Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 925: Cohesion

Molc felt the hair on the back of his neck stand on its end as the undead instantly directed his attention to the precise location he was at, swiftly throwing the bolt right back at him, forcing the talented crossbowman to throw himself away to evade it.

But although he failed to land a hit, he was successful in thwarting the undead's plan, and in the next instant, the dust was cleared by a wind spell, and the livings surrounded him, Merno casting a steam of fire at him.

The cohesion of the livings was certainly far better than it had been during the fight of Millipolo, the spellcasters and close fighters were working together seamlessly, the elemental champions acted as spellcasters whilst maintaining their distances, but were ready to swoop in to replace as close combatants if there was a need, essentially preventing Loimos from getting through their line and getting to the purely ranged fighters like Merno and Molc.

But although their teamwork and fighting skills had indeed improved tremendously, it did not take long for Loimos to adapt, he had already fought them once after all, so grasping the essence of their upgraded battle styles was even simpler than normal, not to mention that big players like Helena and Milo were not here this time…

Weaving through the spells, and simply rushing right through flames summoned by Alosfit, Loimos struck the shield wielded by the talented shieldbearer, Menhirel winced as she was pushed back, her feet leaving marks in the ground as even with perfect posture, she was unable to stand her ground against the undead.

The stone shield that she wielded was immediately scarred with a crack, before Loimos could strike again however, he had to move backward to evade projectiles of holy life casted by Marl, it was important for the undead to remember that all of their strikes were currently imbued with a small amount of gold, he had to pick and choose carefully which attack he had to be willing to endure.

Rushing through that curtain of flames allowed him to get a direct hit on Menhirel, the next time he struck, even if she was able to somewhat deflect instead of block, her shield would shatter, and even if not dead or wounded, she would be useless against him.

He side stepped another bolt fired by Molc, and blocked a sword swing from Hoffnu, the talented swordswoman noticed that the undead went to block her wrist instead of her sword, as the weapon was a far greater conduit for gold than just her body.

Despite the occasion that present itself, Loimos did not focus on the swordswoman, and instead suddenly changed direction toward the champion of sword, ducking underneath her attack as she used magic to expand the reach of her blades, but only for a wall of earth to rise right in front of his face, and also right behind him, work of the champion of earth and Merno working in tandem.

Forven and Alosfit appeared from the two sides that lead out of this hallway of earth, casting raging winds and a blazing inferno at once, the two spells meeting in the middle was certain to have most destructive consequences, but just as they cast their respective spells, Loimos extended his hands toward them both, revealing condensed drops of black blood, which he pinched, launching them right at the two of them.

Alosfit managed to evade at the last possible second, but Forven was struck, his liver pierced right there and then by the foul coalescence of rotten blood, causing him to lose direct control of his spell, allowing Loimos to swiftly dispel it, only enduring the inferno as a result.

The champion of wind, felt the acidic properties of the drop ravage him, even though the attack pierced through him and did not directly dissolve within, the pain was atrocious, his insides feeling like they were on fire.

The skeleton bursted out of the flames, his skull and attire bearing marks of scorching.

Before he could reach the vulnerable champion of wind however, snow began to rapidly fall from above, putting holes in the ground where it landed, Neige landed besides Forven and casted some healing magic upon him whilst Hoffnu and Menhirel closed in on the undead, both attacking at the same time.

Loimos had to focus on dodging for a few moments, as the casters casted spells in quick succession to prevent him from counter attacking, he moved with the most graceful footwork, basically, moving sharply from one direction to the other.

"Someone destroy the ground! He is drawing a rune with his feet!" from above, Defoim'nocle realised what he was doing, his plan was discovered, but that did not mean that an occasion was not gained, for a split moment, they all considered going for it and doing something to break the rune, and in that moment, the density of spells and attacks being directed toward him lessened enough, for Loimos to stop and open his jaw.

Howling once again, only that this time, it was meant to be an attack, the scream washed over all of the livings, making them only hear a loud whistling noise, throwing them off as the undead charged forward and tackled right into Menhirel's shield, shattering it into pieces, grabbing a sharp shard of stone, he kicked the shieldbearer away, and turned his attention to Hoffnu instead.

To her credit, the swordswoman was not caught off-guard completely, poising herself and already swinging at him, lowering himself down, the skeleton evaded the strike and continued his movement spun around to step right into the sword, pinning it down.

Bringing the shard of stone down at her, Hoffnu once again demonstrated her capabilities in combat as she managed to raise a defence despite it all, her forearm took the brunt of the damage, the shard shattering to pieces once her arm was pinned against her body and the undead continued to press down.

That was not quite enough to put the girl out of combat, as her sword arm was still intact, but not having much more time, Loimos had to settle down on a quick attack, striking her in the face with the back of his fist, sending a teeth flying out as the girl was thrown to the ground.

Then Loimos was forced to stop his assault as the spells began to rain down upon him.

In particular, a cluster of crystal sprouted from the ground behind his back, some of it managing to get lodged into his arm, the disturbance to his movements just enough for him to be struck head-on by a blast of wind, which nearly threw him right into a snowy spell.

Stopping his momentum by clawing at the ground, Loimos was already under another assault.
