Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 232: Church

"Holy crap that was nerve wracking, you do realise that one wrong question was all we needed to fail?" Two expressed as the two now found themselves within the walls of Millipolo, the small holy nation entirely enclosed upon itself.

Here the air itself felt bright somehow, infused with the holy, as though divinities had once walked the streets where mere mortals currently went about their days, the volume of priests, priestesses, monks and all of the likes was large.

Fully armoured paladings, holy knights and many others served as guards, it was no wonder that Millipolo was a safe place, when your run of the mill, neighbourhood guard was a fully-fledged paladin that could probably leap over buildings and find someone through walls.

"Had that guy asked about your faith as well, what would you have done?" she moved around in her robes, having forgotten how that thing felt and also because she had grown up since the last time she had worn it.

"I would have forced entry, this armour only inhabits a small part of me, I can act out brashly" Loimos graced her with an actual answer, and indeed, the paladin armour had been made specifically to controlled remotely by the skeleton, using the same trick as he had with Osworth, thus, his undeath was rather limited at the moment, instead mostly restricted to the capacities Unacunerra had imparted upon the suit, which were all of holy nature and rather foreign to Loimos.

But the rotten carcass was an excellent actor, he would make sure to avoid any sort of confrontation, only being here to inform Vwoldtnir, Deep Crawler of the current plans, his as well as his followers assistance would be instrumental, digging was sort of his forte and he could do so silently, quickly and without causing any sort of collapse with no support.

The Earthen Catastrophe was capable of it, but it was a bit more risky as he made use of mana, and it went without mentioning, as a gravelord, the grand ghoul was a menace to all that lived, his mere presence would simplify things just as any other gravelord's would.

To do that however, Loimos had to reach the Gruyere Plains, it was easier said than done, it was a wonder why Millipolo had decided to enclose that place alongside the rest of its country, nothing could be built, and there was nothing to harvest there, it was a dead zone that brought them nothing.

And to top it all off, the plains had been completely sealed off, fully surrounded by its own set of walls, countless churches built inside of the one separating the plains from the rest of Millipolo, all belonging to the church of Phanes, god of life.

In fact, it seemed like the followers of this deity had made the edge of Gruyere Plains there center of operations, an especially impressive structure built in the middle of the fortifications, paladins and priests were to found walking and patrolling all around, on the walls, and at its bottom, going on about their days.

"Seems like we won't be able to get in through here" Two sighed, already not the biggest fan of moving around with the apathetic undead, so having this trip extended was not to her liking, no matter how much One praised Loimos, it would not change the truth.

"We can ask" he signalled for her to get into her role.

Cracking her neck, she took the lead and approached the clearly important people, standing right in front of the largest church, the door to the inside were opened, sitting outside at a small table, a woman Two could clearly tell to be strong was dressed just like a priestess with only a few additions to her robes.

Mostly white with hints of green, with dark hair and wearing a golden necklace depicting some sort of plant with a face, radiating holy life, the archbishop was not paying much attention to her surroundings, reading a book written by Bethome Meleme.

Her entourage appeared otherwise more alert, two paladins of differing heights, or rather, a crusader and paladin.
Stay tuned with empire

One was a tall man that was big enough to provide substantial shade to the reading woman, just as tall as Loimos's paladin character, the other armoured figure seemed to be a woman, and unlike the crusader was wearing a suit of armour that clearly made her out to be from the church of Phanes.

Those three were not alone, they made from the left side of the table.

On the other side, an archbishop of another worship accompanied by one of his own paladins, this one was for certain a woman as she had taken her helm off, this whole congregation was doing its best to not pay attention to the man that formed the center of the group.

With white hair and a lot of oomph, he seemed to be telling a story.

Loimos knew absolutely no one present here, he might have heard of them before, but as far as physical descriptions went, he could not decipher anyone's identity.

"Quideos, you already told that story ten minutes ago, are you sure you are fine?" Archbishop Joala raised her head from the book with an eyebrow raised, she did not mind him as he had yet to go on any unhinged tangents, but his health was starting to be put in question.

He looked a bit dishevelled and kept looking at empty space, or brushing something off of his shoulders, Quideos insisted that everything was fine however.

"If you would excuse me, it seems we have visitors" she excused herself.

Two looked perfectly composed, and Loimos, he was like usual.

'Why is the archbishop walking toward us?! Give your work to someone else!' unfortunately, Joala had so little to do that anything that happened was for her to take care of.

"I am Joala, archbishop of Phanes and the head of the church here in Millipolo, do you have any business here?" she asked pleasantly.

"I am Imyre, priestess of the desert god, my friend simply wanted to know if it was possible to enter the Gruyere Plains" Two told the truth even if no one was around to verify the veracity of her claims, just in case, this included her name, unlike One, the other members of Alizé had actual names beside the numbers they went by with.

"Ah, another challenger?

I would not recommend, all of the others have returned blinded, no healers could give them back their sights, but yes, entry is technically allowed, you just need to walk in" Joala spent a few more minutes explaining why this was a terrible idea, that a so-called devil resided inside of here and that all attempts to purge the plains had resulted in blindness and waste of efforts.

Clearly, Vwoldtnir had been having some visitors, and he had not slayed any of them, instead robbing them of sight, probably none of them had gotten any sort of look at the gravelord, although from what Joala said, not many had actually gotten this treatment, the majority had simply found nothing at all and come out with the certainty that nothing was in there, especially recently.

"You hear that- And he's already going" Two noticed the undead walking into the church, not showing any reaction as holy life surrounded him, maintaining his unbothered attitude.

"Say, Imyre, why not join us whilst your friend is busy? Quideos Audit is babbling non-stop over there…"
