Chapter 1001: A New Look
The very instant that sudden burst of festering death force had reached him, Loimos had instantly known how, and most importantly, who it was that given up their life force to assist him, and honestly, even him, the pure undead, had not predicted for this to happen, it was about as low as it could get in terms of probability amongst his calculations, but it had indeed happen, and the proof was right in front of him.
Normally, when facing the two women who tended to be by his side the most, there would be One, the sun walking vampire girl with an obsession for all that is rotten and specifically Loimos himself, and the other would Maliah, The Death Dealer, a living working as an agent of death and amongst the most powerful members of the Empire despite being animated by life.
Now however, it was two undeads that were facing him.
"Listen here, Mister Bones… You better be very grateful that I gave up on having a glorious death by getting torn apart, cleaved into pieces, burnt alive or whatever to help you against the golden fucker!"
"I always knew that you were a competitor, Maliah" the vampiress basically hissed at the assassin.
"Hey, I didn't do it for that reason"
"What reason then?"
"I knew it… Damnit! I am totally the worst choice in between us two!" One rubbed the bridge of her nose, the vampire used to be the only one brazen enough to cling to Loimos like a virulent parasite that embedded itself in the flesh of it victim, so even though she was not much compared to a lot of other female undeads, she at least was the only one competing.
Now, she had to compete with Maliah, and One had no disillusion, it was obvious that the assassin was better than her in every way, the only thing she had over before was that The Death Dealer had been a living…
Loimos was unbothered by One's small mental breakdown, and instead inspected Maliah, her death was a large event, a very big deal, in fact.
She had always been overwhelmingly powerful, having been born with many rare attributes that somehow all fitted together nicely, Maliah was the greatest example of a freak of nature around.
An incredible amount of inner energies that was constantly growing and refining itself, all of which was incapable of exiting her body, that would have normally killed her quickly, but thanks to a special constitution, it instead allowed to constantly grow more powerful as the energy nourished her into a more powerful being every passing second, not to mention her innate ability that allowed her to store countless weapons and bring them out.
The sheer amount of power she possessed turned the usually overlooked system stats that everyone had into a truly viable option to increase in strength, as the value of even a single point was through the roof with Maliah.
She had already been a powerhouse, and now, she had turned into an undead, every good aspect would be further exacerbated.
Furthermore, it seemed like her new undead body had caused her inner energies to go even more wild than before, from the looks of it, the inner energies were purposefully trying to push the limits of the assassin's body, so when her entire being was improved, the energies quickly followed suit, increasing in power and turning into dead variants of themselves, further improving the constant power increase.
Meaning that Maliah would grow stronger faster now.
But what was truly remarkable, was how everything had reacted due to this, having every aspect of oneself be dead, such as having a dead soul, a dead mind and such was a trait of the pure undead, normally, undeads did not possess any, or only one and a few at best.
After all, such concepts were normally unrelated to life or death, so having a 'living' or 'dead' version sounded like something that should be impossible.
Uniquely however, due to Maliah being who she was, the assassin actually possessed a lot of traits that were the dead variant, the energies had been the first to make the change in an attempt to push the limits, but because there were energies linked to the soul, mind or spirit for example, those quickly followed suit under the influence of their respective energy.
Now, Maliah wasn't anywhere close to being a pure undead like Loimos was, firstly because she still had the exact same personality as when she was alive, and also because being the pure undead was not just a set of parameters anyways.
"And look at me! Look how they massacred my cute little face!" as far as appearance went, the assassin had not changed that much, becoming a rather fresh-looking zombie, only that for some reason, the transformation into an undead had caused the woman to lose her lower jaw.
Giving her a most horrific appearance, especially since every time she got a little rowdy, blood would spurt out from there, apart from these, she had just turned very pale and her eyes had become mostly glassy, but once again, they would spark with intensity whenever her emotions rose a little bit.
Making for quite the bizarre spectacle.
She could speak normally thanks to having access to pale and death tongue, but speaking was not what was worrying her.
"How am I supposed to bite and rip out throats like this? I just had one of my killing methods stolen from me!"
"Is it that important?" asked One with a raised eyebrow.
"It is of utmost importance, I love to alternate how I murder people, but one way to do that is gone, I can swing my upper teeth, sure, but that's not the same thing!" overall, Maliah did not seem that bothered by the fact that she had died in a way that was completely opposite to what she had hoped.
Loimos extend one hand upward, and in the blink of an eye, rot manifested and converged together, turning in metallic lower jaw with steel teeth attached, not only was it a beautiful creation made using the skeleton's proficiency in many areas, thus making it an item of incredible value and power, but he also adapted it to Maliah.
She typically used her own hair and blood to forge her weapons so that she could imbue them with her inner energies, Loimos had decayed just things ages ago, so he was able to integrate them as well.
With one swift movement, he interlocked it onto the assassin, and it immediately fitted perfectly, moving with the same precision and simplicity as a regular one.
"I wish I could miss a body part" One whispered to herself.
Maliah rubbed her nape.
"Huh… Thanks"
"You are welcome"
