Chapter 10: Calm before the Zstorm
Heyoooo my new book is up if your interested in reading it, I was focusing on it more and still am to bring it closer to the current chapter number of the PVZ fic.
———————————————-
"At this rate I'm gonna need a bigger lawn, there too many of you guys" Jason said to his plants playfully, reaching out to rub the head of an ice pea making it wiggle in happiness. He instantly could felt his hand getting cold from the contact, he moved his hand away from the ice pea. He'll just have to wear gloves whenever he pets a cold type plant, back onto the plant matter before he gets distracted again.
He decided to plant the rest of his plants he had left in his seed packets but because of that Jason needed to reorganize his plant defenses a bit, he had to move the wall nuts more closer to the 'neutral' zone on his lawn. The 'neutral' zone being where he didn't plant his potato mines. He had to move his wallnuts and other plants more closer was to make room on the lawn for the other plants, simply for the obvious fact the plants can't shoot through one another without any consequences. So he moved more plants around to where he can have his newer plants like the next batch of peashooters be able to shoot where at a zombie instead of a plant infront of it.
Oddly enough there also was no zombie attack, which was fine with him since it meant he could focus on his plants. He did after all had to still water them and feed them, which strained what food he had in the fridge and deep freezer. Who knew plants could be picky when it comes to plant food vs human food?
After the usual of preparations Jason would check on one of his latest experiments, then again it was crazy Dave actions that gave him the idea but that's just details. the Cherry Crazy Dave broke off and only threw one, in the game you couldn't do such a thing. You just plant it and it goes boom! Simple as that really but why did Crazy Dave do such an action, he's Crazy but no fool. Maybe a bit of a fool but a smart fool that defeats Zomboss who's probably the second smartest being alive.
Jason just had to figure out why Crazy Dave would break off a cherry and just use one, Jason figured out why very soon from observing the single cherrybomb. It was regrowing its other half, slowly but it was regrowing. Jason could quite easily farm the Cherrybombs and build up a large amount of explosives for emergencies and just throw cherrybomb after cherrybomb once he has enough to spam them without a care in the world, he's putting 'blowing up Zomboss house' on his to do list.
Things still didn't feel right, he hasn't seen a single zombie nor heard any commotion nearby for half the day now. He was able to plant the rest of his new plants, organize his new defenses and bury any zombie remains to use them as fertilizer. By now there would at least be a small amount of zombies but so far nothing. "I don't like this…."
He mumbled to himself, he didn't like how he could feel something was wrong and do nothing about it. Simply prepare for it to arrive and wether whatever the storm brought with it, Jason would head back inside after he finished with the usual morning chores. He decided to head to his backyard to get some more training in before heading in for the night.
Still not a single zombie was in sight, there was no attacks or waves of zombies that approached Jason lawn. He knew he should count his blessings but this just didn't feel right in the slightest, the zombies was planning something and he couldn't stop it. Nor even delay it, he doesn't even know where to begin or where even Zomboss has his base of operations at.
Another thing to be added on the 'to do list," even if he did find Zomboss base there wasn't anything he could do to destroy it. Zomboss will definitely have all sorts of defenses and zombies to protect it from harm. But it would be pretty fun to throw rolls of toliet paper all over Zomboss home to annoy him.
With no attacks during the day, nor even one attack at night causes Jason head to bed to get some rest. He planned on waking up early in the morning to prepare for any surprise attacks.
As Jason goes to lay day, he would feel the feeling of being watched. Without even opening his eyes he would pat the side of his bed, "you can lay with me you silly little bozos" Jason said aloud, no sooner did he say that a bunch of plants would crawl into the bed with him. The dog pile was getting bigger heavier as the number of plants grew, sooner or later they'll take over his bed and he'll need to get another one.
After a couple of hours of good sleep having no struggle whatsoever because he has no insomnia nor sleeping problems (-^-), he would wake up and do his usual morning routine. Brushing his teeth which his plants seemed to follow confusing the hell out of him as he assumed Sunflowers didn't have any and the toothbrush in peashooters and respecters mouths was just moving in circles in it's odd mouth defying all forms of logic.
The chompers though had teeth, they seemed to take delight in having white clean teeth and good breath. "Where did you all get the extra toothe brushes?" He couldn't help but ask the sunflower besides him, she responded by giving happy smile and wiggles her petals. She was just so happy to get attention from the one who planted her, seeing he wasn't going to get any sort of response he just shrugged his shoulders and went on about his day.
After checking the front lawn for any zombies but not seeing any Jason would train with his plants, he was seeing improvements from the plants. It was a bit surprising on how fast they adept and learn, the peashooters aim was getting a lot better than when they started yesterday while the sunflowers themselves was releasing sun at a faster pace than before.
After a decent two hour training session with a nice break in between it Jason would let his plants relax, as of now he was relaxing on his front lawn as his plants on the lawn was ready to protect him and their home. "Still nothing, what are you planning Zomboss?" Jason couldn't help mutter to himself, the waiting was getting to him now.
So much so that he was considering a risky option, a choice that's been in his head for awhile now. It was a high risk high reward type choice, he could leave the safety of his home and lawn and go explore the neighborhood. He knew doing such a thing was very risky but he also can't stay in the safety of his home forever, he's running out of food and water. While sink water was always a option but that shit don't hit compared to bottled water.
Additionally he needs to see the state of the neighborhood, he wants to know what happened to everyone else if they was eaten by the zombies or just fled. It would be an added boon if he found zomboss lair during his search, an extra added boom was if Jason can find more plants besides the normal ones he has.
He was kinda hoping crazy Dave in his crazy ness would've planted groups of plants around the neighborhood, Jason has a lot to lose if he doesn't play this right. Of course being his brain and life, but his mind was made up now and resolved himself. He wouldn't be foolish about this though, he had a plan!
"I have a plan Arthur" Jason said playfully to a peashooter who perks up as the peashooter father figure spoke to him. Jason plan was simple, he'll just bring a small group of plants with him as to explore the neighborhood together and bring his trusty shove with him. He's going to leave the rest of the plants on the front lawn so they could defend the house while he was away.
He didn't plan on staying away for too long as he knew the longer he stood away from the safety of his home the more danger he will be in, he would gather a small team of five peashooters, five repeaters, three sunflowers, two ice peas, three chompers and two wall nuts. Once he was set Jason would head out on the side walk and just go left.
He was surprised to see that the wallnuts can in fact move, it was comical really. Obviously Wallnuts don't have roots therefore they cannot move using roots like how other plants can, instead they can just hop. That's right the wallnuts hop, which was an amusing sight to see them move. He thought they would just roll but nope the wallnuts hop for their choice of movement.
For around thirty minutes Jason and his group of plants was just exploring the neighborhood and walking along the sidewalk, it unnerved how there wasn't a single person in sight nor any signs of a scuffle of any sort.
All the cars he passed by was parked orderly with no cars left opened or crashed, it was weird situation to be in for him. The best part to this was that he at least had company following him along the way. Jason plants was looking around at everything around them with wonder and excitement in n their eyes, this was there first time experience leaving their owner lawn and home.
To see a bunch of other buildings and strange objects was a sight to behold for the plants, they could wait to tell the rest about what they saw when they finally head back home.
It didn't take long for Jason to find what he was looking for, a grocery store was in sight. With the goal in sight he and his plants would enter the grocery store and proceed to check to see if there was any zombies lurking around.
Never could be too careful after all involving ones safety, once the coast was clear Jason and the plants proceed to 'liberate' the grocery store of their food. Jason would help his plants filled up as many shopping carts as they can with food items, of course snacks included.
Immediately after they would make the trip to head back home, after all of they got caught by zombies then they would be forced to ditch the shopping carts and food if the zombies was too much considering the shopping carts may slow them down.
Jason woudl glance up at the sky as he observed the darkening clouds, another reason to head home soon as well. While they didn't explore that far they did at least find a grocery store to restock the house on food.
While heading home with all the loot Jason had to dissuade a Chomper from eating a frozen hot pocket, the plant of course didn't know any better that you shouldn't eat frozen things.
When Jason and the group of plants returned back home to a lawn unbothered by any zombies, they would help their owner start putting away groceries with his supervision.
Though while they was doing this….a large group of zombies was starting to March down the road being led by a flag zombie with a bucket on his head, in the far back of the zombie wave was a giant zombie holding a telephone pole in one hand. Each step it made would create small but noticeable vibrations on the floor.

Sorry for taking so long and for any mistakes on my part, was finishing this late at night.
I got started on this chapter early but halfway/near the end is when the Elden ring DLC dropped and I started grinding.
Boy I experienced pain, suffering, torment. Lost all 99 of my runes lol, I should've used Morgott great rune but stupidly kept using Godrick at my high level.
Hope you all have a good night and stay safe please!
