Chapter 5: Chapter 5
The setting sun cast long shadows across the horizon as Perman hurried home, but as Perman opened the window, a wave of quiet washed over him. Copy Robot/Perfect Copy Robot wasn't there.
"Copy Robot?" Perman called out, his voice echoing slightly in the empty room. No answer.
Disappointed, Perman decided to wait. He flopped down on his bed, pulling out his comic book. Maybe Copy Robot was just running late. But as the minutes ticked by, a strange feeling settled over him. Where could Copy Robot be?
Perman tried to distract himself, reading his comic, building a miniature spaceship out of blocks. But worry kept creeping in. What if something had happened to Copy Robot?
The room grew darker as the sun dipped below the horizon.
Perman's stomach rumbled, reminding him he hadn't eaten lunch. He tried to convince himself that Copy Robot would be home soon. But despite his best efforts, tiredness began to tug at him. His eyelids grew heavy, and the comic book slipped from his grasp. Soon, he was drifting off to sleep.
The aroma of teriyaki chicken wafted through the air, a tantalizing invitation to dinner. Mitsuo's mom, a gentle smile gracing her lips, pushed open his bedroom door. Instead of her son, she found an unexpected sight: Perman sprawled across Mitsuo's bed, snoring softly.
"Perman!" she exclaimed, her voice a mixture of surprise and concern.
Perman stirred, blinking his eyes, use achanak yaad aaya ki vo abhi perman hai."Oh, Mitsuo's mom," he mumbled, scrambling to sit up. "I… I was waiting for Mitsuo. I must have fallen asleep."
Mitsuo's mom raised an eyebrow. "Sleeping in someone's room? Perman, even for a superhero, that's not very polite."
Perman hung his head, sheepishly. "I apologize, Mrs. Suwa. I didn't mean to. Did Mitsuo tell you where he went?"
"Yes," she replied. "He said he was going to the library."
Perman's eyes widened. "The library! I see."
There was only one library in their neighborhood. With a newfound sense of urgency, Perman thanked his mom and hurried out the door. He had a feeling Copy Robot might still be there.
As he approached the library, the familiar scent of old paper and hushed whispers filled the air. He pushed open the heavy wooden doors and his eyes scanned the rows of towering bookshelves. And there he was – Copy Robot, curled up in a small reading nook, a mountain of books surrounding it.
Both of them came out of the library, Perman putting Copy Robot on his back and taking to the air. "I never thought that 'Perfect Copy Robot' can also make such a silly mistake," Perman said, a hint of amusement in his voice.
"Yes, please forgive me. But it is not my fault since I'm YOUR copy robot," Copy Robot retorted, his voice slightly muffled against Perman's back.
"By the way, you didn't need to work so hard on your first day," Perman commented.
"Yes yes. By the way... I have covered 20% of our syllabus, if you want you can see it by sharing the memory." Perman was genuinely surprised. Copy Robot completed 20% of the syllabus in one day? That was impressive!
Perman shared his memory with his copy robot Copy Robot and was astonished. The things which Perman could not remember even after reading them repeatedly, his copy robot now recalled perfectly.
"How is it?" Copy Robot inquired.
"You... are amazing," Perman exclaimed, still slightly bewildered.
"Yes yes I know. But I think I took too much time, anyway you had already read many of those things so it didn't take much time to memorize. Ok listen, go to home as Mitsuo and give me Perman set, we both can't eat dinner anyway." Copy Robot declared.
"And what will you do by becoming Perman? We both will go home and since you are still Mitsuo, you tell mom that you have invited Perman. You have worked so hard today, if you don't eat then I will not eat either," Perman said, a touch of concern in his voice.
Copy Robot chuckled. "Don't worry, I'll manage. Besides, I need to test my limits. And you know, sometimes a little bit of hunger can be a great motivator."
Perman, though still slightly hesitant, couldn't help but grin. His perfect copy robot was definitely going to be an interesting addition to his life.
