Pokemon: A Legendary Adventure

Chapter 9: Little Adventure

A few days after his parents' visit, knowing that the school's expedition to the forest east of Purple City was approaching, Victor wanted to visit the Sentret tribe.

After classes, upon returning to the ranch, Victor asked his grandfather, "Grandpa, can I explore the small grove eastern of the city?"

"Let me think... all right, you can go, but be back before dark," his grandfather Andrew replied, wondering if there was any danger in that area. After thinking it over and realizing there wasn't, he agreed to let Victor go explore it.

With some preparation, Victor asked Sentret for directions to the tribe. Leaving the incubator with his grandfather, Victor used the information Sentret had provided to try to locate the Sentret tribe using his laptop.

With a possible location in hand, Victor said goodbye to his grandfather and left the ranch, heading toward the eastern exit of the city. Carrying his backpack with some of his grandfather's old equipment, he took his camera and headed toward the small grove he used as a training field.

Arriving there, he took out his laptop and pokegear. Having already figured out his pokegear's features—call, clock, map, and radio—he connected it to his laptop. Typing on his laptop, he transferred the possible location of the tribe to his pokegear.

"It's a bit far, but I think I can make it there and back before nightfall," Victor thought as he looked at the map on his pokegear.

"Sentret, Sent!"

Upon being released, the small scout Pokémon quickly shouted, climbed onto his shoulder, and looked vigilantly around. Recognizing the place as the training field where they practiced after school, he visibly relaxed.

"Sentret, let's go find your tribe," Victor said to Sentret with a smile, patting his furry little head.

Following the path he'd chosen after studying the map, Victor observed the scenes around him, spotting many low-level Pokémon, like Caterpie fleeing from a hunting Pidgey, Ledyba flying among the trees, Spinarak going to defend its friend Caterpie, and Rattata running between the bushes.

Deciding not to interfere in this natural scene, Victor continued his way, going deeper into the forest.

At a spot still near the small grove, Victor came across a shallow river. According to the map, following the small river was the first step to reaching the Sentret tribe.

Following the river and approaching the deeper parts of the grove, he entered the forest. Further ahead, Victor sensed something strange.

"Do you smell that, Sentret?" Victor asked, frowning, as Sentret sat on his shoulder.

"Sent? Sent Sentret!"

Hearing Victor's question, Sentret sniffed the air and then nodded in confirmation.

With Sentret's confirmation, Victor decided to use his ability to see if there were any Pokémon around. With a gleam in his eyes, Victor began looking around. Focusing on a bush about two hundred meters ahead, he saw a bright yellow glow.

Realizing this yellow glow was from an unknown Pokémon, Victor hid behind a tree with Sentret.

'What Pokémon is that?' Victor thought as he continued watching the bush.

Deciding to wait and see what was hiding in the bushes, Victor leaned against the tree. Watching patiently, after half an hour, he noticed a small Psyduck emerging from the river.

'No, damn it. Get out of there, Psyduck, don't go that way,' Victor thought as he watched Psyduck approach the bush.

When Psyduck got within about ten meters of the bush, vines emerged from it, slithering quickly like snakes toward him. Just as the vines were about to reach Psyduck, an ice beam shot out from the water.

The ice beam froze the vines, stopping them from grabbing Psyduck. Then, from the water, a Golduck leaped out, landing in front of Psyduck. Confirming Psyduck's safety, Golduck began watching the bush from a distance. Soon, with a rustle, a Victreebel emerged from the bushes.

Watching from afar, Victor tried to estimate their levels.

'Possibly, the Victreebel is around level 42, and the Golduck is around level 45, but where did that Victreebel find a Leaf Stone?' Victor wondered, observing the two staring at each other.

Before Victor could react, Victreebel launched an attack, using Vine Whip again and sending the vines toward the little Psyduck. Realizing Victreebel's intentions, Golduck grabbed his son in his arms, dodged the vines, and shot an ice beam at Victreebel. Seeing the attack coming, Victreebel quickly covered itself in dark energy and used Sucker Punch to dodge the ice beam and close in on Golduck.

Seeing Victreebel approaching quickly, Golduck, with Psyduck in his arms, used Protect, forming a transparent green barrier and narrowly escaping Victreebel's Sucker Punch. Managing to block the attack, Golduck quickly retreated, distancing himself from Victreebel.

'Damn!' Watching the scene in front of him, Victor cursed Golduck mentally, realizing that he was leading the battle toward him.

Thinking quickly about what to do, Victor spotted the river and thought, 'At least the laptop and pokegear are waterproof. Time for a swim.' Quickly making a decision, Victor put Sentret back in his Pokéball and began running toward the river.

As he approached the stream, Victor noticed Victreebel launching a Razor Leaf attack at Golduck, who opened his beak and fired a jet of water, deflecting the Razor Leaves. However, some of the leaves kept heading toward Victor, who, realizing the danger, summoned all his strength and jumped into the shallow river.

Shortly after submerging, Victor felt a sharp pain in his left leg, horrified to see that one of the leaves had hit his calf, leaving a deep cut. While Victor examined the wound on his leg, the battle above the surface continued. Golduck, trying to protect his child, found himself at a disadvantage as he had to guard his son while dodging Victreebel's attacks. He soon realized he couldn't keep this up.

Deciding to create an opportunity to escape, he prepared to use a wide-range attack. Victor was underwater, trying to swim away. While swimming, he noticed, to his alarm, that the water around him was behaving strangely. Feeling the water-type energy beginning to guide the water, he realized that Golduck was preparing a powerful move. His eyes widened as he recognized the impending move, and he braced himself as best as he could.

With the preparations complete, Golduck used his water-type energy to control the river's flow, forming a massive wave. Seeing the wave, Victreebel guessed what Golduck was attempting, thinking he wanted to pull him into the river. Victreebel used his vines to anchor himself to the surrounding trees.

Noticing Victreebel's movements, the corners of Golduck's beak curved in a sly smile, realizing his bluff had worked. He then directed the wave toward the shore. As the wave approached, Victreebel tightened his grip on the trees. But instead of attacking him with the wave, Golduck jumped on top of it, riding it downstream to escape.

Standing atop the wave, Golduck looked back at Victreebel, who was tangled in the trees, with a visible look of mockery in his eyes. Watching Golduck ride the wave downriver, especially catching the taunt in his gaze, made Victreebel furious; as the ruler of that part of the forest, he had never been humiliated like this. Yet there was nothing he could do, as Golduck was already far away.

Meanwhile, underwater, Victor struggled to hold on and protect himself as he was swept along by the current. After being carried downstream for some time, Victor struck a rock and lost consciousness.

Suddenly, a round shadow appears, lifting his body and carrying him out of the water.

Some time later, on the bank of an unfamiliar part of the forest, the figure of a boy lies unconscious by the river's edge.

"Cough, cough… ugh!" Coughing and spitting up water, Victor wakes up. After coughing out all the water he swallowed, he tries to look around.

"What bad luck… this was supposed to be just a little exploration." Looking around at the unfamiliar environment, he recalls the events that led him here. "Since when did that Victreebel move to that area? Why hasn't anyone heard about it?"

Surveying the denser forest around him, Victor realizes he was carried downstream to a much deeper part of the forest.

"Argh!"

As he tries to stand, he feels a sharp pain in his left leg. Looking down, he remembers that he was cut by Victreebel's Razor Leaf.

"Sentret, Sentret!"

To better protect himself, Victor releases Sentret from his Poké Ball. With a red flash, Sentret appears, looking worriedly at Victor.

"I'm okay, little buddy. It's just a scratch." Noticing Sentret's concern, Victor tries to reassure him.

'How did I get out of the water?' As he's about to leave to find somewhere to treat his injury, a question crosses his mind.

Looking back at the river, he sees a small blue ball waving at him.

"Marill, Marill!"

"Hey, Marill. Was it you who saved me?" Victor asks, and Marill nods in confirmation.

"Marill!"

"Thank you, Marill. It would've been tough to make it out alive without you." Victor thanks Marill sincerely, giving a thumbs-up with his right hand.

Victor then asks Marill where they are now. After hearing Marill's answer, Victor realizes he hasn't ended up in the forest depths after all. According to Marill, he drifted off course and ended up heading toward Violet City.

Now, he's just a few miles from Violet City, quite a distance from Purple City. Seeing the mess he's gotten himself into, he decides to use his Pokégear to call his grandfather.

After a few minutes, Andrew picks up. Victor explains everything that happened—leaving out a few details, like the cut on his leg and the fact that he almost drowned.

Thinking about what to do, Andrew says to Victor, "Kid, you said you were closer to Violet City, right?"

"Yes, Grandpa."

"Great. Listen closely, Victor. I want you to move stealthily towards Violet City. But at the first sign of danger, you back off and get out of there, understood?" Andrew speaks in a serious but worried tone.

"Understood, Grandpa!" Victor replies immediately, hearing the seriousness and concern in his usually lighthearted grandfather's voice.

"Good. I'll talk to Nurse Joy here and ask her to contact Nurse Joy in Violet City, so she can let you stay overnight at the Pokémon Center," Andrew says after a sigh. Then, after a moment of thought, he adds jokingly to lighten the mood, "You're as much of a troublemaker as I was at your age, huhuhohoho!"

"I'm not sure if that's a compliment, but thanks, hihihihi."

After chatting a bit more and then hanging up his Pokégear, Victor decides to look for a place to heal himself.

Leaning against a tree by the river, Victor begins to heal using his Viridian energy, reflecting on the dangers he faced due to his lack of strength.
