Chapter 919: The Rotten Truth
"Which is?" Milo felt like he had an inkling to what it might be considered the direction of the conversation, but asked for confirmation from the seer first.
"He plans to have the Pale Lady descend… The exact purpose of that? Who knows for sure, but if he is able to convince her to assist the undead empire in a direct manner, they might actually take over the whole world, including the realms and alike… The only places that would be safe from death, would be the places infested by equally awful things, the realms that are common to all worlds and are wider than all of our continents and oceans put together… Such as the Abyss or True Void…" Quideos Audit cracked his neck and formed a smile.
"That's his long-term goal though, the point of him being here, inside of the barrier within the Emerald Realm despite the dangers of such an action, and the point of him purposefully allowing you to fully awaken your powers… It is related for sure, but does not quite directly correlate to the Pale Lady just yet" the seer stretched his legs, the joints popping loudly.
"You heard from Thanatok about Sonnenträger, correct? About how spreading his name and developing your powers would allow him to pop back into existence once again? Well Loimos is doing exactly that"
"...Excuse me? Why in damnation would he help bring back Sonnenträger? Wouldn't it be more logical to just kill me on the spot at the first occasion and silence everyone who knows about him to prevent his return altogether?" asked Milo, the prophet just looking at him lazily.
Audit waved his arms and shrugged.
"Loimos is very well-informed, I suspect that he is able to do what I do to a certain extent, or perhaps that undead seer has gotten better… Who knows, the heart of the undead empire is out of reach for me anyways… But Loimos, he knows that Sonnenträger's return is inevitable, eventually, the first hero will reappear no matter what is done to stop him"
"He wants to control when and where Sonnenträger will reappear, unbeknownst to you guys, Loimos had already spread his name far and wide, now, what he needs is you to be fully awakened, and to die- I am not certain how he knows that this will work, but he seems rather confident that this will cause Sonnenträger to manifest right there and then"
"I don't get it"
Milo and Quideos looked at one another for several seconds in absolute silence.
"The golden energy wielded by Sonnenträger is the anathema to everything, it is made to somehow be the greatest weakness of everything that exists, the pure living was great threat to the undead because those destroyed by his devouring life would be gone forever no matter what, the first hero can do the exact same thing, to everything, and is more powerful than Thanatok… So naturally, Loimos does not want him to appear somewhere random, at a random time, he must be planning on taking him on immediately and thus, prevent Sonnenträger from inflicting any damage to the undead empire" explained Audit.
"...Can Sonnenträger win against Loimos in the first place?" asked Milo, considering that even the one with the best possible tools to defeat him had lost, he wasn't really that optimistic.
"I am no great fighter myself, but if I had to guess… I suppose it could go either way, you know, Sonnenträger isn't just a great hero, like Loimos, he is also an apostle to a colour, so honestly, it might come down to which of the two was picked by the better force, but who knows?"
Quideos looked up, seeing a small crack in the sky.
"Seems like you are waking up, Milo, do you best, and even if you head is filled nothing but burning wrath, maintain your rationale, fate is not predetermined, and the most unexpected of things somehow always end up occurring eventually, so do not give up easily, there is always a chance" Quideos stood up, suddenly seeming awfully clear-minded and resolute.
"Do not fret, if you were to fall, I will use everything that I have left to catch Loimos and Sonnenträger into a world of memories, preventing them from shattering the Emerald Realm in its entirety… Good luck"
Milo instantly woke up, tearing something that had been wrapped around him with a burst of gold, finding himself in what looked like wasteland- But there was no time to observe his surroundings, the gold was pointing him to somewhere, and without a shred of doubt, he turned into a blur, soaring through the air until he arrived near his house, finding it partly destroyed, but still standing.
His blood boiled.
"Helena!"
His wife was barely alive, one arm missing, her guts and ribs exposed to the outside, she had not died yet solely because she had deployed her zone at a critical moment to defend against the enemy, but even a refined zone from such a talented mage, focused solely on defence, was shattered in just a second.
With speed he did not believe himself to possess, he flashed forth, and tackled Loimos, the two of them slamming into the ground with a blast a distance away, they could have travelled far, but the skeleton had been quick to redirect them both toward the ground, swiftly casting a spell right up against Milo's chest, some sort of composite spells that create bone shrapnel alongside a condensed energy blast.
It tore apart the living's chest, and exposed the front of his rib cage, but he did not care for even a second, even as the aspect of Agony was channelled through him, he ignored the pain and brought his punch toward Loimos's skull, his fists going right through the ground as the undead dodged at the last second, but the blast of gold caused an explosion below them, sending them both flying.
Whilst in mid-air, Loimos somehow stopped moving as though standing on solid ground, and wielding his war scythe with both hands, manifested the apocalyptic aspect of war through it, around the blade, a significantly larger version of it manifested, created from everything the undead could pour into it at the moment, slashing right at the living, the air howled, but Milo did not fear, even without leverage, he striked back at the oncoming blade, pouring as much gold as he could into his attack.
Gold flooded the area, and the swing lost strength, but not all of it, Milo was still flung away nonetheless, but thanks to that, gold flowed into the war scythe, forcing Loimos to dispel it before calling back both of his scythes.
Sprouting two sets of wings, one set feathered, the other that of insects, he switched between the two whilst also finding solid ground to step upon whilst in the air, approaching in a most unpredictable way.
Milo only glared at the oncoming undead.
'Bring it on, Loimos!'
