Chapter 39
Duch Virus
After hearing this, the young girl couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m not a gang leader, why would I ask you to go commit crimes?”
Meeting her slightly raised eyebrows, Zhou Chi scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed. “I was just giving an example…”
“But, there’s actually something I need your help with.” Shen Wan suddenly turned serious.
“Tell me.”
She tossed the phone that Shen Qian gave her to Zhou Chi, who caught it steadily. Feeling the phone’s texture and looking at the screen, he remarked, “Wow… brand new?”
Shen Wan nodded. “Check it for me. See if this phone has any issues.”
“What kind of issues?” Zhou Chi looked puzzled.
“Like virus software, listening devices…”
“Are you being overly cautious? Who would go to the trouble of doing such things…” Zhou Chi paused, recalling the two tasks Shen Wan assigned him after waking up in the hospital: to take her bag and attempt to delete all the traffic video footage of the accident scene. Her careful and discreet approach undoubtedly had connections to her family background.
Now, she couldn’t even trust a new phone… Zhou Chi envisioned a dramatic scenario involving an affluent family. It appeared that being a wealthy young woman wasn’t as straightforward as it might appear.
“Alright then, follow me.”
Shen Wan followed him into the bedroom.
If the living room was pristine, then the bedroom was immaculate.
The shiny wooden floor reflected light, and pillows and blankets were neatly arranged at the end of the bed. The bedsheet seemed taut, without any creases.
The bedside table appeared somewhat old but with a layer of glossy oil, it exuded a touch of vintage elegance. The white walls had aged to a pale yellow, yet there was no trace of mustiness. Instead, there was a natural wood fragrance.
Across from the bed, there was a large computer desk that stretched along the entire wall. It held a full set of equipment, such as a CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, scanner, printer, and a few items that Shen Wan couldn’t recognize.
If someone were to inquire about the most valuable possessions in this house apart from the resident, it would undoubtedly be this collection of electronic devices.
Zhou Chi dragged a chair from the corner and gestured for Shen Wan to sit.
Then, he retrieved tools from a drawer and began disassembling the phone. Before that, he closely examined the phone’s exterior and found no signs of tampering.
Shen Wan raised an eyebrow, signaling him to continue.
Zhou Chi felt a little helpless, not because he thought it was bothersome, but because he hesitated to dismantle a completely new phone.
After all, it was worth over ten thousand yuan.
Shen Wan saw right through his thoughts and chuckled, “I’m not bothered, so why are you so concerned?”
True, there was no point in hesitating.
After fifteen minutes, Shen Wan asked, “How is it?”
“No sign of a listening device. As for virus software, we need to perform an online check. Did you bring the original data cable?”
Shen Wan nodded and handed it over to him.
Zhou Chi connected the phone to his computer and began typing rapidly on the keyboard, his brows furrowing deeper with each keystroke.
“Did you find anything?”
“It’s the Duch virus. When a phone is infected, it automatically sends location information and call records, essentially working like a tracking device, and there’s even a printer that can produce call records.”
Shen Wan sneered, a dark glint passing through her eyes. “Can they access the specific content of the calls?”
“They can’t.”
“Is there a way to remove it?”
“There is, but it would damage the phone’s chip. It’s easier to just discard it.”
Shen Wan’s look became thoughtful. Zhou Chi found himself unexpectedly caught by her intense and deeply dark eyes, and the enigmatic gleam in them gave him a shiver.
“You…”
“Is there a way to trace back to the source’s host through the virus’s digital trail?”
“In principle, it’s possible. What do you want to do?”
