam and retreat.
"Charizard, use Heat Wave and dive!"
Fanned by the wind, flames surged as a fiery inferno rained down from the skies toward Venusaur.
Relying on a defense-oriented counterattack strategy with Venusaur left Lynch with little chance to turn the tide.
"Venusaur, use Grass Pledge!"
"Charizard, use Flamethrower!"
Though Venusaur raised a barrier of greenery to mitigate the damage, it was soon engulfed by Charizard's relentless flames.
"Charizard, finish it with Heat Wave!"
Before the flames from Flamethrower dissipated, Charizard unleashed another Heat Wave, ensuring Venusaur could no longer continue battling.
"It's been a while since I've faced a challenger like you. Go, my second Pokémon!"
With a flash of white light, Lynch's next Pokémon, Infernape, entered the field.
"Charizard, take to the skies and sweep with Flamethrower!"
Using its aerial advantage, Charizard quickly gained the upper hand.
Learning from his previous mistakes, Lynch carefully directed Infernape to seize opportunities for counterattacks. However, Ron's sharp, amethyst-colored eyes consistently saw through each attempt.
Flames surged once more, engulfing Infernape, as Charizard combined its Heat Wave with precise movements to secure another victory.
"Go, my third Pokémon!"
After taking a moment to compose himself, Lynch released his final Pokémon: Blastoise.
"A Blastoise, huh? So, what's your plan now?"
Seeing Blastoise, Lynch couldn't help but smile confidently.
"The outcome isn't decided yet. Charizard, use Dragon Dance!"
Having grown accustomed to Charizard's capabilities over two battles, Ron confidently initiated their final bout.
"Blastoise, fire off multiple Water Pulses!"
Lynch wasn't about to let Charizard gain the upper hand, ordering Blastoise to disrupt its rhythm.
Thus, the third battle began!
