Pokémon: A Trainer Who Masters the Six Powers from the Start

Chapter 133: Chapter 133: The Gyarados

Seemingly angered by Ron's actions, the massive creature beneath the water started dragging his small boat across the lake at breakneck speed.

A faint blue glow appeared around Kirlia as it used its Confusion move to stabilize the boat.

Ron pulled with all his might, but the fishing line was stretched to its limit. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't reel it back in.

While maintaining the boat's position, Kirlia used its psychic abilities to observe what was happening underwater.

Based on Kirlia's description, Ron quickly deduced that the Pokémon underwater was none other than a Gyarados.

"Kirlia, I'll need your help for this next part. Dive into the water and lure the Gyarados to the surface."

This lake was a fishing spot for the residents of Pavv Town, and whenever a Gyarados was found, it was usually driven back toward the ocean.

If an easily enraged Gyarados were left unchecked in the lake, someone could end up being attacked.

Given that this Gyarados appeared during the fishing competition, it likely had only recently evolved from a Magikarp, putting its strength around Level 20.

Confident in Kirlia's abilities, Ron wasn't worried about sending it underwater.

Kirlia nodded and jumped into the air, forming a psychic shield to ensure it could breathe underwater.

Once submerged, Kirlia quickly locked onto the target and sped toward the Gyarados.

Soon, it saw the massive Gyarados swimming in the lake, a fishing line still hanging from the corner of its mouth.

Once it was close enough, Kirlia unleashed a Psychic attack, stirring the surrounding water into a whirlpool and slamming into Gyarados.

The sudden assault caused the already enraged Gyarados to freeze momentarily before it locked its ferocious gaze onto Kirlia.

With a powerful flick of its tail, Gyarados abandoned resistance and charged at Kirlia with all its might.

Kirlia used its Confusion to disrupt the Gyarados' movements while retreating toward the surface at full speed.

As Ron had suspected, the Gyarados had only recently evolved and was at Level 21. Its move set was limited, making it vulnerable to Kirlia's psychic interference.

Bursting through the surface, Kirlia quickly returned to the boat using its psychic abilities.

Moments later, a massive splash erupted as the Gyarados followed suit, breaching the water's surface.

Seeing Kirlia successfully draw out a Gyarados, the other competitors' eyes lit up with excitement.

The fishing competition scored catches based on rarity and weight, with Pokémon being the most valuable.

Catching a large Gyarados could give someone a shot at the championship.

Unfortunately, the competition rules prohibited participants from interfering with another competitor's catch unless they were unable to handle it. Violators would be disqualified.

On the sidelines, the judges shifted their attention to the scene, ensuring no conflicts arose between participants.

"Great job, Kirlia! Now, use Psychic!" Ron commanded.

His voice caught the attention of the Gyarados, which roared in anger and charged at Kirlia, colliding head-on with its Psychic attack.

The powerful blow sent waves of pain through the Gyarados' body and left it dazed. The attack even triggered a rare secondary effect, lowering the Gyarados' Special Defense.

Against a brute-force Pokémon like Gyarados, which relied on close-range attacks, Kirlia held a distinct advantage.

"That's it, Kirlia! Keep using Psychic until it's down!"

Before Gyarados could recover, Kirlia unleashed another psychic attack. The concentrated energy rippled across the water, hitting the Gyarados squarely and forcing it to retreat in pain.

Its massive body shook as its confidence, bolstered by its recent evolution, began to crumble. Gyarados now contemplated fleeing.

"Kirlia, use Psychic, then teleport behind it and finish it off with Leaf Blade!"

Seeing the Gyarados hesitate, Ron decided to press his advantage and end the battle.

As Kirlia's psychic energy struck again, Gyarados attempted to counter with Crunch, dark energy gathering in its jaws. But even that wasn't enough to match the power of Kirlia's Psychic attack.

Using Teleport, Kirlia appeared behind the Gyarados. Its Leaf Blade, glowing bright green, struck the Gyarados squarely on the head as it tried to turn around.

Kirlia followed up with another Psychic attack, sending the Gyarados crashing back toward Ron.

Ron threw a Poké Ball, capturing the weakened Gyarados with ease.

Afterward, Ron's luck seemed to improve. He quickly caught a three-kilogram fish and, with Kirlia's help, located prime fishing spots. One big catch after another followed.

However, Ron's skills and luck were limited. Compared to the true fishing experts, he still came up short. Even with the Gyarados, Ron only managed to rank in the top 20 by the end of the competition, missing the top 10 entirely.

While it might seem like the fishing tournament resulted in a loss for Verdanturf Town due to the sheer number of fish caught, the event drew in significant revenue from accommodations and other expenses.

After selling off the excess fish, Ron kept only the best-tasting ones for himself.

As for the Gyarados, Ron decided not to train it. Its strength was too underwhelming for his team, so he planned to release it in a suitable location.

Although he didn't catch a Luvdisc, which was slightly disappointing, Ron had already enjoyed its delicacy before. Satisfied, he looked back fondly on the grand fishing tournament.

With his journey briefly paused for the competition, Ron decided to head for Vermilion City as quickly as possible.

Out at sea, a ship was slowly making its way toward Vermilion City.

On the deck, a young man with fiery red hair and a wild hairstyle was chatting with his blond-haired companion. From their conversation, it was clear their destination was Vermilion City's Gym.
